1 Then the LORD addressed Job out of the storm and said:	1 El Señor respondió a Job desde la tempestad, diciendo:
2 Who is this that obscures divine plans with words of ignorance?	2 ¿Quién es ese que oscurece mi designio con palabras desprovistas de sentido?
3 Gird up your loins now, like a man; I will question you, and you tell me the answers!	3 ¡Ajústate el cinturón como un guerrero: yo te preguntaré, y tú me instruirás!
4 Where were you when I founded the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.	4 ¿Dónde estabas cuando yo fundaba la tierra? Indícalo, si eres capaz de entender.
5 Who determined its size; do you know? Who stretched out the measuring line for it?	5 Quién fijó sus medidas? ¿Lo sabes acaso? ¿Quién tendió sobre ella la cuerda para medir?
6 Into what were its pedestals sunk, and who laid the cornerstone,	6 ¿Sobre qué fueron hundidos sus pilares o quién asentó su piedra angular,
7 While the morning stars sang in chorus and all the sons of God shouted for joy?	7 mientras los astros de la mañana cantaban a coro y aclamaban todos los hijos de Dios?
8 And who shut within doors the sea, when it burst forth from the womb;	8 ¿Quién encerró con dos puertas al mar, cuando él salía a borbotones del seno materno,
9 When I made the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling bands?	9 cuando le puse una nube por vestido y por pañales, densos nubarrones?
10 When I set limits for it and fastened the bar of its door,	10 Yo tracé un límite alrededor de él, le puse cerrojos y puertas,
11 And said: Thus far shall you come but no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stilled!	11 y le dije: «Llegarás hasta aquí y no pasarás; aquí se quebrará la soberbia de tus olas».
12 Have you ever in your lifetime commanded the morning and shown the dawn its place	12 ¿Has mandado una vez en tu vida a la mañana, le has indicado su puesto a la aurora,
13 For taking hold of the ends of the earth, till the wicked are shaken from its surface?	13 para que tome a la tierra por los bordes y sean sacudidos de ella los malvados?
14 The earth is changed as is clay by the seal, and dyed as though it were a garment;	14 Ella adquiere forma como la arcilla bajo el sello y se tiñe lo mismo que un vestido:
15 But from the wicked the light is withheld, and the arm of pride is shattered.	15 entonces, a los malvados se los priva de su luz y se quiebra el brazo que se alzaba.
16 Have you entered into the sources of the sea, or walked about in the depths of the abyss?	16 ¿Has penetrado hasta las fuentes del mar y has caminado por el fondo del océano?
17 Have the gates of death been shown to you, or have you seen the gates of darkness?	17 ¿Se te han abierto las Puertas de la Muerte y has visto las Puertas de la Sombra?
18 Have you comprehended the breadth of the earth? Tell me, if you know all:	18 ¿Abarcas con tu inteligencia la extensión de la tierra? Indícalo, si es que sabes todo esto.
19 Which is the way to the dwelling place of light, and where is the abode of darkness,	19 ¿Por dónde se va adonde habita la luz y dónde está la morada de las tinieblas,
20 That you may take them to their boundaries and set them on their homeward paths?	20 para que puedas guiarla hasta su dominio y mostrarle el camino de su casa?
21 You know, because you were born before them, and the number of your years is great!	21 ¡Seguro que lo sabes, porque ya habías nacido y es muy grande el número de tus días!
22 Have you entered the storehouse of the snow, and seen the treasury of the hail	22 ¿Has penetrado hasta los depósitos de la nieve y has visto las reservas del granizo,
23 Which I have reserved for times of stress, for the days of war and of battle?	23 que yo guardo para los tiempos de angustia, para los días de guerra y de combate?
24 Which way to the parting of the winds, whence the east wind spreads over the earth?	24 ¿Por qué camino se expande la luz y el viento del este se propaga sobre la tierra?
25 Who has laid out a channel for the downpour and for the thunderstorm a path	25 ¿Quién ha abierto un cauce al aguacero y un camino al estampido de los truenos,
26 To bring rain to no man's land, the unpeopled wilderness;	26 para hacer llover sobre una tierra despoblada, sobre un desierto donde ningún hombre habita,
27 To enrich the waste and desolate ground till the desert blooms with verdure?	27 para regar los páramos desolados y hacer brotar una hierba en la estepa?
28 Has the rain a father; or who has begotten the drops of dew?	28 ¿Acaso la lluvia tiene un padre, y quién ha engendrado las gotas del rocío?
29 Out of whose womb comes the ice, and who gives the hoarfrost its birth in the skies,	29 ¿Del vientre de quién sale el hielo y quién da a luz la escarcha del cielo,
30 When the waters lie covered as though with stone that holds captive the surface of the deep?	30 cuando las aguas se endurecen como piedra y se congela la superficie del océano?
31 Have you fitted a curb to the Pleiades, or loosened the bonds of Orion?	31 ¿Anudas tú los lazos de las Pléyades o desatas las cuerdas del Orión?
32 Can you bring forth the Mazzaroth in their season, or guide the Bear with its train?	32 ¿Haces salir las Híadas a su tiempo y guías a la Osa y sus cachorros?
33 Do you know the ordinances of the heavens; can you put into effect their plan on the earth?	33 ¿Conoces las leyes de los cielos? ¿Regulas su dominio sobre la tierra?
34 Can you raise your voice among the clouds, or veil yourself in the waters of the storm?	34 ¿Puedes alzar tu voz hasta las nubes para que te cubra una masa de agua?
35 Can you send forth the lightnings on their way, or will they say to you, "Here we are"?	35 ¿Parten los relámpagos cuanto tú los envías y ellos te dicen: «Aquí estamos»?
36 Who puts wisdom in the heart, and gives the cock its understanding?	36 ¿Quién puso en el ibis la sabiduría o quién dio al gallo la inteligencia?
37 Who counts the clouds in his wisdom? Or who tilts the water jars of heaven	37 ¿Quién cuenta las nubes sabiamente y quién inclina los odres del cielo,
38 So that the dust of earth is fused into a mass and its clods made solid?	38 cuando el polvo se funde en una masa y los terrones se pegan entre sí?
39 Do you hunt the prey for the lioness or appease the hunger of her cubs,	39 ¿Cazas tú la presa para la leona y aplacas el hambre de sus cachorros,
40 While they crouch in their dens, or lie in wait in the thicket?	40 cuando se agazapan en sus guaridas y están al acecho en la espesura?
41 Who provides nourishment for the ravens when their young ones cry out to God, and they rove abroad without food?	41 ¿Quién prepara las provisiones para el cuervo, cuando sus pichones claman a Dios y andan errantes por falta de alimento?
