Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.1 To David, when he changed his appearance in the sight of Abimelech, and so he dismissed him, and he went away.
Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.2 I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise will be ever in my mouth.
Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.3 In the Lord, my soul will be praised. May the meek listen and rejoice.
For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.4 Magnify the Lord with me, and let us extol his name in itself.
He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.5 I sought the Lord, and he heeded me, and he carried me away from all my tribulations.
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.6 Approach him and be enlightened, and your faces will not be confounded.
He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.7 This poor one cried out, and the Lord heeded him, and he saved him from all his tribulations.
Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.8 The Angel of the Lord will encamp around those who fear him, and he will rescue them.
For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.9 Taste and see that the Lord is sweet. Blessed is the man who hopes in him.
The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.10 Fear the Lord, all you his saints. For there is no destitution for those who fear him.
The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.11 The rich have been needy and hungry, but those who seek the Lord will not be deprived of any good thing.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD: and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.12 Come forward, sons. Listen to me. I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.13 Which is the man who wills life, who chooses to see good days?
From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth.14 Prohibit your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.
He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.15 Turn away from evil, and do good. Inquire about peace, and pursue it.
There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.16 The eyes of the Lord are on the just, and his ears are with their prayers.
An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.17 But the countenance of the Lord is upon those who do evil, to perish the remembrance of them from the earth.
Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;18 The just cried out, and the Lord heard them, and he freed them from all their tribulations.
To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.19 The Lord is near to those who are troubled in heart, and he will save the humble in spirit.
Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.20 Many are the afflictions of the just, but from them all the Lord will free them.
For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.21 The Lord preserves all of their bones, not one of them shall be broken.
Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.22 The death of a sinner is very harmful, and those who hate the just will fare badly.
The Lord will redeem the souls of his servants, and none of those who hope in him will fare badly.
