I Timotheum 3

1 Fidelis sermo : si quis episcopatum desiderat, bonum opus desiderat.	1 Here is a saying that you can rely on: to want to be a presiding elder is to desire a noble task.
2 Oportet ergo episcopum irreprehensibilem esse, unius uxoris virum, sobrium, prudentem, ornatum, pudicum, hospitalem, doctorem,	2 That is why the presiding elder must have an impeccable character. Husband of one wife, he must betemperate, discreet and courteous, hospitable and a good teacher;
3 non vinolentum, non percussorem, sed modestum : non litigiosum, non cupidum, sed	3 not a heavy drinker, nor hot-tempered, but gentle and peaceable, not avaricious,
4 suæ domui bene præpositum : filios habentem subditos cum omni castitate.	4 a man who manages his own household wel and brings his children up to obey him and be wel -behaved:
5 Si quis autem domui suæ præesse nescit, quomodo ecclesiæ Dei diligentiam habebit ?	5 how can any man who does not understand how to manage his own household take care of the Churchof God?
6 Non neophytum : ne in superbiam elatus, in judicium incidat diaboli.	6 He should not be a new convert, in case pride should turn his head and he incur the samecondemnation as the devil.
7 Oportet autem illum et testimonium habere bonum ab iis qui foris sunt, ut non in opprobrium incidat, et in laqueum diaboli.	7 It is also necessary that he be held in good repute by outsiders, so that he never falls into disrepute andinto the devil's trap.

11 Mulieres similiter pudicas, non detrahentes, sobrias, fideles in omnibus.	11 Similarly, women must be respectable, not gossips, but sober and whol y reliable.
12 Diaconi sint unius uxoris viri, qui filiis suis bene præsint, et suis domibus.	12 Deacons must be husbands of one wife and must be people who manage their children andhouseholds wel .
13 Qui enim bene ministraverint, gradum bonum sibi acquirent, et multam fiduciam in fide, quæ est in Christo Jesu.	13 Those of them who carry out their duties wel as deacons wil earn a high standing for themselves andan authoritative voice in matters concerning faith in Christ Jesus.
14 Hæc tibi scribo, sperans me ad te venire cito :	14 I write this to you in the hope that I may be able to come to you soon;
15 si autem tardavero, ut scias quomodo oporteat te in domo Dei conversari, quæ est ecclesia Dei vivi, columna et firmamentum veritatis.	15 but in case I should be delayed, I want you to know how people ought to behave in God's household --that is, in the Church of the living God, pillar and support of the truth.
16 Et manifeste magnum est pietatis sacramentum, quod manifestatum est in carne, justificatum est in spiritu, apparuit angelis, prædicatum est gentibus, creditum est in mundo, assumptum est in gloria.	16 Without any doubt, the mystery of our religion is very deep indeed: He was made visible in the flesh,justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed to the gentiles, believed in throughout the world, taken up inglory.
