BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il re Nabucodònosor aveva fatto costruire una statua d'oro, alta sessanta cubiti e larga sei, e l'aveva fatta erigere nella pianura di Dura, nella provincia di Babilonia.	1 King Nebuchadnezzar had a golden statue made, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide, which he set upon the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
2 Quindi il re Nabucodònosor aveva convocato i sàtrapi, i prefetti, i governatori, i consiglieri, i tesorieri, i giudici, i questori e tutte le alte autorità delle province, perché presenziassero all'inaugurazione della statua che il re Nabucodònosor aveva fatto erigere.	2 King Nebuchadnezzar then summoned the satraps, magistrates, governors, counsel ors, treasurers,judges, lawyers, and al the provincial authorities to assemble and attend the dedication of the statue set up byKing Nebuchadnezzar.
3 I sàtrapi, i prefetti, i governatori, i consiglieri, i tesorieri, i giudici, i questori e tutte le alte autorità delle province vennero all'inaugurazione della statua. Essi si disposero davanti alla statua fatta erigere dal re.	3 Satraps, magistrates, governors, counsel ors, treasurers, judges, lawyers and al the provincialauthorities then assembled for the dedication of the statue set up by King Nebuchadnezzar and stood in front ofthe statue which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
4 Un banditore gridò ad alta voce: "Popoli, nazioni e lingue, a voi è rivolto questo proclama:	4 A herald then loudly proclaimed: 'Peoples, nations, languages! Thus are you commanded:
5 Quando voi udirete il suono del corno, del flauto, della cetra, dell'arpicordo, del salterio, della zampogna, e d'ogni specie di strumenti musicali, vi prostrerete e adorerete la statua d'oro, che il re Nabucodònosor ha fatto innalzare.	5 the moment you hear the sound of horn, pipe, lyre, zither, harp, bagpipe and every other kind ofinstrument, you wil prostrate yourselves and worship the golden statue set up by King Nebuchadnezzar.
6 Chiunque non si prostrerà alla statua, in quel medesimo istante sarà gettato in mezzo ad una fornace di fuoco ardente".	6 Anyone who does not prostrate himself and worship wil immediately be thrown into the burning fieryfurnace.'
7 Perciò tutti i popoli, nazioni e lingue, in quell'istante che ebbero udito il suono del corno, del flauto, dell'arpicordo, del salterio e di ogni specie di strumenti musicali, si prostrarono e adorarono la statua d'oro, che il re Nabucodònosor aveva fatto innalzare.	7 And so, the instant al the peoples heard the sound of horn, pipe, lyre, zither, harp, bagpipe and al theother instruments, al the peoples, nations and languages prostrated themselves and worshipped the statue setup by King Nebuchadnezzar.
8 Però in quel momento alcuni Caldei si fecero avanti per accusare i Giudei	8 Some Chaldaeans then came forward and maliciously accused the Jews.
9 e andarono a dire al re Nabucodònosor: "Re, vivi per sempre!	9 They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, 'May Your Majesty live for ever!
10 Tu hai decretato, o re, che chiunque avrà udito il suono del corno, del flauto, della cetra, dell'arpicordo, del salterio, della zampogna e d'ogni specie di strumenti musicali, si deve prostrare e adorare la statua d'oro:	10 You have issued a decree, Your Majesty, to the effect that everyone on hearing the sound of horn,pipe, lyre, zither, harp, bagpipe and every other kind of instrument is to prostrate himself and worship the goldenstatue;
11 chiunque non si prostrerà per adorarla, sia gettato in mezzo ad una fornace con il fuoco acceso.	11 and that anyone who does not prostrate himself and worship is to be thrown into the burning fieryfurnace.
12 Ora, ci sono alcuni Giudei, ai quali hai affidato gli affari della provincia di Babilonia, cioè Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego, che non ti obbediscono, re: non servono i tuoi dèi e non adorano la statua d'oro che tu hai fatto innalzare".	12 Now, there are certain Jews to whom you have entrusted the affairs of the province of Babylon:Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego; these men have ignored your command, Your Majesty; they do not serveyour gods, and refuse to worship the golden statue you have set up.'
13 Allora Nabucodònosor, sdegnato, comandò che gli si conducessero Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego, e questi comparvero alla presenza del re.	13 Shaking with fury, Nebuchadnezzar sent for Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego. The men wereimmediately brought before the king.
