Proverbios 1

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Proverbios de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel,	1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
2 para conocer la sabiduría y la instrucción, para entender las palabras profundas,	2 for learning what wisdom and discipline are, for understanding words of deep meaning,
3 para obtener una instrucción esmerada –justicia, equidad y rectitud–	3 for acquiring a disciplined insight, uprightness, justice and fair dealing;
4 para dar perspicacia a los incautos, y al joven, ciencia y reflexión;	4 for teaching sound judgement to the simple, and knowledge and reflection to the young;
5 Que escuche el sabio, y acrecentará su saber, y el inteligente adquirirá el arte de dirigir.	5 Let the wise listen and learn yet more, and a person of discernment wil acquire the art of guidance.
6 para entender los proverbios y las sentencias agudas, las palabras de los sabios y sus enigmas.	6 for perceiving the meaning of proverbs and obscure sayings, the sayings of the sages and their riddles.
7 El temor del Señor es el comienzo de la sabiduría, los necios desprecian la sabiduría y la instrucción.	7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; fools spurn wisdom and discipline.
8 Escucha, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre y no rechaces la enseñanza de tu madre,	8 Listen, my child, to your father's instruction, do not reject your mother's teaching:
9 porque son una diadema de gracia para tu cabeza y un collar para tu cuello.	9 they wil be a crown of grace for your head, a circlet for your neck.
10 Hijo mío, si los pecadores intentan seducirte, tú no aceptes.	10 My child, if sinners try to seduce you, do not go with them.
11 Si ellos dicen: «Ven con nosotros, tendamos una emboscada sangrienta, acechemos por puro gusto al inocente;	11 If they say, 'Come with us: let us lie in ambush to shed blood; if we plan an ambush for the innocentwithout provocation,
12 traguémoslos vivos como el Abismo, todos enteros, como los que bajan a la Fosa;	12 we can swal ow them alive, like Sheol, and whole, like those who sink into oblivion.
13 hallaremos toda clase de bienes preciosos, llenaremos nuestras casas con el botín;	13 We shal find treasures of every sort, we shall fil our houses with plunder;
14 tendrás tu parte igual que nosotros, todos haremos una bolsa común».	14 throw in your lot with us: one purse between us al .'
15 hijo mío, no los acompañes por el camino, retira tus pies de sus senderos,	15 My child, do not fol ow them in their way, keep your steps out of their path
16 porque sus pies corren hacia el mal y se apresuran para derramar sangre.	16 for their feet hasten to evil, they are quick to shed blood;
17 Pero en vano se tiende la red, si pueden verla todos los pájaros:	17 for the net is spread in vain if any winged creature can see it.
18 ellos tienden contra sí mismos una emboscada sangrienta, están al acecho contra sus propias vidas.	18 It is for their own blood such people lie in wait, their ambush is against their own selves!
19 Tal es la suerte del que obtiene ganancias injustas; le quitan la vida al que las posee.	19 Such are the paths of al who seek dishonest gain: which robs of their lives al who take it for their own.
20 La Sabiduría clama por las calles, en las plazas hace oír su voz;	20 Wisdom cal s aloud in the streets, she raises her voice in the public squares;
21 llama en las esquinas más concurridas, a la entrada de las puertas de la ciudad, dice sus palabras:	21 she cal s out at the street corners, she delivers her message at the city gates.
22 «¿Hasta cuándo, incautos, amarán la ingenuidad? ¿Hasta cuándo los insolentes se complacerán en su insolencia y los necios aborrecerán la ciencia?	22 'You simple people, how much longer will you cling to your simple ways? How much longer willmockers revel in their mocking and fools go on hating knowledge?
23 Tengan en cuenta mi reproche: yo voy a abrirles mi corazón y les haré conocer mis palabras.	23 Pay attention to my warning. To you I wil pour out my heart and tel you what I have to say.
24 Porque llamo y ustedes se resisten, extiendo mi mano y nadie presta atención,	24 Since I have cal ed and you have refused me, since I have beckoned and no one has taken notice,
25 porque ustedes desoyen todos mis consejos y no aceptan mi reproche,	25 since you have ignored al my advice and rejected al my warnings,
26 yo, a mi vez, me reiré de la ruina de ustedes, me burlaré cuando los asalte el terror,	26 I, for my part, shall laugh at your distress, I shal jeer when terror befal s you,
27 cuando los invada el terror como una tormenta y les llegue la ruina como un huracán. cuando les sobrevengan la angustia y la tribulación:	27 when terror befal s you, like a storm, when your distress arrives, like a whirlwind, when ordeal andanguish bear down on you.
28 entonces me llamarán, y yo no responderé, me buscarán ansiosamente, y no me encontrarán.	28 Then they will cal me, but I shal not answer, they wil look eagerly for me and will not find me.
29 Porque ellos aborrecieron la ciencia y no eligieron el temor del Señor,	29 They have hated knowledge, they have not chosen the fear of Yahweh,
30 porque no quisieron mi consejo y despreciaron todos mis reproches,	30 they have taken no notice of my advice, they have spurned al my warnings:
31 gustarán el fruto de su propia conducta, se hartarán de sus consejos.	31 so they wil have to eat the fruits of their own ways of life, and choke themselves with their ownscheming.
32 Porque a los ingenuos los mata su propio extravío y la desidia pierde a los necios,	32 For the errors of the simple lead to their death, the complacency of fools works their own ruin;
33 pero el que me escucha vivirá seguro y estará tranquilo, sin temer ningún mal».	33 but whoever listens to me may live secure, will have quiet, fearing no mischance.'
