Job 41

I will not stir him up, like one that is cruel : for who can resist my countenance?1 "Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook, or press down his tongue with a cord?
Who hath given me before that I should repay him? All things that are under heaven are mine.2 Can you put a rope in his nose, or pierce his jaw with a hook?
I will not spare him, nor his mighty words, and framed to make supplication.3 Will he make many supplications to you? Will he speak to you soft words?
Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can go into the midst of his mouth?4 Will he make a covenant with you to take him for your servant for ever?
Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.5 Will you play with him as with a bird, or will you put him on leash for your maidens?
His body is like molten shields, shut close up with scales pressing upon one another.6 Will traders bargain over him? Will they divide him up among the merchants?
One is joined to another, and not so much as any air can come between them :7 Can you fill his skin with harpoons, or his head with fishing spears?
They stick one to another and they hold one another fast, and shall not be separated.8 Lay hands on him; think of the battle; you will not do it again!
His sneezing is like the shining of fire, and his eyes like the eyelids of the morning.9 Behold, the hope of a man is disappointed; he is laid low even at the sight of him.
Out of his mouth go forth lamps, like torches of lighted fire.10 No one is so fierce that he dares to stir him up. Who then is he that can stand before me?
Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, like that of a pot heated and boiling.11 Who has given to me, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine.
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame cometh forth out of his mouth.12 "I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, or his mighty strength, or his goodly frame.
In his neck strength shall dwell, and want goeth before his face.13 Who can strip off his outer garment? Who can penetrate his double coat of mail?
The members of his flesh cleave one to another : he shall send lightnings against him, and they shall not be carried to another place.14 Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.
His heart shall be as hard as a stone, and as firm as a smith's anvil.15 His back is made of rows of shields, shut up closely as with a seal.
When he shall raise him up, the angels shall fear, and being affrighted shall purify themselves.16 One is so near to another that no air can come between them.
When a sword shall lay at him, it shall not be able to hold, nor a spear, nor a breastplate.17 They are joined one to another; they clasp each other and cannot be separated.
For he shall esteem iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.18 His sneezings flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the dawn.
The archer shall not put him to flight, the stones of the sling are to him like stubble.19 Out of his mouth go flaming torches; sparks of fire leap forth.
As stubble will he esteem the hammer, and he will laugh him to scorn who shaketh the spear.20 Out of his nostrils comes forth smoke, as from a boiling pot and burning rushes.
The beams of the sun shall be under him, and he shall strew gold under him like mire.21 His breath kindles coals, and a flame comes forth from his mouth.
He shall make the deep sea to boil like a pot, and shall make it as when ointments boil.22 In his neck abides strength, and terror dances before him.
A path shall shine after him, he shall esteem the deep as growing old.23 The folds of his flesh cleave together, firmly cast upon him and immovable.
There is no power upon earth that can be compared with him who was made to fear no one.24 His heart is hard as a stone, hard as the nether millstone.
He beholdeth every high thing, he is king over all the children of pride.25 When he raises himself up the mighty are afraid; at the crashing they are beside themselves.
Though the sword reaches him, it does not avail; nor the spear, the dart, or the javelin.
He counts iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood.
The arrow cannot make him flee; for him slingstones are turned to stubble.
Clubs are counted as stubble; he laughs at the rattle of javelins.
His underparts are like sharp potsherds; he spreads himself like a threshing sledge on the mire.
He makes the deep boil like a pot; he makes the sea like a pot of ointment.
Behind him he leaves a shining wake; one would think the deep to be hoary.
Upon earth there is not his like, a creature without fear.
He beholds everything that is high; he is king over all the sons of pride."