14 Nabucodònosor disse loro: "È vero, Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego, che voi non servite i miei dèi e non adorate la statua d'oro che io ho fatto innalzare?	14 Nebuchadnezzar addressed them, 'Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego, is it true that you do notserve my gods, and that you refuse to worship the golden statue I have set up?
15 Ora, se voi sarete pronti, quando udirete il suono del corno, del flauto, della cetra, dell'arpicordo, del salterio, della zampogna e d'ogni specie di strumenti musicali, a prostrarvi e adorare la statua che io ho fatta, bene; altrimenti in quel medesimo istante sarete gettati in mezzo ad una fornace dal fuoco ardente. Qual Dio vi potrà liberare dalla mia mano?".	15 When you hear the sound of horn, pipe, lyre, zither, harp, bagpipe and every other kind of instrument,are you prepared to prostrate yourselves and worship the statue I have made? If you refuse to worship it, youwil be thrown forthwith into the burning fiery furnace; then which of the gods could save you from my power?'
16 Ma Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego risposero al re Nabucodònosor: "Re, noi non abbiamo bisogno di darti alcuna risposta in proposito;	16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego replied to King Nebuchadnezzar, 'Your question needs noanswer from us:
17 sappi però che il nostro Dio, che serviamo, può liberarci dalla fornace con il fuoco acceso e dalla tua mano, o re.	17 if our God, the one we serve, is able to save us from the burning fiery furnace and from your power,Your Majesty, he wil save us;
18 Ma anche se non ci liberasse, sappi, o re, che noi non serviremo mai i tuoi dèi e non adoreremo la statua d'oro che tu hai eretto".	18 and even if he does not, then you must know, Your Majesty, that we wil not serve your god or worshipthe statue you have set up.'
19 Allora Nabucodònosor, acceso d'ira e con aspetto minaccioso contro Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego, ordinò che si aumentasse il fuoco della fornace sette volte più del solito.	19 This infuriated King Nebuchadnezzar; his expression was changed now as he looked at Shadrach,Meshach and Abed-Nego. He gave orders for the furnace to be made seven times hotter than usual
20 Poi, ad alcuni uomini fra i più forti del suo esercito, comandò di legare Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego e gettarli nella fornace con il fuoco acceso.	20 and commanded certain stalwarts from his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego andthrow them into the burning fiery furnace.
21 Furono infatti legati, vestiti come erano, con i mantelli, calzari, turbanti e tutti i loro abiti e gettati in mezzo alla fornace con il fuoco acceso.	21 They were then bound in their cloaks, trousers, headgear and other garments, and thrown into theburning fiery furnace.
22 Ma quegli uomini, che dietro il severo comando del re avevano acceso al massimo la fornace per gettarvi Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego, rimasero uccisi dalle fiamme,	22 The king's command was so urgent and the heat of the furnace was so fierce, that the men carryingShadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego were burnt to death by the flames from the fire;
23 nel momento stesso che i tre giovani Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego cadevano legati nella fornace con il fuoco acceso.	23 the three men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego fel , bound, into the burning fiery furnace.
24 Essi passeggiavano in mezzo alle fiamme, lodavano Dio e benedicevano il Signore.	24 And they walked in the heart of the flames, praising God and blessing the Lord.
25 Azaria, alzatosi, fece questa preghiera in mezzo al fuoco e aprendo la bocca disse:	25 Azariah stood in the heart of the fire, praying aloud thus:
26 "Benedetto sei tu, Signore Dio dei nostri padri; degno di lode e glorioso è il tuo nome per sempre.	26 May you be blessed and revered, Lord, God of our ancestors, may your name be held glorious forever.
27 Tu sei giusto in tutto ciò che hai fatto; tutte le tue opere sono vere, rette le tue vie e giusti tutti i tuoi giudizi.	27 For you are upright in al that you have done for us, al your deeds are true, all your ways right, al yourjudgements true.
28 Giusto è stato il tuo giudizio per quanto hai fatto ricadere su di noi e sulla città santa dei nostri padri, Gerusalemme. Con verità e giustizia tu ci hai inflitto tutto questo a causa dei nostri peccati,	28 True is the sentence you have given in al that you have brought down on us and on Jerusalem, theholy city of our ancestors, for you have treated us rightly and truly, as our sins deserve.
29 poiché noi abbiamo peccato, abbiamo agito da iniqui, allontanandoci da te, abbiamo mancato in ogni modo. Non abbiamo obbedito ai tuoi comandamenti,	29 Yes, we have sinned and committed a crime by deserting you, yes, we have greatly sinned; we havenot listened to your commandments,
30 non li abbiamo osservati, non abbiamo fatto quanto ci avevi ordinato per il nostro bene.	30 we have not observed them, we have not done what you commanded us to do for our own good.
