Job 11

1 And Zophar the Naamathite spoke out and said:	1 Allora Zofar il naamatita prese la parola e disse:
2 Should not the man of many words be answered, or must the garrulous man necessarily be right?	2 "Una tale quantità di parole resterà senza risposta? Dovrà forse aver ragione il ciarlatano?
3 Shall your babblings keep men silent, and shall you deride and no one give rebuke?	3 I tuoi sproloqui faranno tacere la gente, ti farai beffe senza che nessuno ti confonda?
4 Shall you say: "My teaching is pure, and I am clean in your sight"?	4 Tu hai detto: "La mia dottrina è pura e sono irreprensibile davanti a te!".
5 But oh, that God would speak, and open his lips against you,	5 Ah, se Dio volesse parlare e aprire le sue labbra contro di te!
6 And tell you that the secrets of wisdom are twice as effective: So you might learn that God will make you answer for your guilt.	6 Se ti rivelasse i segreti della sapienza, che sono ambigui a intendersi, allora tu sapresti che Dio perdona parte della tua colpa.
7 Can you penetrate the designs of God? Dare you vie with the perfection of the Almighty?	7 Pretendi forse di sondare l'intimo di Dio, e di penetrare la perfezione dell'Onnipotente?
8 It is higher than the heavens; what can you do? It is deeper than the nether world; what can you know?	8 Essa è più alta dei cieli: che farai? E' più profonda degli inferi: che ne puoi sapere?
9 It is longer than the earth in measure, and broader than the sea.	9 E' più estesa della terra nella sua dimensione e più vasta del mare.
10 If he seize and imprison or call to judgment, who then can say him nay?	10 Se si presenta, imprigiona (qualcuno) e lo cita in giudizio, chi glielo può impedire?
11 For he knows the worthlessness of men and sees iniquity; will he then ignore it?	11 Sì, egli conosce gli uomini falsi, vede l'iniquità e l'osserva:
12 Will empty man then gain understanding, and the wild jackass be made docile?	12 l'uomo stolto mette giudizio, quando il puledro di un onagro nasce uomo!
13 If you set your heart aright and stretch out your hands toward him,	13 Tu invece, se rivolgi il tuo cuore a Dio e stendi verso di lui le tue mani,
14 If you remove all iniquity from your conduct, and let not injustice dwell in your tent,	14 se allontani dalla tua mano l'iniquità, se non permetterai all'ingiustizia di abitare nella tua tenda,
15 Surely then you may lift up your face in innocence; you may stand firm and unafraid.	15 allora potrai levare la tua fronte senza macchia, starai saldo e non avrai timore.
16 For then you shall forget your misery, or recall it like waters that have ebbed away.	16 Allora dimenticherai le disgrazie, le ricorderai come acqua passata.
17 Then your life shall be brighter than the noonday; its gloom shall become as the morning,	17 La tua vita risorgerà più bella di un meriggio e le tenebre diventeranno come un mattino.
18 And you shall be secure, because there is hope; you shall look round you and lie down in safety,	18 Sarai sicuro, perché c'è speranza, e guardandoti intorno, riposerai tranquillo.
19 and you shall take your rest with none to disturb. Many shall entreat your favor,	19 Dormirai senza che nessuno ti disturbi, anzi molti cercheranno il tuo favore.
20 but the wicked, looking on, shall be consumed with envy. Escape shall be cut off from them, they shall wait to expire.	20 Invece gli occhi dei malvagi si consumano, ogni scampo verrà loro a mancare; la loro speranza è l'ultimo respiro".
