| 1 cf2Le sage recherchera la sagesse de tous les anciens, et il fera son (l') étude des prophètes. | 1 A wise man will seek the wisdom of all the ancients, and he will be occupied in the prophets. |
| 2 Il retiendra les instructions des hommes célèbres, et il pénétrera aussi dans les mystères des paraboles. | 2 He will preserve the words of renowned men, and he will enter with them into the subtleties of parables. |
| 3 Il recherchera (pénétrera) les secrets des proverbes, et il s'entretiendra des (vivra avec les) énigmes des paraboles. | 3 He will search for the hidden meanings of proverbs, and he will become familiar with the mysteries of parables. |
| 4 Il servira au milieu des grands, et il paraîtra en présence du prince (gouverneur). | 4 He will minister in the midst of great men, and he will appear in the sight of the foremost leader. |
| 5 Il passera dans le pays (les terres) des nations étrangères, et il éprouvera ce qui est bien et mal parmi les hommes. | 5 He will pass through the land of foreign nations. For he will test good and evil among men. |
| 6 Il appliquera son cœur à veiller dès le matin auprès du (pour le) Seigneur qui l'a créé, et il priera en présence du Très-Haut (avec instance). | 6 At first light, he will offer his heart with watchfulness to the Lord who made him, and he will pray in the sight of the Most High. |
| 7 Il ouvrira sa bouche pour la prière, et il demandera pardon (avec insistance) pour ses péchés. | 7 He will open his mouth in prayer, and he will make supplication for his offenses. |
| 8 Car si le souverain Seigneur le veut, il le remplira de l'esprit d'intelligence, | 8 For if the great Lord is willing, he will fill him with the Spirit of understanding. |
| 9 et alors il répandra comme la pluie les paroles de sa sagesse, et il glorifiera le Seigneur dans la prière. | 9 And he will send forth the eloquence of his wisdom like rain showers, and in his prayer, he will confess to the Lord. |
| 10 Il (Et le Seigneur) réglera ses conseils et sa doctrine, et il méditera (sur) les secrets de Dieu. | 10 And he will direct his counsel and his discipline, and he will meditate on his mysteries. |
| 11 Il publiera les instructions (la discipline, note) de sa doctrine, et il mettra sa gloire dans la loi de l'alliance du Seigneur. | 11 He will make the discipline of his doctrine clear, and he will glory in the law of the covenant of the Lord. |
| 12 Beaucoup loueront sa sagesse (de concert), et il (elle) ne sera jamais oublié(e). | 12 Many persons will together praise his wisdom, and it will never be abolished, for all ages. |
| 13 Sa mémoire ne s'effacera pas, et son nom sera honoré (répété) de génération en génération. | 13 The memory of him will not fade away, and his name will be sought from generation to generation. |
| 14 Les nations publieront sa sagesse, et l'assemblée célébrera ses louanges. | 14 The peoples will declare his wisdom, and the Church will announce his praise. |
| 15 Tant qu'il vivra, il aura plus de réputation (un nom plus) que mille autres ; et quand il se reposera, ce sera mieux (il sera heureux). | 15 While he remains, he leaves behind a name greater than a thousand, and when he will rest, it will be to his benefit. |
| 16 Je veux encore publier ce que je médite, car je suis rempli comme d'une sainte fureur. | 16 I will meditate further, so that I may explain. For I have been filled with a passion. |
| 17 Une (De vive) voix (elle) me dit : Ecoutez-moi, germes divins, et portez des fruits comme le rosier planté près des eaux courantes. | 17 In a voice, he says: Listen to me, divine fruits. You shall bear fruit, like roses planted beside streams of waters. |
| 18 Répandez une suave odeur comme le Liban. | 18 You shall have a sweet fragrance, like the cedars of Lebanon. |
| 19 Portez des fleurs comme le lis ; exhalez votre parfum, émettez (couvrez-vous) de gracieux rameaux ; chantez un cantique de louange, et bénissez le Seigneur dans ses œuvres. | 19 Blossom with flowers, like the lily, and diffuse a fragrance, and sprout leaves in grace, and give praise with canticles, and bless the Lord in his works. |
| 20 Proclamez la magnificence de son nom, et glorifiez-le par les paroles de vos lèvres, et par les chants (cantique) de votre bouche (vos lèvres), et au son des harpes, et vous le célébrerez en ces termes : | 20 Give magnificence to his name, and confess to him with the voice of your lips and with the canticles of your mouth and with stringed instruments. And in so praising him, you will confess: |
| 21 Les œuvres du Seigneur sont toutes souverainement bonnes (excellentes). | 21 All the works of the Lord are very good. |
| 22 A sa parole l'eau s'est tenue comme un monceau, et à un mot de sa bouche il y a eu comme des réservoirs pour les (d') eaux ; | 22 At his word, the waters stood still, as if piled together. And at the words of his mouth, the waters were contained, as if in basins of water. |