31 Ora quanto hai fatto ricadere su di noi, tutto ciò che ci hai fatto, l'hai fatto con retto giudizio:	31 Yes, al that you have brought down on us, al that you have done to us, you have been ful y justifiedin doing.
32 ci hai dato in potere dei nostri nemici, ingiusti, i peggiori fra gli empi, e di un re iniquo, il più malvagio su tutta la terra.	32 You have handed us over to our enemies, to a lawless people, the worst of the godless, to an unjustking, the worst in the whole world;
33 Ora non osiamo aprire la bocca: disonore e disprezzo sono toccati ai tuoi servi, ai tuoi adoratori.	33 today we have no right to open our mouths, shame and dishonour are the lot of those who serve andworship you.
34 Non ci abbandonare fino in fondo, per amore del tuo nome, non rompere la tua alleanza;	34 Do not abandon us for ever, for the sake of your name; do not repudiate your covenant,
35 non ritirare da noi la tua misericordia, per amore di Abramo tuo amico, di Isacco tuo servo, d'Israele tuo santo,	35 do not withdraw your favour from us, for the sake of Abraham, your friend, of Isaac, your servant, andof Israel, your holy one,
36 ai quali hai parlato, promettendo di moltiplicare la loro stirpe come le stelle del cielo, come la sabbia sulla spiaggia del mare.	36 to whom you promised to make their descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as the grainsof sand on the seashore.
37 Ora invece, Signore, noi siamo diventati più piccoli di qualunque altra nazione, ora siamo umiliati per tutta la terra a causa dei nostri peccati.	37 Lord, we have become the least of al nations, we are put to shame today throughout the world,because of our sins.
38 Ora non abbiamo più né principe, né capo, né profeta, né olocausto, né sacrificio, né oblazione, né incenso, né luogo per presentarti le primiziee trovar misericordia.	38 We now have no leader, no prophet, no prince, no burnt offering, no sacrifice, no oblation, no incense,no place where we can make offerings to you
39 Potessimo esser accolti con il cuore contrito e con lo spirito umiliato, come olocausti di montoni e di tori, come migliaia di grassi agnelli.	39 and win your favour. But may the contrite soul, the humbled spirit, be as acceptable to you
40 Tale sia oggi il nostro sacrificio davanti a te e ti sia gradito, perché non c'è confusione per coloro che confidano in te.	40 as burnt offerings of rams and bullocks, as thousands of fat lambs: such let our sacrifice be to youtoday, and may it please you that we fol ow you whole-heartedly, since those who trust in you wil not beshamed.
41 Ora ti seguiamo con tutto il cuore, ti temiamo e cerchiamo il tuo volto.	41 And now we put our whole heart into fol owing you, into fearing you and seeking your face once more.
42 Fa' con noi secondo la tua clemenza, trattaci secondo la tua benevolenza, secondo la grandezza della tua misericordia.	42 Do not abandon us to shame but treat us in accordance with your gentleness, in accordance with thegreatness of your mercy.
43 Salvaci con i tuoi prodigi, da' gloria, Signore, al tuo nome.	43 Rescue us in accordance with your wonderful deeds and win fresh glory for your name, O Lord.
44 Siano invece confusi quanti fanno il male ai tuoi servi, siano coperti di vergogna con tutta la loro potenza; e sia infranta la loro forza!	44 Confusion seize al who il -treat your servants: may they be covered with shame, deprived of al theirpower, and may their strength be broken.
45 Sappiano che tu sei il Signore, il Dio unico e glorioso su tutta la terra".	45 Let them learn that you alone are God and Lord, glorious over the whole world.
46 I servi del re, che li avevano gettati dentro, non cessarono di aumentare il fuoco nella fornace, con bitume, stoppa, pece e sarmenti.	46 Al this time, the king's servants, who had thrown them into the furnace, had been stoking it with crudeoil, pitch, tow and brushwood
47 La fiamma si alzava quarantanove cubiti sopra la fornace	47 until the flames rose forty-nine cubits above the furnace
48 e uscendo bruciò quei Caldei che si trovavano vicino alla fornace.	48 and, leaping out, burnt those Chaldaeans to death who were standing round it.
