1 Habló Yahveh a Moisés y le dijo:	1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
2 «Haz que los israelitas tomen venganza de los madianitas. Luego irás a reunirte con tu parentela.»	2 “First, avenge the sons of Israel from the Midianites, and then you shall be gathered to your people.”
3 Moisés habló al pueblo y le dijo: «Que se armen algunos de vosotros para la guerra de Yahveh contra Madián, para tomar de Madián la venganza de Yahveh.	3 And immediately Moses said: “Arm the men among you for a battle, so that they may be able to fulfill the retribution of the Lord on the Midianites.
4 Pondréis sobre las armas mil de cada tribu, de todas las tribus de Israel.»	4 Let one thousand men be chosen from each tribe of Israel, who shall be sent to war.”
5 Los millares de Israel suministraron, a razón de mil por cada tribu, 12.000 hombres armados para la guerra.	5 And they gave one thousand from each tribe, that is, twelve thousand foot soldiers for battle.
6 Moisés envió al combate mil por cada tribu, y con ellos a Pinjás, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, que llevaba en su mano los objetos sagrados y las trompetas del clamoreo.	6 And Moses sent them with Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest; also, he delivered to him the holy vessels, and the trumpets to sound.
7 Atacaron a Madián como había mandado Yahveh a Moisés y mataron a todos los varones.	7 And when they had fought against the Midianites and had prevailed, they killed all the men.
8 Mataron también a los reyes de Madián: Eví, Réquem, Sur, Jur y Rebá, cinco reyes madianitas; y a Balaam, hijo de Beor, lo mataron a filo de espada.	8 And they put to death by the sword their kings: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the five leaders of the nation, and also Balaam the son of Beor.
9 Los israelitas hicieron cautivas a las mujeres de Madián y a sus niños y saquearon su ganado, sus rebaños, y todos sus bienes.	9 And they seized their women and little ones, and all their cattle, and all their goods; whatever they were able to have, they despoiled.
10 Dieron fuego a todas las ciudades en que habitaban y a todos sus campamentos.	10 Both their cities and their villages, as well as their fortresses, they burned.
11 Reunieron todo el botín que habían capturado, hombres y bestias,	11 And they carried away prey from everything that they had seized, both of men and of beasts.
12 y llevaron los cautivos, la presa y el botín ante Moisés, ante el sacerdote Eleazar y ante toda la comunidad de los israelitas, al campamento, en las Estepas de Moab, que están cerca del Jordán, a la altura de Jericó.	12 And they led these to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to all the multitude of the sons of Israel. But the remainder of the articles they carried to the camp on the plains of Moab, next to the Jordan, opposite Jericho.
13 Moisés, el sacerdote Eleazar y todos los principales de la comunidad salieron a su encuentro hasta fuera del campamento.	13 Then Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the assembly went out to meet them beyond the camp.
14 Moisés se encolerizó contra los jefes de las tropas, jefes de millar y jefes de cien, que volvían de la expedición guerrera.	14 And Moses, being angry with the leaders of the army, and the tribunes, and the centurions, who had arrived from the battle,
15 Les dijo Moisés: «¿Pero habéis dejado con vida a todas las mujeres?	15 said: “Why have you spared the females?
16 Precisamente ellas fueron las que indujeron a prevaricar contra Yahveh a los israelitas, siguiendo el consejo de Balaam, cuando lo de Peor; por eso azotó la plaga a la comunidad de Yahveh.	16 Are not these the ones who deceived the sons of Israel at the suggestion of Balaam, and who caused you betray the Lord by the sin of Peor, because of which the people also were struck down?
17 Matad, pues, a todos los niños varones. Y a toda mujer que haya conocido varón, que haya dormido con varón, matadla también.	17 Therefore, put to death all of them: whatever is of the male sex, even among the little ones, and cut the throats of those women who have known men by sexual relations.
18 Pero dejad con vida para vosotros a todas las muchachas que no hayan dormido con varón.	18 But the young girls, and all female virgins, reserve for yourselves.
19 Y vosotros, todos los que hayáis matado a alguno y todos los que hayáis tocado a algún muerto, acampad fuera del campamento siete días. Purificaos vosotros y vuestros cautivos, el día tercero y el día séptimo.	19 And remain beyond the camp for seven days. Whoever has killed a man, or who has touched one that was killed, shall be purified on the third day and on the seventh day.
20 Purificad también todos los vestidos, todos los objetos de cuero, todo tejido de pelo de cabra y todo objeto de madera.»	20 And all of the spoils, whether it is a garment, or a vessel, or another useful thing, made from the pelts or hair of goats, or from wood, shall be expiated.”
21 Dijo el sacerdote Eleazar a los hombres de la tropa que habían ido a la guerra: «Este es el precepto de la Ley que ordenó Yahveh a Moisés.	21 Likewise, Eleazar the priest spoke in this manner to the men of the army who had fought: “This is the precept of the law, which the Lord has commanded Moses:
22 El oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, el estaño y el plomo,	22 Gold, and silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin,
23 todo lo que puede pasar por el fuego, lo pasaréis por el fuego y quedará puro. Pero será purificado con las aguas lustrales. Pero todo lo que no pueda pasar por el fuego lo pasaréis por las aguas.»	23 and all that may be able to pass through fire, shall be purified by fire. But whatever is not able to sustain fire shall be sanctified with the waters of expiation.
