LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 All'uomo i progetti del cuore, ma dal Signore la risposta della lingua.	1 Man may make plans in his heart, but what the tongue utters is from the LORD.
2 Tutte le vie dell'uomo sono pure ai suoi occhi, ma chi esamina gli spiriti è il Signore.	2 All the ways of a man may be pure in his own eyes, but it is the LORD who proves the spirit.
3 Affida al Signore le tue opere e i tuoi progetti si realizzeranno.	3 Entrust your works to the LORD, and your plans will succeed.
4 Ogni opera del Signore è fatta per un fine; anche l'empio, per il giorno di sventura.	4 The LORD has made everything for his own ends, even the wicked for the evil day.
5 Il Signore detesta ogni cuore orgoglioso; sicuramente non sarà impunito.	5 Every proud man is an abomination to the LORD; I assure you that he will not go unpunished.
6 Con la bontà e la fedeltà si espìa il peccato e col timor di Dio ci si allontana dal male.	6 By kindness and piety guilt is expiated, and by the fear of the LORD man avoids evil.
7 Quando il Signore si compiace delle vie di un uomo, gli riconcilia pure i suoi nemici.	7 When the LORD is pleased with a man's ways, he makes even his enemies be at peace with him.
8 E' meglio poco con giustizia che molti beni senza l'equità.	8 Better a little with virtue, than a large income with injustice.
9 Il cuore dell'uomo decide la sua strada, ma il Signore consolida il suo passo.	9 In his mind a man plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.
10 C'è un oracolo sulle labbra del re, nel giudizio la sua bocca non prevarica.	10 The king's lips are an oracle; no judgment he pronounces is false.
11 La bilancia e i piatti giusti son del Signore, tutti i pesi del sacco son sua opera.	11 Balance and scales belong to the LORD; all the weights used with them are his concern.
12 I re detestano fare il male, perché con la giustizia il trono si consolida.	12 Kings have a horror of wrongdoing, for by righteousness the throne endures.
13 Delizia dei re sono le labbra giuste, essi amano chi dice cose rette.	13 The king takes delight in honest lips, and the man who speaks what is right he loves.
14 L'ira del re è messaggera di morte, ma l'uomo saggio la placa.	14 The king's wrath is like messengers of death, but a wise man can pacify it.
15 Nella luce del volto del re c'è la vita, il suo favore è come pioggia primaverile.	15 In the light of the king's countenance is life, and his favor is like a rain cloud in spring.
16 E' meglio possedere sapienza che oro e intelligenza più che argento.	16 How much better to acquire wisdom than gold! To acquire understanding is more desirable than silver.
17 La via dei retti è fuggire il male; chi vuol custodire la sua anima sorveglia la sua strada.	17 The path of the upright avoids misfortune; he who pays attention to his way safeguards his life.
18 Davanti alla rovina c'è l'orgoglio, davanti alla caduta lo spirito altero.	18 Pride goes before disaster, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Meglio l'umiltà dello spirito coi poveri che una parte della preda coi superbi.	19 It is better to be humble with the meek than to share plunder with the proud.
20 Chi sta attento alla parola trova il bene, e chi confida nel Signore è beato.	20 He who plans a thing will be successful; happy is he who trusts in the LORD!
21 Chi è saggio di cuore è proclamato intelligente e la dolcezza delle labbra aumenta il valore.	21 The wise man is esteemed for his discernment, yet pleasing speech increases his persuasiveness.
22 Sorgente di vita è la sapienza per chi l'ha, castigo degli stolti è la stoltezza.	22 Good sense is a fountain of life to its possessor, but folly brings chastisement on fools.
23 Il cuore del saggio fa intelligente la sua bocca e alle sue labbra aggiunge prestigio.	23 The mind of the wise man makes him eloquent, and augments the persuasiveness of his lips.
24 Un favo di miele son le parole amabili, dolci per l'anima e salutari per le ossa.	24 Pleasing words are a honeycomb, sweet to the taste and healthful to the body.
25 Agli occhi dell'uomo una strada sembra retta, ma all'altro capo ci son sentieri di morte.	25 Sometimes a way seems right to a man, but the end of it leads to death!
26 L'appetito del lavoratore lavora per lui, perché su lui fa forza la sua bocca.	26 The laborer's appetite labors for him, for his mouth urges him on.
27 L'uomo da niente prepara il male e sopra le sue labbra c'è come un fuoco ardente.	27 A scoundrel is a furnace of evil, and on his lips there is a scorching fire.
28 L'uomo tortuoso fa nascer la discordia e chi diffama divide gli amici.	28 An intriguer sows discord, and a talebearer separates bosom friends.
29 L'uomo violento seduce il suo prossimo e lo conduce per una via non buona.	29 A lawless man allures his neighbor, and leads him into a way that is not good.
30 Chi fa occhiolino trama cose false, chi comprime le labbra compie il male.	30 He who winks his eye is plotting trickery; he who compresses his lips has mischief ready.
31 Corona di gloria è la canizie; si trova sul sentiero della giustizia.	31 Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by virtuous living.
32 E' meglio un uomo lento all'ira che un eroe, e chi domina il suo spirito val più di chi conquista una città.	32 A patient man is better than a warrior, and he who rules his temper, than he who takes a city.
33 Nel cavo della veste si getta la sorte, ma tutta la decisione viene dal Signore.	33 When the lot is cast into the lap, its decision depends entirely on the LORD.