49 Ma l'angelo del Signore, che era sceso con Azaria e con i suoi compagni nella fornace, allontanò da loro la fiamma del fuoco	49 But the angel of the Lord came down into the furnace beside Azariah and his companions; he drovethe flames of the fire outwards from the furnace
50 e rese l'interno della fornace come un luogo dove soffiasse un vento pieno di rugiada. Così il fuoco non li toccò affatto, non fece loro alcun male, non diede loro alcuna molestia.	50 and, in the heart of the furnace, wafted a coolness to them as of the breeze and dew, so that the firedid not touch them at al and caused them no pain or distress.
51 Allora quei tre giovani, a una sola voce, si misero a lodare, a glorificare, a benedire Dio nella fornace dicendo:	51 Then al three in unison began to sing, glorifying and blessing God in the furnace, with the words:
52 "Benedetto sei tu, Signore, Dio dei padri nostri, degno di lode e di gloria nei secoli. Benedetto il tuo nome glorioso e santo, degno di lode e di gloria nei secoli.	52 May you be blessed, Lord, God of our ancestors, be praised and extol ed for ever. Blessed be yourglorious and holy name, praised and extol ed for ever.
53 Benedetto sei tu nel tuo tempio santo glorioso, degno di lode e di gloria nei secoli.	53 May you be blessed in the Temple of your sacred glory, exalted and glorified above all for ever:
54 Benedetto sei tu nel trono del tuo regno, degno di lode e di gloria nei secoli.	54 blessed on the throne of your kingdom, exalted above al , glorified for ever:
55 Benedetto sei tu che penetri con lo sguardo gli abissi e siedi sui cherubini, degno di lode e di gloria nei secoli.	55 blessed are you who fathom the abyss, enthroned on the winged creatures, praised and exaltedabove al for ever:
56 Benedetto sei tu nel firmamento del cielo, degno di lode e di gloria nei secoli.	56 blessed in the expanse of the heavens, exalted and glorified for ever.
57 Benedite, opere tutte del Signore, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	57 Bless the Lord, al the Lord's creation: praise and glorify him for ever!
58 Benedite, angeli del Signore, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	58 Bless the Lord, angels of the Lord, praise and glorify him for ever!
59 Benedite, cieli, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	59 Bless the Lord, heavens, praise and glorify him for ever!
60 Benedite, acque tutte, che siete sopra i cieli, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	60 Bless the Lord, al the waters above the heavens, praise and glorify him for ever!

64 Benedite, piogge e rugiade, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	64 Bless the Lord, al rain and dew, praise and glorify him for ever!
65 Benedite, o venti tutti, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	65 Bless the Lord, every wind, praise and glorify him for ever!
66 Benedite, fuoco e calore, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	66 Bless the Lord, fire and heat, praise and glorify him for ever!
67 Benedite, freddo e caldo, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	67 Bless the Lord, cold and warmth, praise and glorify him for ever!
68 Benedite, rugiada e brina, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	68 Bless the Lord, dew and snow-storm, praise and glorify him for ever!
69 Benedite, gelo e freddo, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	69 Bless the Lord, frost and cold, praise and glorify him for ever!
70 Benedite, ghiacci e nevi, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	70 Bless the Lord, ice and snow, praise and glorify him for ever!
71 Benedite, notti e giorni, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	71 Bless the Lord, nights and days, praise and glorify him for ever!
72 Benedite, luce e tenebre, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	72 Bless the Lord, light and darkness, praise and glorify him for ever!
73 Benedite, folgori e nubi, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	73 Bless the Lord, lightning and cloud, praise and glorify him for ever!
74 Benedica la terra il Signore, lo lodi e lo esalti nei secoli.	74 Let the earth bless the Lord: praise and glorify him for ever!
75 Benedite, monti e colline, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	75 Bless the Lord, mountains and hills, praise and glorify him for ever!
76 Benedite, creature tutte che germinate sulla terra, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	76 Bless the Lord, every plant that grows, praise and glorify him for ever!
77 Benedite, sorgenti, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	77 Bless the Lord, springs of water, praise and glorify him for ever!
78 Benedite, mari e fiumi, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	78 Bless the Lord, seas and rivers, praise and glorify him for ever!
79 Benedite, mostri marini e quanto si muove nell'acqua, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	79 Bless the Lord, whales, and everything that moves in the waters, praise and glorify him for ever!
80 Benedite, uccelli tutti dell'aria, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	80 Bless the Lord, every kind of bird, praise and glorify him for ever!
81 Benedite, animali tutti, selvaggi e domestici, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	81 Bless the Lord, al animals wild and tame, praise and glorify him for ever!
82 Benedite, figli dell'uomo, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	82 Bless the Lord, al the human race: praise and glorify him for ever!
