BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Perciò, lasciando da parte l'insegnamento iniziale su Cristo, passiamo a ciò che è più completo, senza gettare di nuovo le fondamenta della rinunzia alle opere morte e della fede in Dio,	1 Let us leave behind us then al the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to its completion,without going over the fundamental doctrines again: the turning away from dead actions, faith in God,
2 della dottrina dei battesimi, dell'imposizione delle mani, della risurrezione dei morti e del giudizio eterno.	2 the teaching about baptisms and the laying -- on of hands, about the resurrection of the dead andeternal judgement.
3 Questo noi intendiamo fare, se Dio lo permette.	3 This, God willing, is what we propose to do.
4 Quelli infatti che sono stati una volta illuminati, che hanno gustato il dono celeste, sono diventati partecipi dello Spirito Santo	4 As for those people who were once brought into the light, and tasted the gift from heaven, and receiveda share of the Holy Spirit,
5 e hanno gustato la buona parola di Dio e le meraviglie del mondo futuro.	5 and tasted the goodness of God's message and the powers of the world to come
6 Tuttavia se sono caduti, è impossibile rinnovarli una seconda volta portandoli alla conversione, dal momento che per loro conto crocifiggono di nuovo il Figlio di Dio e lo espongono all'infamia.	6 and yet in spite of this have fal en away -- it is impossible for them to be brought to the freshness ofrepentance a second time, since they are crucifying the Son of God again for themselves, and making a publicexhibition of him.
7 Infatti una terra imbevuta della pioggia che spesso cade su di essa, se produce erbe utili a quanti la coltivano, riceve benedizione da Dio;	7 A field that drinks up the rain that has fal en frequently on it, and yields the crops that are wanted by theowners who grew them, receives God's blessing;
8 ma se 'produce pruni e spine', non ha alcun valore ed è vicina 'alla maledizione': sarà infine arsa dal fuoco!	8 but one that grows brambles and thistles is worthless, and near to being cursed. It will end by beingburnt.
9 Quanto a voi però, carissimi, anche se parliamo così, siamo certi che sono in voi cose migliori e che portano alla salvezza.	9 But you, my dear friends -- in spite of what we have just said, we are sure you are in a better state andon the way to salvation.
10 Dio infatti non è ingiusto da dimenticare il vostro lavoro e la carità che avete dimostrato verso il suo nome, con i servizi che avete reso e rendete tuttora ai santi.	10 God would not be so unjust as to forget al you have done, the love that you have for his name or theservices you have done, and are stil doing, for the holy people of God.
11 Soltanto desideriamo che ciascuno di voi dimostri il medesimo zelo perché la sua speranza abbia compimento sino alla fine,	11 Our desire is that every one of you should go on showing the same enthusiasm til the ultimatefulfilment of your hope,
12 e perché non diventiate pigri, ma piuttosto imitatori di coloro che con la fede e la perseveranza divengono eredi delle promesse.	12 never growing careless, but taking as your model those who by their faith and perseverance are heirsof the promises.
13 Quando infatti Dio fece la promessa ad Abramo, non potendo giurare per uno superiore a sé, 'giurò per se stesso',	13 When God made the promise to Abraham, he swore by his own self, since there was no one greaterhe could swear by:
14 dicendo: 'Ti benedirò e ti moltiplicherò molto'.	14 I will shower blessings on you and give you many descendants.
15 Così, avendo perseverato, Abramo conseguì la promessa.	15 Because of that, Abraham persevered and received fulfilment of the promise.
16 Gli uomini infatti giurano per qualcuno maggiore di loro e per loro il giuramento è una garanzia che pone fine ad ogni controversia.	16 Human beings, of course, swear an oath by something greater than themselves, and between them,confirmation by an oath puts an end to al dispute.
17 Perciò Dio, volendo mostrare più chiaramente agli eredi della promessa l'irrevocabilità della sua decisione, intervenne con un giuramento	17 In the same way, when God wanted to show the heirs of the promise even more clearly howunalterable his plan was, he conveyed it by an oath
18 perché grazie a due atti irrevocabili, nei quali è impossibile che Dio mentisca, noi che abbiamo cercato rifugio in lui avessimo un grande incoraggiamento nell'afferrarci saldamente alla speranza che ci è posta davanti.	18 so that through two unalterable factors in which God could not be lying, we who have fled to him mighthave a vigorous encouragement to grasp the hope held out to us.
19 In essa infatti noi abbiamo come un'àncora della nostra vita, sicura e salda, la quale penetra fin nell'interno del velo del santuario,	19 This is the anchor our souls have, reaching right through inside the curtain
20 dove Gesù è entrato per noi come precursore, essendo divenuto sommo sacerdote 'per sempre alla maniera di Melchìsedek'.	20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever, of theorder of Melchizedek.
