NEW AMERICAN BIBLEVULGATA
1 For the leader. A maskil of the Korahites.1 In finem, pro iis qui commutabuntur. Filiis Core, ad intellectum. Canticum pro dilecto.
2 O God, we have heard with our own ears; our ancestors have told us The deeds you did in their days, with your own hand in days of old:2 Eructavit cor meum verbum bonum :
dico ego opera mea regi.
Lingua mea calamus scribæ
velociter scribentis.
3 You rooted out nations to plant them, crushed peoples to make room for them.3 Speciosus forma præ filiis hominum,
diffusa est gratia in labiis tuis :
propterea benedixit te Deus in æternum.
4 Not with their own swords did they conquer the land, nor did their own arms bring victory; It was your right hand, your own arm, the light of your face for you favored them.4 Accingere gladio tuo super femur tuum, potentissime.
5 You are my king and my God, who bestows victories on Jacob.5 Specie tua et pulchritudine tua
intende, prospere procede, et regna,
propter veritatem, et mansuetudinem, et justitiam ;
et deducet te mirabiliter dextera tua.
6 Through you we batter our foes; through your name, trample our adversaries.6 Sagittæ tuæ acutæ :
populi sub te cadent,
in corda inimicorum regis.
7 Not in my bow do I trust, nor does my sword bring me victory.7 Sedes tua, Deus, in sæculum sæculi ;
virga directionis virga regni tui.
8 You have brought us victory over our enemies, shamed those who hate us.8 Dilexisti justitiam, et odisti iniquitatem ;
propterea unxit te Deus, Deus tuus,
oleo lætitiæ, præ consortibus tuis.
9 In God we have boasted all the day long; your name we will praise forever. Selah9 Myrrha, et gutta, et casia a vestimentis tuis,
a domibus eburneis ; ex quibus delectaverunt te
10 But now you have rejected and disgraced us; you do not march out with our armies.10 filiæ regum in honore tuo.
Astitit regina a dextris tuis
in vestitu deaurato, circumdata varietate.
11 You make us retreat before the foe; those who hate us plunder us at will.11 Audi, filia, et vide, et inclina aurem tuam ;
et obliviscere populum tuum, et domum patris tui.
12 You hand us over like sheep to be slaughtered, scatter us among the nations.12 Et concupiscet rex decorem tuum,
quoniam ipse est Dominus Deus tuus, et adorabunt eum.
13 You sell your people for nothing; you make no profit from their sale.13 Et filiæ Tyri in muneribus vultum tuum deprecabuntur ;
omnes divites plebis.
14 You make us the reproach of our neighbors, the mockery and scorn of those around us.14 Omnis gloria ejus filiæ regis ab intus,
in fimbriis aureis,
15 You make us a byword among the nations; the peoples shake their heads at us.15 circumamicta varietatibus.
Adducentur regi virgines post eam ;
proximæ ejus afferentur tibi.
16 All day long my disgrace is before me; shame has covered my face16 Afferentur in lætitia et exsultatione ;
adducentur in templum regis.
17 At the sound of those who taunt and revile, at the sight of the spiteful enemy.17 Pro patribus tuis nati sunt tibi filii ;
constitues eos principes super omnem terram.
18 All this has come upon us, though we have not forgotten you, nor been disloyal to your covenant.18 Memores erunt nominis tui in omni generatione et generationem :
propterea populi confitebuntur tibi in æternum, et in sæculum sæculi.
19 Our hearts have not turned back, nor have our steps strayed from your path.
20 Yet you have left us crushed, desolate in a place of jackals; you have covered us with darkness.
21 If we had forgotten the name of our God, stretched out our hands to another god,
22 Would not God have discovered this, God who knows the secrets of the heart?
23 For you we are slain all the day long, considered only as sheep to be slaughtered.
24 Awake! Why do you sleep, O Lord? Rise up! Do not reject us forever!
25 Why do you hide your face; why forget our pain and misery?
26 We are bowed down to the ground; our bodies are pressed to the earth.
27 Rise up, help us! Redeem us as your love demands.
