| 2 Ecoutez, mes enfants (fils), l'ordre (le jugement, note) de votre père, et faites en (observez-le de telle) sorte d'être sauvés. | 2 Sons, listen to the judgment of your father, and act accordingly, so that you may be saved. |
| 3 Car Dieu a rendu le père honorable pour ses enfants (dans les fils), et il a soigneusement affermi sur les fils l'autorité (le jugement) de la mère. | 3 For God has honored the father in the sons, and, when seeking the judgment of the mother, he has confirmed it in the children. |
| 4 Celui qui aime Dieu implorera le pardon de ses péchés, et il s'en abstiendra, et il sera exaucé dans sa prière de chaque jour. | 4 He who loves God will plead with him on behalf of sins, and will keep himself away from sin, and will be heeded in the prayers of his days. |
| 5 Celui qui honore sa mère est comme celui qui amasse un trésor. | 5 And, like one who stores up treasure, so also is he who honors his mother. |
| 6 Celui qui honore son père trouvera la joie dans ses enfants (fils), et il sera exaucé au jour de sa prière. | 6 He who honors his father will find happiness in his own children, and he will be heeded in the day of his prayer. |
| 7 Celui qui honore son père jouira d'une longue vie, et celui qui obéit à son père assistera (fera la consolation de) sa mère. | 7 He who honors his father will live a long life. And he who obeys his father will be a refreshment to his mother. |
| 8 Celui qui craint le Seigneur honore ses parents, et il servira comme des maîtres ceux qui lui ont donné la vie. | 8 He who fears the Lord honors his parents, and he will serve them as masters, for it is they who conceived him. |
| 9 Honore ton père par actions, par paroles et en toute patience, | 9 In word and deed, and in all things, honor your father with patience, |
| 10 afin que sa bénédiction vienne sur toi, et que cette bénédiction demeure jusqu'à la fin (au dernier jour). | 10 so that a blessing may come to you from him, and so that his blessing may remain to the very end. |
| 11 La bénédiction du père affermit la (les) maison(s) des enfants (fils), et la malédiction de la mère la (les) détruit jusqu'aux fondements. | 11 The blessing of the father strengthens the houses of the sons; but the curse of the mother uproots even its foundation. |
| 12 Ne te glorifie pas de ce qui déshonore ton père, car sa honte (confusion) n'est pas ta gloire. | 12 Do not boast in the disgrace of your father; for his shame is not your glory. |
| 13 Le fils (Car l'homme) tire sa gloire de l'honneur de son père, et un père sans honneur est la honte de son fils. | 13 For the glory of a man is from the honor of his father, and a father without honor is a discredit to the son. |
| 14 Mon fils, soutiens la vieillesse de ton père, et ne l'attriste pas durant sa vie. | 14 Son, support your father in his old age, and do not grieve him in his life. |
| 15 Si son esprit s'affaiblit, supporte-le, et ne le méprise pas parce que tu es robuste ; car la charité exercée envers un père ne sera pas mise en oubli. | 15 And if his mind should fail, show kindness; and do not spurn him when you are in your strength. For almsgiving to the father will never be forgotten. |
| 16 Car tu seras récompensé pour avoir supporté le péché de ta mère ; | 16 For even in return for the sin of the mother, good will be repaid to you. |
| 17 (et) tu seras établi dans la justice (te sera bâtie une maison), et Dieu (on) se souviendra de toi au jour de l'affliction, et tes péchés se fondront comme la glace en un temps serein. | 17 And you will be built up in justice, and you will be remembered in the day of tribulation. And your sins will dissolve like ice in warm weather. |
| 18 Combien est infâme (Quelle mauvaise réputation a) celui qui abandonne son père, et combien est maudit de Dieu celui qui irrite sa mère ! | 18 What an evil form has he who forsakes his father! And whoever exasperates his mother is accursed by God. |
| 19 Mon fils, accomplis tes œuvres avec douceur, et tu t'attireras encore plus l'amour des hommes que leur estime. | 19 Son, perform your works in meekness, and you shall be loved beyond the glory of men. |
| 20 Plus tu es grand, plus tu dois t'humilier en toutes choses, et tu trouveras grâce devant Dieu ; | 20 However great you may be, humble yourself in all things, and you will find grace in the presence of God. |
| 21 car Dieu seul possède une (la) grande puissance, et c'est par les humbles qu'il est honoré. | 21 For only the power of God is great, and he is honored by the humble. |
| 22 Ne recherche pas ce qui est au-dessus de toi, et ne scrute pas ce qui surpasse tes forces ; mais pense toujours à ce que Dieu t'a commandé, et n'étends pas ta curiosité à toutes sesœuvres. | 22 You should not seek the things that are too high for you, and you should not examine the things that are beyond your ability. But as for the things that God has entrusted to you, consider these always. But you should not be curious in too many of his works. |
| 23 Car il ne t'est pas nécessaire de voir de tes yeux ce qui est caché. | 23 For it is not necessary for you to see with your own eyes the things that are hidden. |
| 24 Ne scrute pas avec trop d'empressement les choses superflues, et n'étends pas ta curiosité à toutes les (plusieurs)œuvres de Dieu. | 24 In unnecessary matters, do not choose to be an examiner of many different things, and you should not be curious about too many of his works. |
| 25 Car bien des choses qui dépassent l'esprit de l'homme t'ont été révélées. | 25 For many things have been revealed to you, beyond the understanding of men. |
| 26 Beaucoup se sont laissé égarer par leurs fausses opinions, et leurs sentiments (sens) les ont retenus dans la vanité. | 26 Yet uncertainty in these things has also undermined many persons and has detained their minds in vanity. |
| 27 Le cœur dur sera dans le malheur au dernier jour, et celui qui aime le péril y périra. | 27 A hardened heart will have evil in the very end, and he who loves peril will perish in it. |
| 28 Le cœur qui marche par deux voies ne réussira pas, et l'âme corrompue (le pervers de cœur) y trouvera un sujet de chute. | 28 A heart advancing in two directions will not have success, and the depraved heart will be scandalized in this way. |
| 29 Le cœur méchant sera accablé de douleurs, et le pécheur ajoutera péché sur péché. | 29 A wicked heart will be burdened with sorrows, and a sinner will add further sins. |
| 30 Pour l'assemblée des superbes il n'y a(ura) pas de remède, car la tige du péché prend(ra) racine en eux sans qu'ils le remarquent. | 30 The synagogue of the arrogant will not be healed. For the stalk of sinfulness will take root in them, and it will not be understood. |
| 31 Le cœur du sage se manifeste par la (sa) sagesse, et l'oreille vertueuse (bonne) écoutera la sagesse avec une extrême ardeur. | 31 The heart of the wise is understood by wisdom, and a good ear will listen to wisdom with all its desire. |
| 32 Le cœur sage et intelligent s'abstiendra du péché, et il réussira dans lesœuvres de justice. | 32 A wise and understanding heart will abstain from sins, and will have success in works of justice. |
| 33 L'eau éteint le feu ardent, et l'aumône résiste aux péchés. | 33 Water extinguishes a burning fire, and almsgiving withstands sins. |
| 34 Dieu contemple celui qui fait miséricorde (du bien), et il se souvient de lui dans la suite, et celui-là trouvera un appui au temps du malheur (de sa chute). | 34 And God is the watchman for him who repays a kindness. He remembers him afterwards, and in the time of his fall, he will find a firm support. |
