Job 41

DOUAI-RHEIMSJERUSALEM
I will not stir him up, like one that is cruel : for who can resist my countenance?1 Ton espérance serait illusoire, car sa vue seule suffit à terrasser.
Who hath given me before that I should repay him? All things that are under heaven are mine.2 Il devient féroce quand on l'éveille, qui peut lui résister en face?
I will not spare him, nor his mighty words, and framed to make supplication.3 Qui donc l'a affronté sans en pâtir? Personne sous tous les cieux!
Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can go into the midst of his mouth?4 Je parlerai aussi de ses membres, je dirai sa force incomparable.
Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.5 Qui a découvert par devant sa tunique, pénétré dans sa double cuirasse?
His body is like molten shields, shut close up with scales pressing upon one another.6 Qui a ouvert les battants de sa gueule? La terreur règne autour de ses dents!
One is joined to another, and not so much as any air can come between them :7 Son dos, ce sont des rangées de boucliers, que ferme un sceau de pierre.
They stick one to another and they hold one another fast, and shall not be separated.8 Ils se touchent de si près qu'un souffle ne peut s'y infiltrer.
His sneezing is like the shining of fire, and his eyes like the eyelids of the morning.9 Ils adhèrent l'un à l'autre et font un bloc sans fissure.
Out of his mouth go forth lamps, like torches of lighted fire.10 Son éternuement projette de la lumière, ses yeux ressemblent aux paupières de l'aurore.
Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, like that of a pot heated and boiling.11 De sa gueule jaillissent des torches, il s'en échappe des étincelles de feu.
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame cometh forth out of his mouth.12 Ses naseaux crachent de la fumée, comme un chaudron qui bout sur le feu.
In his neck strength shall dwell, and want goeth before his face.13 Son souffle allumerait des charbons, une flamme sort de sa gueule.
The members of his flesh cleave one to another : he shall send lightnings against him, and they shall not be carried to another place.14 Sur son cou est campée la force, et devant lui bondit la violence.
His heart shall be as hard as a stone, and as firm as a smith's anvil.15 Les fanons de sa chair sont soudés ensemble: ils adhèrent à elle, inébranlables.
When he shall raise him up, the angels shall fear, and being affrighted shall purify themselves.16 Son coeur est dur comme le roc, résistant comme la meule de dessous.
When a sword shall lay at him, it shall not be able to hold, nor a spear, nor a breastplate.17 Quand il se dresse, les flots prennent peur et les vagues de la mer se retirent.
For he shall esteem iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.18 L'épée l'atteint sans se fixer, de même lance, javeline ou dard.
The archer shall not put him to flight, the stones of the sling are to him like stubble.19 Pour lui, le fer n'est que paille, et l'airain, du bois pourri.
As stubble will he esteem the hammer, and he will laugh him to scorn who shaketh the spear.20 Les traits de l'arc ne le font pas fuir: il reçoit comme un fétu les pierres de fronde.
The beams of the sun shall be under him, and he shall strew gold under him like mire.21 La massue lui semble un fétu, il se rit du javelot qui vibre.
He shall make the deep sea to boil like a pot, and shall make it as when ointments boil.22 Il a sous lui des tessons aigus, comme une herse il passe sur la vase.
A path shall shine after him, he shall esteem the deep as growing old.23 Il fait bouillonner le gouffre comme une chaudière, il change la mer en brûle-parfums.
There is no power upon earth that can be compared with him who was made to fear no one.24 Il laisse derrière lui un sillage lumineux, l'abîme semble couvert d'une toison blanche.
He beholdeth every high thing, he is king over all the children of pride.25 Sur terre, il n'a point son pareil, il a été fait intrépide.
Il regarde en face les plus hautains, il est roi sur tous les fils de l'orgueil.
