1 The whole world spoke the same language, using the same words.	1 Or la terra avea una sola favella, e uno stesso linguaggio.
2 While men were migrating in the east, they came upon a valley in the land of Shinar and settled there.	2 E partendosi dall'oriente, gli uomini trovarono una campagna nella terra di Sennaar, e ivi abitarono.
3 They said to one another, "Come, let us mold bricks and harden them with fire." They used bricks for stone, and bitumen for mortar.	3 E dissero tra di loro: Andiamo, facciamo de' mattoni, e li cuociamo col fuoco. E si valsero di mattoni in cambio di sassi, e di bitume in vece di calcina:
4 Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky, and so make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered all over the earth."	4 E dissero: Venite, facciamoci una città, e una torre, di cui la cima arrivi fino al cielo; e illustriamo il nostro nome prima di andar divisi per tutta quanta la terra.
5 LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men had built.	5 Ma il Signore discese a vedere la città e la torre, che fabbricavano i figliuoli d'Adamo,
6 Then the LORD said: "If now, while they are one people, all speaking the same language, they have started to do this, nothing will later stop them from doing whatever they presume to do.	6 E disse: Ecco che questo è un sol popolo, ed hanno tutti la stessa lingua: ed han principiato a fare tal cosa, e non desisteranno da' loro disegni, fino a che gli abbian di fatto condotti a termine.
7 Let us then go down and there confuse their language, so that one will not understand what another says."	7 Venite adunque, scendiamo, e confondiamo il loro linguaggio, sicché l'uno non capisca il parlare dell'altro.
8 Thus the LORD scattered them from there all over the earth, and they stopped building the city.	8 E per tal modo gli disperse il Signore da quel luogo per tutti i paesi, e lasciarono da parte la fabbrica della città.
9 That is why it was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the speech of all the world. It was from that place that he scattered them all over the earth.	9 E quindi a questa fu dato il nome di Babel, perché ivi fu confuso il linguaggio di tutta la terra, e di là il Signore li disperse per tutte quante le regioni.
10 This is the record of the descendants of Shem. When Shem was one hundred years old, he became the father of Arpachshad, two years after the flood.	10 Questa è la genealogia di Sem: Sem avea cento anni, quando generò Arphaxad, due anni dopo il diluvio.
11 Shem lived five hundred years after the birth of Arpachshad, and he had other sons and daughters.	11 E visse Sem, dopo aver generato Arphaxad, cinquecento anni: e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
12 When Arpachshad was thirty-five years old, he became the father of Shelah.	12 Arphaxad poi visse trentacinque anni, e generò Sale.
13 Arpachshad lived four hundred and three years after the birth of Shelah, and he had other sons and daughters.	13 E visse Arphaxad, dopo aver generato Sale, trecento tre anni: e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
14 When Shelah was thirty years old, he became the father of Eber.	14 Sale poi visse trent'anni, e generò Heber.
15 Shelah lived four hundred and three years after the birth of Eber, and he had other sons and daughters.	15 E visse Sale, dopo aver generato Heber, trecento tre anni: e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
16 When Eber was thirty-four years old, he became the father of Peleg.	16 E visse Heber trenta quattro anni, e generò Phaleg.
17 Eber lived four hundred and thirty years after the birth of Peleg, and he had other sons and daughters.	17 E visse Heber, dopo aver generato Phaleg, quattrocento trent'anni, e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
18 When Peleg was thirty years old, he became the father of Reu.	18 E visse Phaleg trent'anni, e generò Reu.
19 Peleg lived two hundred and nine years after the birth of Reu, and he had other sons and daughters.	19 E visse Phaleg, dopo aver generato Reu, dugento nove anni: e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
20 When Reu was thirty-two years old, he became the father of Serug.	20 E visse Reu trentadue anni, e generò Sarug.
21 Reu lived two hundred and seven years after the birth of Serug, and he had other sons and daughters.	21 E visse Reu, dopo aver generato Sarug, dugento sette anni: e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
22 When Serug was thirty years old, he became the father of Nahor.	22 E visse Sarug trent'anni, e generò Nachor.
23 Serug lived two hundred years after the birth of Nahor, and he had other sons and daughters.	23 E visse Sarug, dopo aver generato Nachor, dugento anni: e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
24 When Nahor was twenty-nine years old, he became the father of Terah.	24 E visse Nachor ventinove anni, e generò Thare.
25 Nahor lived one hundred and nineteen years after the birth of Terah, and he had other sons and daughters.	25 E visse Nachor, dopo aver generato Thare, cento diciannove anni: e generò figliuoli e figliuole.
26 When Terah was seventy years old, he became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran.	26 E visse Thare settant'anni, e generò Abram, e Nachor, e Aran.
27 This is the record of the descendants of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran, and Haran became the father of Lot.	27 E questa è la genealogia di Thare: Thare generò Abram, Nachor, e Aran. Aran poi generò Lot.
28 Haran died before his father Terah, in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans.	28 E morì Aran prima di Thare suo padre nella terra, dov'era nato, in Ur de' Caldei.
29 Abram and Nahor took wives; the name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife was Milcah, daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and Iscah.	29 E Abram, e Nachor si ammogliarono: la moglie di Abram avea nome Sarai: e la moglie di Nachor ebbe nome Melcha, figliuola di Aran, padre di Melcha, e padre di Jesca.
30 Sarai was barren; she had no child.	30 Ma Sarai era sterile, e non avea figliuoli.
31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot, son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and brought them out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to go to the land of Canaan. But when they reached Haran, they settled there.	31 Thare adunque prese seco Abram suo figliuolo, e Lot figliuolo di Aran, (cioè) figliuolo di un suo figliuolo, e Sarai sua nuora, moglie di Abram suo figliuolo, e li condusse via da Ur de' Caldei per andar nella terra di Chanaan, e andarono fino ad Haran, ed ivi abitarono.
32 The lifetime of Terah was two hundred and five years; then Terah died in Haran.	32 E visse Thare dugento cinque anni, e morì in Haran.
