| 3 Rut andò e si mise a spigolare nella campagna dietro ai mietitori; per caso si trovò nella parte della campagna appartenente a Booz, che era della famiglia di Elimèlech. | 3 So she set forth and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech. |
| 4 Ed ecco Booz arrivò da Betlemme e disse ai mietitori: "Il Signore sia con voi!". Quelli gli risposero: "Il Signore ti benedica!". | 4 And behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem; and he said to the reapers, "The LORD be with you!" And they answered, "The LORD bless you." |

| 8 Allora Booz disse a Rut: "Ascolta, figlia mia, non andare a spigolare in un altro campo; non allontanarti di qui, ma rimani con le mie giovani; | 8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, "Now, listen, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field or leave this one, but keep close to my maidens. |
| 9 tieni d'occhio il campo dove si miete e cammina dietro a loro. Non ho forse ordinato ai miei giovani di non molestarti? Quando avrai sete, va' a bere dagli orci ciò che i giovani avranno attinto". | 9 Let your eyes be upon the field which they are reaping, and go after them. Have I not charged the young men not to molest you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink what the young men have drawn." |
| 10 Allora Rut si prostrò con la faccia a terra e gli disse: "Per qual motivo ho trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, così che tu ti interessi di me che sono una straniera?". | 10 Then she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, "Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, when I am a foreigner?" |
| 11 Booz le rispose: "Mi è stato riferito quanto hai fatto per tua suocera dopo la morte di tuo marito e come hai abbandonato tuo padre, tua madre e la tua patria per venire presso un popolo, che prima non conoscevi. | 11 But Boaz answered her, "All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before. |
| 12 Il Signore ti ripaghi quanto hai fatto e il tuo salario sia pieno da parte del Signore, Dio d'Israele, sotto le cui ali sei venuta a rifugiarti". | 12 The LORD recompense you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!" |

| 14 Poi, al momento del pasto, Booz le disse: "Vieni, mangia il pane e intingi il boccone nell'aceto". Essa si pose a sedere accanto ai mietitori. Booz le pose davanti grano abbrustolito; essa ne mangiò a sazietà e ne mise da parte gli avanzi. | 14 And at mealtime Boaz said to her, "Come here, and eat some bread, and dip your morsel in the wine." So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed to her parched grain; and she ate until she was satisfied, and she had some left over. |
| 15 Poi si alzò per tornare a spigolare e Booz diede quest'ordine ai suoi servi: "Lasciatela spigolare anche fra i covoni e non le fate affronto; | 15 When she rose to glean, Boaz instructed his young men, saying, "Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her. |
| 16 anzi lasciate cadere apposta per lei spighe dai mannelli; abbandonatele, perché essa le raccolga, e non sgridatela". | 16 And also pull out some from the bundles for her, and leave it for her to glean, and do not rebuke her." |
| 17 Così essa spigolò nel campo fino alla sera; batté quello che aveva raccolto e ne venne circa una quarantina di chili di orzo. | 17 So she gleaned in the field until evening; then she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley. |
18 Se lo caricò addosso, entrò in città e sua suocera vide ciò che essa aveva spigolato. Poi Rut tirò fuori quello che era rimasto del cibo e glielo diede.
| 18 And she took it up and went into the city; she showed her mother-in-law what she had gleaned, and she also brought out and gave her what food she had left over after being satisfied. |
| 19 La suocera le chiese: "Dove hai spigolato oggi? Dove hai lavorato? Benedetto colui che si è interessato di te!". Rut riferì alla suocera presso chi aveva lavorato e disse: "L'uomo presso il quale ho lavorato oggi si chiama Booz". | 19 And her mother-in-law said to her, "Where did you glean today? And where have you worked? Blessed be the man who took notice of you." So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, and said, "The man's name with whom I worked today is Boaz." |
| 20 Noemi disse alla nuora: "Sia benedetto dal Signore, che non ha rinunciato alla sua bontà verso i vivi e verso i morti!". Aggiunse: "Questo uomo è nostro parente stretto; è di quelli che hanno su di noi il diritto di riscatto". | 20 And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, "Blessed be he by the LORD, whose kindness has not forsaken the living or the dead!" Naomi also said to her, "The man is a relative of ours, one of our nearest kin." |
| 21 Rut, la Moabita, disse: "Mi ha anche detto: Rimani insieme ai miei servi, finché abbiano finito tutta la mia mietitura". | 21 And Ruth the Moabitess said, "Besides, he said to me, 'You shall keep close by my servants, till they have finished all my harvest.'" |
| 22 Noemi disse a Rut, sua nuora: "È bene, figlia mia, che tu vada con le sue schiave e non ti esponga a sgarberie in un altro campo". | 22 And Naomi said to Ruth, her daughter-in-law, "It is well, my daughter, that you go out with his maidens, lest in another field you be molested." |
| 23 Essa rimase dunque con le schiave di Booz, a spigolare, sino alla fine della mietitura dell'orzo e del frumento. Poi abitò con la suocera. | 23 So she kept close to the maidens of Boaz, gleaning until the end of the barley and wheat harvests; and she lived with her mother-in-law. |
