Job 11

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 And Zophar the Naamathite spoke out and said:	1 Então Sofar de Naama tomou a palavra nestes termos:
2 Should not the man of many words be answered, or must the garrulous man necessarily be right?	2 Ficará sem resposta o que fala muito, dar-se-á razão ao grande falador?
3 Shall your babblings keep men silent, and shall you deride and no one give rebuke?	3 Tua loquacidade fará calar a gente; zombarás sem que ninguém te repreenda?
4 Shall you say: "My teaching is pure, and I am clean in your sight"?	4 Dizes: Minha opinião é a verdadeira, sou puro a teus olhos.
5 But oh, that God would speak, and open his lips against you,	5 Oh! Se Deus pudesse falar, e abrir seus lábios para te responder,
6 And tell you that the secrets of wisdom are twice as effective: So you might learn that God will make you answer for your guilt.	6 revelar-te os mistérios da sabedoria que são ambíguos para o espírito, saberias então que Deus esquece uma parte de tua iniqüidade.
7 Can you penetrate the designs of God? Dare you vie with the perfection of the Almighty?	7 Pretendes sondar as profundezas divinas, atingir a perfeição do Todo-poderoso?
8 It is higher than the heavens; what can you do? It is deeper than the nether world; what can you know?	8 Ela é mais alta do que o céu: que farás? É mais profunda que os infernos: como a conhecerás?
9 It is longer than the earth in measure, and broader than the sea.	9 É mais longa que a terra, mais larga que o mar.
10 If he seize and imprison or call to judgment, who then can say him nay?	10 Se ele surge para aprisionar, se apela à justiça, quem o impedirá?
11 For he knows the worthlessness of men and sees iniquity; will he then ignore it?	11 Pois ele conhece os malfeitores, descobre a iniqüidade, presta atenção.
12 Will empty man then gain understanding, and the wild jackass be made docile?	12 Diante disso, uma cabeça oca poderia compreender, um asno tornar-se-ia razoável.
13 If you set your heart aright and stretch out your hands toward him,	13 Se voltares teu coração para Deus, e para ele estenderes os braços;
14 If you remove all iniquity from your conduct, and let not injustice dwell in your tent,	14 se afastares de tuas mãos o mal, e não abrigares a iniqüidade debaixo de tua tenda,
15 Surely then you may lift up your face in innocence; you may stand firm and unafraid.	15 então poderás erguer a fronte sem mancha; serás estável, sem mais nenhum temor.
16 For then you shall forget your misery, or recall it like waters that have ebbed away.	16 Esquecerás daí por diante as tuas penas: como águas que passaram, serão apenas uma lembrança;
17 Then your life shall be brighter than the noonday; its gloom shall become as the morning,	17 o futuro te será mais brilhante do que o meio-dia, as trevas se mudarão em aurora;
18 And you shall be secure, because there is hope; you shall look round you and lie down in safety,	18 terás confiança e ficarás cheio de esperança: olhando em volta de ti, dormirás tranqüilo;
19 and you shall take your rest with none to disturb. Many shall entreat your favor,	19 repousarás sem que ninguém te inquiete muitos acariciarão teu rosto,
20 but the wicked, looking on, shall be consumed with envy. Escape shall be cut off from them, they shall wait to expire.	20 mas os olhos dos maus serão consumidos; para eles, nenhum refúgio; não terão outra esperança senão em seu último suspiro.
