NEW AMERICAN BIBLEKING JAMES BIBLE
For the leader. A psalm of David.1 Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;
O God, whom I praise, do not be silent, for wicked and treacherous mouths attack me. They speak against me with lying tongues;2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
with hateful words they surround me, attacking me without cause.3 They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.
In return for my love they slander me, even though I prayed for them.4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.
They repay me evil for good, hatred for my love. My enemies say of me:5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.
"Find a lying witness, an accuser to stand by his right hand,6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
That he may be judged and found guilty, that his plea may be in vain.7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.
May his days be few; may another take his office.8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
May his children be fatherless, his wife, a widow.9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
May his children be vagrant beggars, driven from their hovels.10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
May the usurer snare all he owns, strangers plunder all he earns.11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.
May no one treat him kindly or pity his fatherless children.12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.
May his posterity be destroyed, his name cease in the next generation.13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
May the LORD remember his fathers' guilt; his mother's sin not be canceled.14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
May their guilt be always before the LORD, till their memory is banished from the earth,15 Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
For he did not remember to show kindness, but hounded the wretched poor and brought death to the brokenhearted.16 Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.
He loved cursing; may it come upon him; he hated blessing; may none come to him.17 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.
May cursing clothe him like a robe; may it enter his belly like water, seep into his bones like oil.18 As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.
May it be near as the clothes he wears, as the belt always around him."19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.
May the LORD bring all this upon my accusers, upon those who speak evil against me.20 Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul.
But you, LORD, my God, deal kindly with me for your name's sake; in your great mercy rescue me.21 But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name's sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.
For I am sorely in need; my heart is pierced within me.22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.
Like a lengthening shadow I near my end, all but swept away like the locust.23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.
My knees totter from fasting; my flesh has wasted away.24 My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness.
I have become a mockery to them; when they see me, they shake their heads.25 I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.
Help me, LORD, my God; save me in your kindness.26 Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy:
Make them know this is your hand, that you, LORD, have acted.27 That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it.
Though they curse, may you bless; shame my foes, that your servant may rejoice.28 Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.
Clothe my accusers with disgrace; make them wear shame like a mantle.29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.
I will give fervent thanks to the LORD; before all I will praise my God.30 I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.
For God stands at the right hand of the poor to defend them against unjust accusers.31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.
