Seconda lettera ai Corinzi 8

1 Vogliamo poi farvi nota, fratelli, la grazia di Dio concessa alle Chiese della Macedonia:	1 And so we are making known to you, brothers, the grace of God that has been given in the churches of Macedonia.
2 nonostante la lunga prova della tribolazione, la loro grande gioia e la loro estrema povertà si sono tramutate nella ricchezza della loro generosità.	2 For within a great experience of tribulation, they have had an abundance of joy, and their profound poverty has only increased the richness of their simplicity.
3 Posso testimoniare infatti che hanno dato secondo i loro mezzi e anche al di là dei loro mezzi, spontaneamente,	3 And I bear witness to them, that they were willing to accept what was in accord with their ability, and even what was beyond their ability.
4 domandandoci con insistenza la grazia di prendere parte a questo servizio a favore dei santi.	4 For they were begging us, with great exhortation, for the grace and the communication of the ministry that is with the saints.
5 Superando anzi le nostre stesse speranze, si sono offerti prima di tutto al Signore e poi a noi, secondo la volontà di Dio;	5 And this is beyond what we had hoped, since they gave themselves, first of all to the Lord, and then also to us, through the will of God,
6 cosicché abbiamo pregato Tito di portare a compimento fra voi quest'opera generosa, dato che lui stesso l'aveva incominciata.	6 so much so that we petitioned Titus, that in the same manner as he had begun, he would also complete in you this same grace.
7 E come vi segnalate in ogni cosa, nella fede, nella parola, nella scienza, in ogni zelo e nella carità che vi abbiamo insegnato, così distinguetevi anche in quest'opera generosa.	7 But, just as in all things you abound in faith and in word and in knowledge and in all solicitude, and even more so in your charity toward us, so also may you abound in this grace.
8 Non dico questo per farvene un comando, ma solo per mettere alla prova la sincerità del vostro amore con la premura verso gli altri.	8 I am speaking, not commanding. But through the solicitude of others, I approve of the good character of your charity.
9 Conoscete infatti la grazia del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo: da ricco che era, si è fatto povero per voi, perché voi diventaste ricchi per mezzo della sua povertà.	9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, he became poor for your sakes, so that through his poverty, you might become rich.
10 E a questo riguardo vi do un consiglio: si tratta di cosa vantaggiosa per voi, che fin dall'anno passato siete stati i primi, non solo a intraprenderla ma a desiderarla.	10 And about this, I give my counsel. For this is useful to those of you who, only a year earlier, had just begun to act, or even to be willing to act.
11 Ora dunque realizzatela, perché come vi fu la prontezza del volere, così anche vi sia il compimento, secondo i vostri mezzi.	11 So, truly now, accomplish this in deed, so that, in the same manner as your willing mind is prompted, you may also act, out of that which you have.
12 Se infatti c'è la buona volontà, essa riesce gradita secondo quello che uno possiede e non secondo quello che non possiede.	12 For when the will is prompted, it receives according to what that person has, not according to what that person does not have.
13 Qui non si tratta infatti di mettere in ristrettezza voi per sollevare gli altri, ma di fare uguaglianza.	13 And it is not that others should be relieved, while you are troubled, but that there should be an equality.
14 Per il momento la vostra abbondanza supplisca alla loro indigenza, perché anche la loro abbondanza supplisca alla vostra indigenza, e vi sia uguaglianza, come sta scritto:	14 In this present time, let your abundance supply their need, so that their abundance may also supply your need, in order that there may be an equality, just as it was written:
15 'Colui che raccolse molto non abbondò, e colui che raccolse poco non ebbe di meno'.	15 “He with more did not have too much; and he with less did not have too little.”
16 Siano pertanto rese grazie a Dio che infonde la medesima sollecitudine per voi nel cuore di Tito!	16 But thanks be to God, who has granted to the heart of Titus, this same solicitude for you.
17 Egli infatti ha accolto il mio invito e ancor più pieno di zelo è partito spontaneamente per venire da voi.	17 For certainly, he accepted the exhortation. But since he was more solicitous, he went to you of his own free will.
18 Con lui abbiamo inviato pure il fratello che ha lode in tutte le Chiese a motivo del vangelo;	18 And we have even sent with him a brother whose praise accompanies the Gospel throughout all the churches.
19 egli è stato designato dalle Chiese come nostro compagno in quest'opera di carità, alla quale ci dedichiamo per la gloria del Signore, e per dimostrare anche l'impulso del nostro cuore.	19 And not only that, but he was also chosen by the churches to be a companion for our sojourn in this grace, which is ministered by us with our determined will, to the glory of the Lord.
20 Con ciò intendiamo evitare che qualcuno possa biasimarci per questa abbondanza che viene da noi amministrata.	20 So let us avoid this, lest anyone disparage us over the abundance that is ministered by us.
21 'Ci preoccupiamo' infatti 'di comportarci bene' non soltanto 'davanti al Signore', ma 'anche' davanti 'agli uomini'.	21 For we provide for what is good, not only in the sight of God, but also in the sight of men.
22 Con loro abbiamo inviato anche il nostro fratello, di cui abbiamo più volte sperimentato lo zelo in molte circostanze; egli è ora più zelante che mai per la grande fiducia che ha in voi.	22 And we have also sent with them our brother, whom we have proven to be frequently solicitous in many matters. But now there is a greater solicitousness, which is greatly entrusted to you;
23 Quanto a Tito, egli è mio compagno e collaboratore presso di voi; quanto ai nostri fratelli, essi sono delegati delle Chiese e gloria di Cristo.	23 and whether it concerns Titus, who is a companion to me and a helper to you, or whether it concerns our brothers, the Apostles of the churches, it is to the glory of Christ.
24 Date dunque a loro la prova del vostro affetto e della legittimità del nostro vanto per voi davanti a tutte le Chiese.	24 Therefore, in the sight of the churches, show them the proof of your charity and of our glorying about you.