83 Benedica Israele il Signore, lo lodi e lo esalti nei secoli.	83 Bless the Lord, O Israel, praise and glorify him for ever!
84 Benedite, sacerdoti del Signore, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	84 Bless the Lord, priests, praise and glorify him for ever!
85 Benedite, o servi del Signore, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	85 Bless the Lord, his servants, praise and glorify him for ever!
86 Benedite, spiriti e anime dei giusti, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	86 Bless the Lord, spirits and souls of the upright, praise and glorify him for ever!
87 Benedite, pii e umili di cuore, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli.	87 Bless the Lord, faithful, humble-hearted people, praise and glorify him for ever!
88 Benedite, Anania, Azaria e Misaele, il Signore, lodatelo ed esaltatelo nei secoli, perché ci ha liberati dagl'inferi, e salvati dalla mano della morte, ci ha scampati di mezzo alla fiamma ardente, ci ha liberati dal fuoco.	88 Hananiah, Azariah and Mishael, bless the Lord, praise and glorify him for ever!-For he has rescued usfrom the Underworld, he has saved us from the hand of Death, he has snatched us from the burning fieryfurnace, he has drawn us from the heart of the flame!
89 Lodate il Signore, perché egli è buono, perché la sua grazia dura sempre.	89 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his love is everlasting.
90 Benedite, fedeli tutti, il Dio degli dèi, lodatelo e celebratelo, perché la sua grazia dura sempre".	90 Bless the Lord, the God of gods, al who fear him, give praise and thanks to him, for his love iseverlasting!
91 Allora il re Nabucodònosor rimase stupito e alzatosi in fretta si rivolse ai suoi ministri: "Non abbiamo noi gettato tre uomini legati in mezzo al fuoco?". "Certo, o re", risposero.	91 King Nebuchadnezzar sprang to his feet in amazement. He said to his advisers, 'Did we not havethese three men thrown bound into the fire?' They answered the king, 'Certainly, Your Majesty'.
92 Egli soggiunse: "Ecco, io vedo quattro uomini sciolti, i quali camminano in mezzo al fuoco, senza subirne alcun danno; anzi il quarto è simile nell'aspetto a un figlio di dèi".	92 'But', he went on, 'I can see four men walking free in the heart of the fire and quite unharmed! And thefourth looks like a child of the gods!'
93 Allora Nabucodònosor si accostò alla bocca della fornace con il fuoco acceso e prese a dire: "Sadràch, Mesàch, Abdènego, servi del Dio altissimo, uscite, venite fuori". Allora Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego uscirono dal fuoco.	93 Nebuchadnezzar approached the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and said, 'Shadrach, Meshachand Abed-Nego, servants of God Most High, come out, come here!' And from the heart of the fire out cameShadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego.
94 Quindi i satrapi, i prefetti, i governatori e i ministri del re si radunarono e, guardando quegli uomini, videro che sopra i loro corpi il fuoco non aveva avuto nessun potere; che neppure un capello del loro capo era stato bruciato e i loro mantelli non erano stati toccati e neppure l'odore del fuoco era penetrato in essi.	94 The satraps, magistrates, governors, and advisers of the king crowded round the three men toexamine them: the fire had had no effect on their bodies: not a hair of their heads had been singed, their cloakswere not scorched, no smell of burning hung about them. Nebuchadnezzar said,
95 Nabucodònosor prese a dire: "Benedetto il Dio di Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego, il quale ha mandato il suo angelo e ha liberato i servi che hanno confidato in lui; hanno trasgredito il comando del re e hanno esposto i loro corpi per non servire e per non adorare alcun altro dio che il loro Dio.	95 'Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego: he has sent his angel to rescue hisservants who, putting their trust in him, defied the order of the king, and preferred to forfeit their bodies ratherthan serve or worship any god but their God.
96 Perciò io decreto che chiunque, a qualsiasi popolo, nazione o lingua appartenga, proferirà offesa contro il Dio di Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego, sia tagliato a pezzi e la sua casa sia ridotta a un mucchio di rovine, poiché nessun altro dio può in tal maniera liberare".	96 I therefore decree as fol ows, "Peoples, nations, and languages! Let any of you speak disrespectful yof the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego, and I shal have him torn limb from limb and his house turnedinto a dunghil ; for there is no other god who can save like this." '
97 Da allora il re promosse Sadràch, Mesàch e Abdènego a cariche pubbliche nella provincia di Babilonia.	97 The king then showered favours on Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon.
