Épître à Philémon 1

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 "Paul, prisonnier du Christ Jésus, et le frère Timothée, à Philémon, notre cher collaborateur,	1 From Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus and from our brother Timothy; to our dear fel ow workerPhilemon,
2 avec Apphia notre soeur, Archippe notre frère d'armes, et l'Eglise qui s'assemble dans ta maison.	2 our sister Apphia, our fellow soldier Archippus and the church that meets in your house.
3 A vous grâce et paix de par Dieu notre Père et le Seigneur Jésus Christ!	3 Grace and the peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 Je rends sans cesse grâces à mon Dieu en faisant mémoire de toi dans mes prières,	4 I always thank my God, mentioning you in my prayers,
5 car j'entends louer ta charité et la foi qui t'anime, tant à l'égard du Seigneur Jésus qu'au bénéfice detous les saints.	5 because I hear of the love and the faith which you have for the Lord Jesus and for al God's holypeople.
6 Puisse cette foi rendre agissant son esprit d'entraide en t'éclairant pleinement sur tout le bien qu'il esten notre pouvoir d'accomplir pour le Christ.	6 I pray that your fel owship in faith may come to expression in ful knowledge of all the good we can dofor Christ.
7 De fait, j'ai eu grande joie et consolation en apprenant ta charité: on me dit, frère, que tu as soulagéle coeur des saints!	7 I have received much joy and encouragement by your love; you have set the hearts of God's holypeople at rest.
8 C'est pourquoi, bien que j'aie dans le Christ tout le franc-parler nécessaire pour te prescrire tondevoir,	8 Therefore, although in Christ I have no hesitations about telling you what your duty is,
9 je préfère invoquer la charité et te présenter une requête. Celui qui va parler, c'est Paul, le vieux Paulet, qui plus est, maintenant le prisonnier du Christ Jésus.	9 I am rather appealing to your love, being what I am, Paul, an old man, and now also a prisoner ofChrist Jesus.
10 La requête est pour mon enfant, que j'ai engendré dans les chaînes, cet Onésime,	10 I am appealing to you for a child of mine, whose father I became while wearing these chains: I meanOnesimus.
11 qui jadis ne te fut guère utile, mais qui désormais te sera bien utile, comme il l'est devenu pour moi.	11 He was of no use to you before, but now he is useful both to you and to me.
12 Je te le renvoie, et lui, c'est comme mon propre coeur.	12 I am sending him back to you -- that is to say, sending you my own heart.
13 Je désirais le retenir près de moi, pour qu'il me servît en ton nom dans ces chaînes que me vautl'Evangile;	13 I should have liked to keep him with me; he could have been a substitute for you, to help me while Iam in the chains that the gospel has brought me.
14 cependant je n'ai rien voulu faire sans ton assentiment, pour que ce bienfait ne parût pas t'êtreimposé, mais qu'il vînt de ton bon gré.	14 However, I did not want to do anything without your consent; it would have been forcing your act ofkindness, which should be spontaneous.
15 Peut-être aussi Onésime ne t'a-t-il été retiré pour un temps qu'afin de t'être rendu pour l'éternité,	15 I suppose you have been deprived of Onesimus for a time, merely so that you could have him backfor ever,
16 non plus comme un esclave, mais bien mieux qu'un esclave, comme un frère très cher: il l'estgrandement pour moi, combien plus va-t-il l'être pour toi, et selon le monde et selon le Seigneur!	16 no longer as a slave, but something much better than a slave, a dear brother; especial y dear to me,but how much more to you, both on the natural plane and in the Lord.
17 Si donc tu as égard aux liens qui nous unissent, reçois-le comme si c'était moi.	17 So if you grant me any fel owship with yourself, welcome him as you would me;
18 Et s'il t'a fait du tort ou te doit quelque chose, mets cela sur mon compte.	18 if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, put it down to my account.
19 Moi, Paul, je m'y engage de ma propre écriture: c'est moi qui réglerai... Pour ne rien dire de la dettequi t'oblige toujours à mon endroit, et qui est toi-même!	19 I am writing this in my own hand: I, Paul, shal pay it back -- I make no mention of a further debt, thatyou owe your very self to me!
20 Allons, frère, j'attends de toi ce service dans le Seigneur; soulage mon coeur dans le Christ.	20 Wel then, brother, I am counting on you, in the Lord; set my heart at rest, in Christ.
21 Je t'écris avec pleine confiance en ta docilité: je sais bien que tu feras plus encore que je nedemande.	21 I am writing with complete confidence in your compliance, sure that you wil do even more than I ask.
22 Avec cela, prépare-moi un gîte; j'espère en effet que, grâce à vos prières, je vais vous être rendu.	22 There is another thing: wil you get a place ready for me to stay in? I am hoping through your prayersto be restored to you.
23 Tu as les salutations d'Epaphras, mon compagnon de captivité dans le Christ Jésus,	23 Epaphras, a prisoner with me in Christ Jesus, sends his greetings;
24 ainsi que de Marc, Aristarque, Démas et Luc, mes collaborateurs.	24 so do my fellow-workers Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke.
