1 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:	1 Amikor megvirradt, a főpapok mindnyájan, és a nép vénei, döntést hoztak Jézus ellen, hogy halálra adják őt.
2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.	2 Megkötözték, elvezették és átadták Pilátus helytartónak.
3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,	3 Amikor Júdás, aki elárulta őt, látta, hogy elítélték, megbánta tettét, és visszavitte a harminc ezüstpénzt a főpapoknak és véneknek.

6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.	6 A főpapok pedig fölszedték az ezüstöket és azt mondták: »Nem szabad ezeket betenni a kincstárba, mert vér díja.«
7 And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.	7 Miután tanácsot tartottak, megvásárolták rajta a fazekas földjét az idegenek számára temetőnek.
8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.	8 Ezért hívják azt a földet Vérmezőnek mind a mai napig.
9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;	9 Akkor beteljesedett, amit Jeremiás próféta mondott: »Fogták a harminc ezüstöt – ez volt az ára, ennyire becsülték őt Izrael fiai –,

11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.	11 Jézus pedig ott állt a helytartó előtt. A helytartó megkérdezte tőle: »Te vagy a zsidók királya?« Jézus azt felelte: »Te mondod.«
12 And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.	12 Amikor a főpapok és vének vádolták, semmit sem válaszolt.
13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?	13 Akkor Pilátus azt mondta neki: »Nem hallod, mi mindent tanúsítanak ellened?«
14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.	14 Ő azonban nem válaszolt neki egyetlen szóval sem, a helytartó pedig nagyon csodálkozott ezen.
15 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.	15 Ünnep alkalmával szokásban volt, hogy a helytartó elbocsát a népnek egy foglyot, akit kérnek.
16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.	16 Volt akkor egy híres foglyuk, akit Barabásnak hívtak.
17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?	17 Pilátus összehívta őket és megkérdezte tőlük: »Kit akartok, hogy elbocsássak nektek, Barabást vagy Jézust, akit Krisztusnak mondanak?«
18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.	18 Tudta ugyanis, hogy irigységből adták őt a kezébe.
19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.	19 Miközben az ítélőszéken ült, a felesége üzenetet küldött neki: »Semmi dolgod se legyen azzal az igazzal, mert sokat szenvedtem ma álmomban miatta.«
20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.	20 De a főpapok és vének rávették a tömeget, hogy Barabást kérjék, Jézust pedig veszítsék el.
21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.	21 A helytartó tehát megkérdezte tőlük: »Melyiket akarjátok, hogy a kettő közül elbocsássam nektek?« Azok azt felelték: »Barabást!«
22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.	22 Pilátus erre azt kérdezte: »És mit tegyek Jézussal, akit Krisztusnak mondanak?«
23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.	23 Azok mindnyájan ezt felelték: »Keresztre vele!« Ő újra megkérdezte: »De hát mi rosszat tett?« Azok erre még hangosabban kiáltoztak: »Keresztre vele!«
24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.	24 Pilátus, látva, hogy semmire sem megy, sőt inkább zavargás támad, vizet hozatott, megmosta a kezét a tömeg előtt és így szólt: »Én ártatlan vagyok ennek a vérétől. Ti lássátok!«
25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.	25 Az egész nép azt felelte: »Az ő vére rajtunk és gyermekeinken!«
26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.	26 Erre elbocsátotta nekik Barabást, Jézust pedig megostoroztatta és átadta nekik, hogy feszítsék keresztre.
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.	27 Ekkor a helytartó katonái bevitték Jézust a helytartóságra, és összegyűjtötték köréje az egész csapatot.
28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.	28 Levetkőztették, vörös katonaköpenyt adtak rá,
29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!	29 tövisekből koronát fontak, rátették a fejére, egy nádszálat pedig a jobb kezébe, aztán térdet hajtva előtte így gúnyolták: »Üdvözlégy, zsidók királya!«
30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.	30 Leköpdösték, elvették a nádat és a fejét verték.
31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.	31 Miután így gúnyt űztek belőle, levették róla a katonaköpenyt, ráadták saját ruháit, és elvezették, hogy keresztre feszítsék.
32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.	32 Miközben kifelé mentek, találtak egy cirenei embert, név szerint Simont. Ezt kényszerítették, hogy vigye a keresztjét.

