1 And Zophar the Naamathite spoke out and said:	1 E SOFAR Naamatita rispose e disse:
2 Should not the man of many words be answered, or must the garrulous man necessarily be right?	2 Non risponderebbesi egli ad un uomo di tante parole? Ed un uomo loquace sarebbe egli per ciò reputato giusto?
3 Shall your babblings keep men silent, and shall you deride and no one give rebuke?	3 Faranno le tue ciancie tacer gli uomini? Ti farai tu beffe, senza che alcuno ti faccia vergogna?
4 Shall you say: "My teaching is pure, and I am clean in your sight"?	4 Or tu hai detto: La mia maniera di vita è pura, Ed io sono stato netto davanti agli occhi tuoi.
5 But oh, that God would speak, and open his lips against you,	5 Ma volesse pure Iddio parlare, Ed aprir le sue labbra teco;
6 And tell you that the secrets of wisdom are twice as effective: So you might learn that God will make you answer for your guilt.	6 E dichiararti i segreti della sapienza; Perciocchè sono doppi; E tu conosceresti che Iddio ti fa portar pena minore Che la tua iniquità non merita di ragione
7 Can you penetrate the designs of God? Dare you vie with the perfection of the Almighty?	7 Potresti tu trovar modo d’investigare Iddio? Potresti tu trovar l’Onnipotente in perfezione?
8 It is higher than the heavens; what can you do? It is deeper than the nether world; what can you know?	8 Queste cose sono le altezze de’ cieli, che ci faresti? Son più profonde che l’inferno, come le conosceresti?
9 It is longer than the earth in measure, and broader than the sea.	9 La lor distesa è più lunga che la terra, E la lor larghezza è più grande che il mare.
10 If he seize and imprison or call to judgment, who then can say him nay?	10 Se Iddio sovverte, ovvero s’egli serra, E raccoglie, chi ne lo storrà?
11 For he knows the worthlessness of men and sees iniquity; will he then ignore it?	11 Perciocchè egli conosce gli uomini vani; E veggendo l’iniquità, non vi porrebbe egli mente?
12 Will empty man then gain understanding, and the wild jackass be made docile?	12 Ma l’uomo è scemo di senno, e temerario di cuore; E nasce simile a un puledro di un asino salvatico
13 If you set your heart aright and stretch out your hands toward him,	13 Se tu addirizzi il cuor tuo, E spieghi le palme delle tue mani a lui;
14 If you remove all iniquity from your conduct, and let not injustice dwell in your tent,	14 Se vi è iniquità nella tua mano, e tu l’allontani da te, E non lasci dimorare alcuna perversità ne’ tuoi tabernacoli;
15 Surely then you may lift up your face in innocence; you may stand firm and unafraid.	15 Allora certamente tu alzerai la faccia netta di macchia, E sarai stabilito, e non avrai paura di nulla;
16 For then you shall forget your misery, or recall it like waters that have ebbed away.	16 Perciocchè tu dimenticherai gli affanni, E te ne ricorderai come d’acque trascorse;
17 Then your life shall be brighter than the noonday; its gloom shall become as the morning,	17 E ti si leverà un tempo più chiaro che il mezzodì; Tu risplenderai, tu sarai simile alla mattina;
18 And you shall be secure, because there is hope; you shall look round you and lie down in safety,	18 E sarai in sicurtà; perciocchè vi sarà che sperare; E pianterai il tuo padiglione, e giacerai sicuramente;
19 and you shall take your rest with none to disturb. Many shall entreat your favor,	19 E ti coricherai, e niuno ti spaventerà; E molti ti supplicheranno.
20 but the wicked, looking on, shall be consumed with envy. Escape shall be cut off from them, they shall wait to expire.	20 Ma gli occhi degli empi verranno meno, Ed ogni rifugio sarà perduto per loro; E la loro unica speranza sarà di render lo spirito
