Job 12

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Job respondió, diciendo:	1 Job spoke next. He said:
2 ¡Realmente, ustedes son la voz del pueblo y junto con ustedes morirá la sabiduría!	2 Doubtless, you are the voice of the people, and when you die, wisdom wil die with you!
3 Pero yo también, como ustedes, soy capaz de entender, no estoy en nada por debajo de ustedes; ¿o acaso hay alguien que ignore estas cosas?	3 But I have a brain, as well as you, I am in no way inferior to you, and who, in any case, does not know al that?
4 El que invoca a Dios para que él le responda, ha llegado a ser la irrisión de sus amigos: ¡el justo, el perfecto, es un motivo de irrisión!	4 Anyone becomes a laughing-stock to his friends if he cries to God and expects an answer. Peoplelaugh at anyone who has integrity and is upright.
5 «¡A la desgracia, el desprecio –así opina la gente feliz– un golpe más para el que se tambalea!».	5 'Add insult to injury,' think the prosperous, 'strike the fel ow now that he is staggering!'
6 Las carpas de los salteadores están en paz; hay seguridad para los que provocan a Dios, para el que tiene a Dios en un puño.	6 And yet the tents of brigands are left in peace: those who provoke God dwel secure and so doesanyone who makes a god of his fist!
7 Pero interroga a las bestias, y te instruirán, a los pájaros del cielo, y te informarán,	7 You have only to ask the cattle, for them to instruct you, and the birds of the sky, for them to informyou.
8 a los reptiles de la tierra, y te enseñarán.	8 The creeping things of earth wil give you lessons, and the fish of the sea provide you an explanation:
9 ¿Quién no sabe, entre todos ellos, que todo esto lo hizo la mano del Señor?	9 there is not one such creature but wil know that the hand of God has arranged things like this!
10 El tiene en su mano la vida de todo viviente y el espíritu de todo ser humano.	10 In his hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of every human being!
11 ¿Acaso el oído no discierne las palabras como el paladar gusta los alimentos?	11 Can the ear not distinguish the value of what is said, just as the palate can tel one food fromanother?
12 En los cabellos blancos está la sabiduría y en la edad avanzada, la inteligencia.	12 Wisdom is found in the old, and discretion comes with great age.
13 Pero con Dios están la sabiduría y el poder, a él pertenecen el consejo y la inteligencia.	13 But in him there is wisdom, and power too, and good counsel no less than discretion.
14 Si él destruye, nadie reconstruye; si aprisiona, nadie puede abrir.	14 What he destroys, no one can rebuild; whom he imprisons, no one can release.
15 Si él retiene las aguas, hay sequía; si las suelta, inundan la tierra.	15 Is there a drought? He has withheld the waters. Do they play havoc on earth? He has let them loose.
16 Con él están la fuerza y la prudencia, a él pertenecen el que yerra y el que hace errar.	16 In him is strength, in him resourcefulness, beguiler and beguiled alike are his.
17 El hace andar descalzos a los consejeros y priva a los jueces de su sano juicio.	17 He robs a country's counsel ors of their wits, turns judges into fools.
18 Desata los cinturones de los reyes y les ata una cuerda a la cintura.	18 He undoes the belts of kings and knots a rope round their waists.
19 Hace andar descalzos a los sacerdotes y derriba a los que están firmemente establecidos.	19 He makes priests walk barefoot, and overthrows the powers that are established.
20 Deja sin habla a los más seguros y priva de la razón a los ancianos.	20 He strikes the most assured of speakers dumb and robs old people of their discretion.
21 Cubre de desprecio a los nobles y afloja el cinturón de los tiranos.	21 He pours contempt on the nobly born, and unbuckles the belt of the strong.
22 Despoja a las profundidades de sus tinieblas y hace salir la oscuridad a la luz	22 He unveils the depths of darkness, brings shadow dark as death to the light.
23 Exalta a las naciones y las hace desaparecer, expande a los pueblos y los suprime.	23 He builds nations up, then ruins them, he makes peoples expand, then suppresses them.
24 Priva de inteligencia a los jefes de la tierra y los hace vagar por un desierto sin caminos:	24 He strips a country's leaders of their judgement, and leaves them to wander in a trackless waste,
25 así andan a tientas en la oscuridad, sin luz, y se tambalean como ebrios.	25 to grope about in unlit darkness, lurching to and fro as though drunk.