| 23 car à son commandement tout devient favorable (calme), et le salut qu'il donne devient inviolable (n'a pas d'amoindrissement). | 23 For it is made pleasing by his precept, and there is no decrease in his salvation. |
| 24 Les œuvres de toute chair lui sont présentes, et il n'y a rien de caché à ses yeux. | 24 The works of all flesh are in his sight, and there is nothing hidden from his eyes. |
| 25 Son regard s'étend de siècle en siècle, et rien n'est merveilleux devant lui. | 25 His gaze is from eternity to eternity, and nothing is a wonder in his sight. |
| 26 On ne peut pas dire : Qu'est-ce que ceci ? ou : Qu'est-ce que cela ? Car toutes les choses seront appelées (examinées) en leur temps. | 26 Let it not be said: “What is this?” or, “What is that?” For all things will be sought in their time. |
| 27 Sa bénédiction débordera comme un fleuve (a débordé). | 27 His blessing has overflowed like a river. |
| 28 Et comme le déluge a inondé la terre, ainsi sa colère sera le partage des nations qui ne l'ont pas recherché. | 28 In the same way that a flood inundates the dry land, so also will his wrath inherit the peoples that have not sought him. |
| 29 Comme il a changé les eaux en sécheresse (lieu sec) et que la terre a été desséchée, et comme (que) ses voies ont été trouvées droites par les siens (furent dirigées pour leurs voies), ainsi les pécheurs trouvent des sujets de chute dans sa colère. | 29 In the same way that he turned the waters into dry land, and made the earth dry, and just as his ways have been directed for their journey, so also will sinners stumble before his wrath. |
| 30 Les biens ont été créés pour les bons dès le commencement ; de même les biens et les maux ont été créés pour les méchants. | 30 From the beginning, good things were created for those who are good, and similarly, good and evil things are for those who are wicked. |
| 31 Ce qui est de première nécessité pour la vie des hommes, c'est l'eau, le feu, le fer, le sel, le lait, le pain de fleur de farine, le miel, la grappe de raisin, l'huile et les vêtements. | 31 The principal things necessary for the life of men are: water, fire, and iron, salt, milk, and flour for bread, and honey, and the grape cluster, and oil, and clothing. |
| 32 Toutes ces choses sont des biens pour les saints, et elles se change(ro)nt en maux pour les impies et les pécheurs. | 32 All these things will be used for good by those who are holy, but they will be turned to evil use by the impious and by sinners. |
| 33 Il y a des esprits qui ont été créés pour la vengeance, et dans leur fureur ils affermissent (ont augmenté) les tourments. | 33 There are spirits that have been created for vengeance, and they strengthen their torments by their fury. |
| 34 Au temps de la consommation ils déploieront leur force, et ils apaiseront la fureur de celui qui les a créés. | 34 In the time of the consummation, they will pour forth their strength. And they will appease the fury of the One who made them. |
| 35 Le feu, la grêle, la famine (faim) et la mort, toutes ces choses ont été créées pour la vengeance ; | 35 Fire, hail, famine, and death: all these were created for vengeance. |
| 36 comme aussi les dents des bêtes, les scorpions et les serpents, et le glaive (à deux tranchants) qui punit les impies jusqu'à l'extermination. | 36 The teeth of wild beasts, and scorpions, and serpents, and the spear: all these take vengeance upon the impious, unto utter destruction. |
| 37 Toutes ces choses exécutent avec joie les ordres du Seigneur ; elles se tiendront prêtes sur la terre au moment nécessaire, et au temps voulu elles obéiront exactement à (n'oublieront pas) sa parole. | 37 At his command, they will feast. And they will be prepared upon the earth until they are needed. And in their time, they will not ignore his word. |
| 38 C'est pourquoi je me suis affermi dès le commencement (dans ces pensées) ; je les ai considérées et méditées, et je les ai laissées par écrit. | 38 For this reason, from the beginning, I was strengthened, and I have meditated, and I have considered, and I have put these things in writing. |
| 39 Toutes les œuvres du Seigneur sont bonnes, et il produit (mettra) chaque chose (en usage) quand l'heure en est venue (dans son temps). | 39 All the works of the Lord are good, and he will provide for each work in its own hour. |
| 40 On ne peut (Il ne faut) pas dire : Ceci est plus mal que cela ; car toutes choses seront trouvées bonnes en leur temps. | 40 Let it not be said: “This is worse than that.” For all things will be tested in their time. |
| 41 Et maintenant, (ensemble) de tout cœur et de bouche louez et bénissez le nom du Seigneur. | 41 And now, with the whole heart and mouth, give praise to him, and bless the name of the Lord. |
