Ad Corinthios II 6

VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 Adjuvantes autem exhortamur ne in vacuum gratiam Dei recipiatis.1 As his fel ow-workers, we urge you not to let your acceptance of his grace come to nothing.
2 Ait enim : Tempore accepto exaudivi te, et in die salutis adjuvi te. Ecce nunc tempus acceptabile, ecce nunc dies salutis.2 As he said, 'At the time of my favour I have answered you; on the day of salvation I have helped you';wel , now is the real time of favour, now the day of salvation is here.
3 Nemini dantes ullam offensionem, ut non vituperetur ministerium nostrum :3 We avoid putting obstacles in anyone's way, so that no blame may attach to our work of service;
4 sed in omnibus exhibeamus nosmetipsos sicut Dei ministros in multa patientia, in tribulationibus, in necessitatibus, in angustiis,4 but in everything we prove ourselves authentic servants of God; by resolute perseverance in times ofhardships, difficulties and distress;
5 in plagis, in carceribus, in seditionibus, in laboribus, in vigiliis, in jejuniis,5 when we are flogged or sent to prison or mobbed; labouring, sleepless, starving;
6 in castitate, in scientia, in longanimitate, in suavitate, in Spiritu Sancto, in caritate non ficta,6 in purity, in knowledge, in patience, in kindness; in the Holy Spirit, in a love free of affectation;
7 in verbo veritatis, in virtute Dei, per arma justitiæ a dextris et a sinistris,7 in the word of truth and in the power of God; by using the weapons of uprightness for attack and fordefence:
8 per gloriam, et ignobilitatem, per infamiam, et bonam famam : ut seductores, et veraces, sicut qui ignoti, et cogniti :8 in times of honour or disgrace, blame or praise; taken for impostors and yet we are genuine;
9 quasi morientes, et ecce vivimus : ut castigati, et non mortificati :9 unknown and yet we are acknowledged; dying, and yet here we are, alive; scourged but not executed;
10 quasi tristes, semper autem gaudentes : sicut egentes, multos autem locupletantes : tamquam nihil habentes, et omnia possidentes.
10 in pain yet always ful of joy; poor and yet making many people rich; having nothing, and yet owningeverything.
11 Os nostrum patet ad vos, o Corinthii ; cor nostrum dilatatum est.11 People of Corinth, we have spoken frankly and opened our heart to you.
12 Non angustiamini in nobis : angustiamini autem in visceribus vestris :12 Any distress you feel is not on our side; the distress is in your own selves.
13 eamdem autem habentes remunerationem, tamquam filiis dico, dilatamini et vos.
13 In fair exchange -- I speak as though to children of mine -- you must open your hearts too.
14 Nolite jugum ducere cum infidelibus. Quæ enim participatio justitiæ cum iniquitate ? aut quæ societas luci ad tenebras ?14 Do not harness yourselves in an uneven team with unbelievers; how can uprightness and law-breaking be partners, or what can light and darkness have in common?
15 quæ autem conventio Christi ad Belial ? aut quæ pars fideli cum infideli ?15 How can Christ come to an agreement with Beliar and what sharing can there be between a believerand an unbeliever?
16 qui autem consensus templo Dei cum idolis ? vos enim estis templum Dei vivi, sicut dicit Deus : Quoniam inhabitabo in illis, et inambulabo inter eos,
et ero illorum Deus, et ipsi erunt mihi populus.
16 The temple of God cannot compromise with false gods, and that is what we are -- the temple of theliving God. We have God's word for it: I shall fix my home among them and live among them; I will be their Godand they wil be my people.
17 Propter quod exite de medio eorum,
et separamini, dicit Dominus,
et immundum ne tetigeritis :
17 Get away from them, purify yourselves, says the Lord. Do not touch anything unclean, and then I shallwelcome you.
18 et ego recipiam vos :
et ero vobis in patrem,
et vos eritis mihi in filios et filias,
dicit Dominus omnipotens.
18 I shal be father to you, and you will be sons and daughters to me, says the almighty Lord.
