1 The whole world spoke the same language, using the same words.	1 Or tutta la terra era di un labbro solo e di uguali parole.
2 While men were migrating in the east, they came upon a valley in the land of Shinar and settled there.	2 E avvenne, nel loro vagare dalla parte di oriente, che gli uomini trovarono una pianura nel paese di Sennaar, vi si stabilirono
3 They said to one another, "Come, let us mold bricks and harden them with fire." They used bricks for stone, and bitumen for mortar.	3 e si dissero l'un l'altro: "Orsù, facciamoci dei mattoni, e cuociamoli al fuoco". Il mattone servì loro invece della pietra e il bitume invece della malta.
4 Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky, and so make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered all over the earth."	4 Poi essi dissero: "Orsù, costruiamoci una città con una torre, la cui cima sia nei cieli, e facciamoci un nome, per non esser dispersi sulla superficie di tutta la terra".
5 LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men had built.	5 Ma il Signore discese per vedere la città con la torre che stavano costruendo i figli dell'uomo.
6 Then the LORD said: "If now, while they are one people, all speaking the same language, they have started to do this, nothing will later stop them from doing whatever they presume to do.	6 E il Signore disse: "Ecco ch'essi sono un sol popolo e un labbro solo è per tutti loro; questo è il loro inizio nelle imprese; ormai tutto ciò che hanno meditato di fare non sarà loro impossibile.
7 Let us then go down and there confuse their language, so that one will not understand what another says."	7 Orsù, discendiamo e confondiamo laggiù la loro lingua, cosicché essi non comprendano più la lingua l'uno dell'altro".
8 Thus the LORD scattered them from there all over the earth, and they stopped building the city.	8 Il Signore li disperse di là sulla superficie di tutta la terra ed essi cessarono di costruire la città.
9 That is why it was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the speech of all the world. It was from that place that he scattered them all over the earth.	9 Per questo il suo nome fu detto Babele, perché colà il Signore mescolò il labbro di tutta la terra e di là il Signore li disperse sulla superficie di tutta la terra.
10 This is the record of the descendants of Shem. When Shem was one hundred years old, he became the father of Arpachshad, two years after the flood.	10 Questa è la discendenza di Sem: Sem aveva l'età di cent'anni quando generò Arpacsàd, due anni dopo il diluvio;

14 When Shelah was thirty years old, he became the father of Eber.	14 Selach visse trent'anni e generò Eber;
15 Shelah lived four hundred and three years after the birth of Eber, and he had other sons and daughters.	15 Selach, dopo aver generato Eber, visse quattrocentotré anni e generò figli e figlie.
16 When Eber was thirty-four years old, he became the father of Peleg.	16 Eber visse trentaquattro anni e generò Peleg;
17 Eber lived four hundred and thirty years after the birth of Peleg, and he had other sons and daughters.	17 Eber, dopo aver generato Peleg, visse quattrocentotrent'anni e generò figli e figlie.
18 When Peleg was thirty years old, he became the father of Reu.	18 Peleg visse trent'anni e generò Reu;
19 Peleg lived two hundred and nine years after the birth of Reu, and he had other sons and daughters.	19 Peleg, dopo aver generato Reu, visse duecentonove anni e generò figli e figlie.
20 When Reu was thirty-two years old, he became the father of Serug.	20 Reu visse trentadue anni e generò Serug;
21 Reu lived two hundred and seven years after the birth of Serug, and he had other sons and daughters.	21 Reu, dopo aver generato Serug, visse duecentosette anni e generò figli e figlie.
22 When Serug was thirty years old, he became the father of Nahor.	22 Serug visse trent'anni e generò Nacor;
23 Serug lived two hundred years after the birth of Nahor, and he had other sons and daughters.	23 Serug, dopo aver generato Nacor, visse duecento anni e generò figli e figlie.
24 When Nahor was twenty-nine years old, he became the father of Terah.	24 Nacor visse ventinove anni e generò Terach;
25 Nahor lived one hundred and nineteen years after the birth of Terah, and he had other sons and daughters.	25 Nacor, dopo aver generato Terach, visse centodiciannove anni e generò figli e figlie.
26 When Terah was seventy years old, he became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran.	26 Terach visse settanta anni e generò Abram, Nacor e Aran.
27 This is the record of the descendants of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran, and Haran became the father of Lot.	27 Questa è la genealogia di Terach: Terach generò Abram, Nacor e Aran. Aran generò Lot.

31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot, son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and brought them out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to go to the land of Canaan. 32 The lifetime of Terah was two hundred and five years; then Terah died in Haran.	32 Il tempo che Terach visse fu di duecentocinque anni, poi morì in Carran.
