1 For the leader. A psalm of David.	1 'Al maestro del coro. Di Davide. Salmo.' Dio della mia lode, non tacere,
2 O God, whom I praise, do not be silent, for wicked and treacherous mouths attack me. They speak against me with lying tongues;	2 poiché contro di me si sono aperte la bocca dell'empio e dell'uomo di frode; parlano di me con lingua di menzogna.
3 with hateful words they surround me, attacking me without cause.	3 Mi investono con parole di odio, mi combattono senza motivo.
4 In return for my love they slander me, even though I prayed for them.	4 In cambio del mio amore mi muovono accuse, mentre io sono in preghiera.
5 They repay me evil for good, hatred for my love. My enemies say of me:	5 Mi rendono male per bene e odio in cambio di amore.
6 "Find a lying witness, an accuser to stand by his right hand,	6 Suscita un empio contro di lui e un accusatore stia alla sua destra.
7 That he may be judged and found guilty, that his plea may be in vain.	7 Citato in giudizio, risulti colpevole e il suo appello si risolva in condanna.
8 May his days be few; may another take his office.	8 Pochi siano i suoi giorni e il suo posto l'occupi un altro.
9 May his children be fatherless, his wife, a widow.	9 I suoi figli rimangano orfani e vedova sua moglie.
10 May his children be vagrant beggars, driven from their hovels.	10 Vadano raminghi i suoi figli, mendicando, siano espulsi dalle loro case in rovina.
11 May the usurer snare all he owns, strangers plunder all he earns.	11 L'usuraio divori tutti i suoi averi e gli estranei faccian preda del suo lavoro.
12 May no one treat him kindly or pity his fatherless children.	12 Nessuno gli usi misericordia, nessuno abbia pietà dei suoi orfani.
13 May his posterity be destroyed, his name cease in the next generation.	13 La sua discendenza sia votata allo sterminio, nella generazione che segue sia cancellato il suo nome.
14 May the LORD remember his fathers' guilt; his mother's sin not be canceled.	14 L'iniquità dei suoi padri sia ricordata al Signore, il peccato di sua madre non sia mai cancellato.
15 May their guilt be always before the LORD, till their memory is banished from the earth,	15 Siano davanti al Signore sempre ed egli disperda dalla terra il loro ricordo.
16 For he did not remember to show kindness, but hounded the wretched poor and brought death to the brokenhearted.	16 Perché ha rifiutato di usare misericordia e ha perseguitato il misero e l'indigente, per far morire chi è affranto di cuore.
17 He loved cursing; may it come upon him; he hated blessing; may none come to him.	17 Ha amato la maledizione: ricada su di lui! Non ha voluto la benedizione: da lui si allontani!
18 May cursing clothe him like a robe; may it enter his belly like water, seep into his bones like oil.	18 Si è avvolto di maledizione come di un mantello: è penetrata come acqua nel suo intimo e come olio nelle sue ossa.
19 May it be near as the clothes he wears, as the belt always around him."	19 Sia per lui come vestito che lo avvolge, come cintura che sempre lo cinge.
20 May the LORD bring all this upon my accusers, upon those who speak evil against me.	20 Sia questa da parte del Signore la ricompensa per chi mi accusa, per chi dice male contro la mia vita.
21 But you, LORD, my God, deal kindly with me for your name's sake; in your great mercy rescue me.	21 Ma tu, Signore Dio, agisci con me secondo il tuo nome: salvami, perché buona è la tua grazia.
22 For I am sorely in need; my heart is pierced within me.	22 Io sono povero e infelice e il mio cuore è ferito nell'intimo.
23 Like a lengthening shadow I near my end, all but swept away like the locust.	23 Scompaio come l'ombra che declina, sono sbattuto come una locusta.
24 My knees totter from fasting; my flesh has wasted away.	24 Le mie ginocchia vacillano per il digiuno, il mio corpo è scarno e deperisce.
25 I have become a mockery to them; when they see me, they shake their heads.	25 Sono diventato loro oggetto di scherno, quando mi vedono scuotono il capo.
26 Help me, LORD, my God; save me in your kindness.	26 Aiutami, Signore mio Dio, salvami per il tuo amore.
27 Make them know this is your hand, that you, LORD, have acted.	27 Sappiano che qui c'è la tua mano: tu, Signore, tu hai fatto questo.
28 Though they curse, may you bless; shame my foes, that your servant may rejoice.	28 Maledicano essi, ma tu benedicimi; insorgano quelli e arrossiscano, ma il tuo servo sia nella gioia.
29 Clothe my accusers with disgrace; make them wear shame like a mantle.	29 Sia coperto di infamia chi mi accusa e sia avvolto di vergogna come d'un mantello.
30 I will give fervent thanks to the LORD; before all I will praise my God.	30 Alta risuoni sulle mie labbra la lode del Signore, lo esalterò in una grande assemblea;
31 For God stands at the right hand of the poor to defend them against unjust accusers.	31 poiché si è messo alla destra del povero per salvare dai giudici la sua vita.
