NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
1 For the leader. A maskil of the Korahites.1 Magistro chori. Filiorum Core. Maskil.
2 O God, we have heard with our own ears; our ancestors have told us The deeds you did in their days, with your own hand in days of old:2 Deus, auribus nostris audivimus;
patres nostri annuntiaverunt nobis
opus, quod operatus es in diebus eorum, in diebus antiquis.
3 You rooted out nations to plant them, crushed peoples to make room for them.3 Tu manu tua gentes depulisti et plantasti illos,
afflixisti populos et dilatasti eos.
4 Not with their own swords did they conquer the land, nor did their own arms bring victory; It was your right hand, your own arm, the light of your face for you favored them.4 Nec enim in gladio suo possederunt terram,
et brachium eorum non salvavit eos;
sed dextera tua et brachium tuum
et illuminatio vultus tui,
quoniam complacuisti in eis.
5 You are my king and my God, who bestows victories on Jacob.5 Tu es rex meus et Deus meus,
qui mandas salutes Iacob.
6 Through you we batter our foes; through your name, trample our adversaries.6 In te inimicos nostros proiecimus,
et in nomine tuo conculcavimus insurgentes in nos. -
7 Not in my bow do I trust, nor does my sword bring me victory.7 Non enim in arcu meo sperabo,
et gladius meus non salvabit me.
8 You have brought us victory over our enemies, shamed those who hate us.8 Tu autem salvasti nos de affligentibus nos
et odientes nos confudisti.
9 In God we have boasted all the day long; your name we will praise forever. Selah9 In Deo gloriabimur tota die
et in nomine tuo confitebimur in saeculum.
10 But now you have rejected and disgraced us; you do not march out with our armies.10 Nunc autem reppulisti et confudisti nos
et non egredieris, Deus, cum virtutibus nostris.
11 You make us retreat before the foe; those who hate us plunder us at will.11 Convertisti nos retrorsum coram inimicis nostris;
et, qui oderunt nos, diripuerunt sibi.
12 You hand us over like sheep to be slaughtered, scatter us among the nations.12 Dedisti nos tamquam oves ad vescendum
et in gentibus dispersisti nos.
13 You sell your people for nothing; you make no profit from their sale.13 Vendidisti populum tuum sine lucro
nec ditior factus es in commutatione eorum.
14 You make us the reproach of our neighbors, the mockery and scorn of those around us.14 Posuisti nos opprobrium vicinis nostris,
subsannationem et derisum his, qui sunt in circuitu nostro.
15 You make us a byword among the nations; the peoples shake their heads at us.15 Posuisti nos similitudinem in gentibus,
commotionem capitis in populis.
16 All day long my disgrace is before me; shame has covered my face16 Tota die verecundia mea contra me est,
et confusio faciei meae cooperuit me
17 At the sound of those who taunt and revile, at the sight of the spiteful enemy.17 a voce exprobrantis et obloquentis,
a facie inimici et ultoris.
18 All this has come upon us, though we have not forgotten you, nor been disloyal to your covenant.18 Haec omnia venerunt super nos, nec obliti sumus te
et inique non egimus in testamentum tuum.
19 Our hearts have not turned back, nor have our steps strayed from your path.19 Et non recessit retro cor nostrum,
nec declinaverunt gressus nostri a via tua;
20 Yet you have left us crushed, desolate in a place of jackals; you have covered us with darkness.20 sed humiliasti nos in loco vulpium
et operuisti nos umbra mortis.
21 If we had forgotten the name of our God, stretched out our hands to another god,21 Si obliti fuerimus nomen Dei nostri
et si expanderimus manus nostras ad deum alienum,
22 Would not God have discovered this, God who knows the secrets of the heart?22 nonne Deus requiret ista?
Ipse enim novit abscondita cordis.
23 For you we are slain all the day long, considered only as sheep to be slaughtered.23 Quoniam propter te mortificamur tota die,
aestimati sumus sicut oves occisionis.
24 Awake! Why do you sleep, O Lord? Rise up! Do not reject us forever!24 Evigila, quare obdormis, Domine?
Exsurge et ne repellas in finem.
25 Why do you hide your face; why forget our pain and misery?25 Quare faciem tuam avertis,
oblivisceris inopiae nostrae et tribulationis nostrae?
26 We are bowed down to the ground; our bodies are pressed to the earth.26 Quoniam humiliata est in pulvere anima nostra,
conglutinatus est in terra venter noster.
Exsurge, Domine, adiuva nos
et redime nos propter misericordiam tuam.
27 Rise up, help us! Redeem us as your love demands.
