A psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. | 1 In finem. Psalmus David. |
O God, you are my God-- for you I long! For you my body yearns; for you my soul thirsts, Like a land parched, lifeless, and without water. | 2 Exaudi, Deus, orationem meam cum deprecor ; a timore inimici eripe animam meam. |
So I look to you in the sanctuary to see your power and glory. | 3 Protexisti me a conventu malignantium, a multitudine operantium iniquitatem. |
For your love is better than life; my lips offer you worship! | 4 Quia exacuerunt ut gladium linguas suas ; intenderunt arcum rem amaram, |
I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands, calling on your name. | 5 ut sagittent in occultis immaculatum. |
My soul shall savor the rich banquet of praise, with joyous lips my mouth shall honor you! | 6 Subito sagittabunt eum, et non timebunt ; firmaverunt sibi sermonem nequam. Narraverunt ut absconderent laqueos ; dixerunt : Quis videbit eos ? |
When I think of you upon my bed, through the night watches I will recall | 7 Scrutati sunt iniquitates ; defecerunt scrutantes scrutinio. Accedet homo ad cor altum, |
That you indeed are my help, and in the shadow of your wings I shout for joy. | 8 et exaltabitur Deus. Sagittæ parvulorum factæ sunt plagæ eorum, |
My soul clings fast to you; your right hand upholds me. | 9 et infirmatæ sunt contra eos linguæ eorum. Conturbati sunt omnes qui videbant eos, |
But those who seek my life will come to ruin; they shall go down to the depths of the earth! | 10 et timuit omnis homo. Et annuntiaverunt opera Dei, et facta ejus intellexerunt. |
They shall be handed over to the sword and become the prey of jackals! | 11 Lætabitur justus in Domino, et sperabit in eo, et laudabuntur omnes recti corde. |
But the king shall rejoice in God; all who swear by the Lord shall exult, for the mouths of liars will be shut! |