35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.	35 Miután felfeszítették, sorsot vetve megosztoztak a ruháin .
36 And sitting down they watched him there;	36 Azután leültek és ott őrizték őt.
37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.	37 A feje fölé föltették elítélésének okát. Ez volt ráírva: »Ez Jézus, a Zsidók Királya«.
38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.	38 Két rablót is megfeszítettek vele együtt, az egyiket jobbról, a másikat balról.
39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,	39 Az arra járók pedig a fejüket csóválva káromolták ,
40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.	40 és ezt mondták: »Te, aki lebontod a templomot és három nap alatt fölépíted, mentsd meg magadat! Ha Isten Fia vagy, szállj le a keresztről!«
41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,	41 Ugyanígy a főpapok is csúfolódva mondogatták az írástudókkal és a vénekkel együtt:
42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.	42 »Másokat megmentett, magát meg nem tudja megmenteni. Izrael királya ő, szálljon le most a keresztről, és hiszünk neki!
43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.	43 Az Istenben bízott, szabadítsa hát meg most, ha akarja! Hiszen azt mondta: ‘Az Isten Fia vagyok.’«
44 The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.	44 Így gyalázták őt a rablók is, akiket vele együtt feszítettek keresztre.
45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.	45 A hatodik órától sötétség lett az egész földön a kilencedik óráig.
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?	46 A kilencedik óra körül Jézus hangosan felkiáltott: »Élí, Élí, lemá szabaktáni?«, azaz: »Istenem, Istenem, miért hagytál el engem?«
47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.	47 Ennek hallatára egyesek az ott állók közül így szóltak: »Ez Illést hívja.«
48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.	48 Az egyikük mindjárt elszaladt, hozott egy szivacsot, ecetbe mártotta, és nádszálra tűzve inni adott neki .
49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.	49 A többiek pedig így szóltak: »Hagyd csak, lássuk, eljön-e Illés, hogy megszabadítsa?«
50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.	50 Ekkor Jézus ismét hangosan felkiáltott és kiadta a lelkét.
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;	51 És íme, a templom függönye kettészakadt felülről az aljáig, a föld megrendült, a sziklák megrepedtek,
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,	52 a sírok megnyíltak, és sok elhunyt szentnek föltámadt a teste.
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.	53 Föltámadása után előjöttek a sírokból, bementek a szent városba, és sokaknak megjelentek.
54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.	54 A százados pedig, és akik vele együtt őrizték Jézust, a földrengés és a történtek láttán nagyon megrémültek és azt mondták: »Ez valóban Isten Fia volt.«
55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:	55 Volt ott sok asszony is, akik messziről figyelték, azok, akik Galileából követték Jézust, és szolgáltak neki.
56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.	56 Köztük volt Mária Magdolna, Mária, Jakab és József anyja, és Zebedeus fiainak anyja.
57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:	57 Mikor beesteledett, jött egy Arimateából való gazdag ember, név szerint József, aki maga is tanítványa volt Jézusnak.
58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.	58 Odament Pilátushoz, és elkérte Jézus testét. Akkor Pilátus megparancsolta, hogy adják ki neki.
59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,	59 József fogta a testet, begöngyölte tiszta gyolcsvászonba,
60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.	60 és betette sziklába vágott, saját, új sírboltjába. A sír bejáratához egy nagy követ hengerített és elment.
61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.	61 Mária Magdolna és a másik Mária ott voltak, és ültek a sírral szemben.
62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,	62 Másnap pedig, azaz a készületnap után, Pilátusnál összegyűltek a főpapok és a farizeusok
63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.	63 és azt mondták: »Uram! Emlékszünk, hogy ez a csaló még életében azt mondta: ‘Három nap múlva föltámadok.’
64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.	64 Parancsold meg tehát, hogy őrizzék a sírt a harmadik napig, nehogy odamenjenek a tanítványai, ellopják, és azt mondják a népnek: ‘Feltámadt a halálból’. Ez az utóbbi csalás rosszabb lenne az előzőnél!«
65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.	65 Pilátus azt felelte nekik: »Van őrségtek, menjetek és biztosítsátok magatoknak, ahogy tudjátok.«
66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.	66 Azok pedig elmentek, lepecsételték a követ, és őrséggel biztosították maguknak a sírt.