24 Lavaréis vuestros vestidos el día séptimo y quedaréis puros. Luego podréis entrar en el campamento.	24 And you shall wash your garments on the seventh day, and, after having been purified, you shall enter the camp.”
25 Habló Yahveh a Moisés y le dijo:	25 And the Lord also said to Moses:
26 «Sacad la cuenta, tú, el sacerdote Eleazar y los principales de las familias de la comunidad, del botín y de los cautivos, hombres y bestias.	26 “Take the sum of those things which were captured, from man even to beast, you and Eleazar the priest, and the leaders of the common people.
27 Luego repartirás el botín, la mitad para los combatientes que fueron a la guerra y la otra mitad para toda la comunidad.	27 And you shall divide the prey equally, among those who went out to war and fought, and among the remainder of the multitude.
28 Reservarás para Yahveh, de la parte de los combatientes que fueron a la guerra, uno por cada quinientos, sean hombres, bueyes, asnos u ovejas.	28 And you shall separate a portion for the Lord from the portion of those who fought and were in the battle: one soul out of five hundred, as much from humans, as from oxen and donkeys and sheep.
29 Lo tomarás de la mitad que les corresponde y se lo darás al sacerdote Eleazar, como reserva para Yahveh.	29 And you shall give it to Eleazar the priest, because these are the first-fruits of the Lord.
30 Y de la mitad de los israelitas, uno por cada cincuenta, sean hombres, bueyes, asnos u ovejas, cualquier clase de bestias, y se lo darás a los levitas, que están encargados del ministerio de la Morada de Yahveh.	30 Likewise, from the half of the portion belonging to the sons of Israel, you shall receive the fiftieth head of humans, and of oxen, and donkeys, and sheep, and of all living things, and you shall give these to the Levites who stand watch over the care of the tabernacle of the Lord.”
31 Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar hicieron como había mandado Yahveh a Moisés.	31 And Moses and Eleazar did just as the Lord had instructed.
32 Fue el botín, el remanente de lo que la gente de guerra había saqueado: 675.000 cabezas de ganado lanar,	32 Now the prey which the army had seized was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep,
33 72.000 de vacuno	33 seventy-two thousand oxen,
34 y 61.000 de ganado asnal.	34 sixty-one thousand donkeys,
35 En cuanto a las personas, las mujeres que no habían dormido con varón eran, en total, 32.000.	35 and thirty-two thousand human lives, of the female sex, who had not known men.
36 La mitad correspondiente a los que fueron al combate: 337.500 cabezas de ganado lanar,	36 And one half of the portion was given to those who had been in the battle: three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep.
37 siendo la parte de Yahveh de ganado lanar, 675 cabezas;	37 From these, for the portion of the Lord, there were accounted: six hundred seventy-five sheep;
38 36.000 de vacuno, siendo la parte de Yahveh 72,	38 and from the thirty-six thousand oxen, seventy-two oxen;
39 30.500 de asnal, siendo la parte de Yahveh 61.	39 from the thirty thousand five hundred donkeys, sixty-one donkeys.
40 Las personas eran 16.000, correspondiendo a Yahveh, 32.	40 From the sixteen thousand human souls, there fell to the portion of the Lord thirty-two souls.
41 Moisés dio al sacerdote Eleazar la reserva de Yahveh, como había ordenado Yahveh a Moisés.	41 And Moses delivered the number of the first-fruits of the Lord to Eleazar the priest, just as had been commanded of him,
42 La mitad perteneciente a los israelitas, que había separado Moisés de la de los combatientes,	42 from the one half portion belonging to the sons of Israel, which he had separated from the portion of those who had been in the battle.
43 esta mitad correspondiente a la comunidad era de 337.500 cabezas de ganado lanar;	43 Yet truly, from the one half portion which fell to the remainder of the multitude, that is, from the three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
44 36.000 de vacuno;	44 and from the thirty-six thousand oxen,
45 30.500 de asnal,	45 and from the thirty thousand five hundred donkeys,
46 y 16.000 personas.	46 and from the sixteen thousand persons,
47 Tomó Moisés de la mitad de los israelitas, a razón de uno por cincuenta, hombres y bestias, y se los dio a los levitas, que se encargan del ministerio de la Morada de Yahveh, como había ordenado Yahveh a Moisés.	47 Moses took the fiftieth head, and gave it to the Levites who stand watch at the tabernacle of the Lord, just as the Lord had instructed.
48 Se presentaron ante Moisés los jefes de las tropas de Israel que habían ido a la guerra, jefes de millar y jefes de cien,	48 And when the leaders of the army, and the tribunes, and the centurions had approached Moses, they said:
49 y dijeron a Moisés: «Tus siervos han sacado la cuenta de los combatientes que tenían a sus órdenes, y no falta ni uno.	49 “We, your servants, have taken a census of the number of the fighting men, whom we had under our hand, and indeed not one was lacking.
50 Por eso traemos de ofrenda a Yahveh lo que cada uno de nosotros ha encontrado en objetos de oro, brazaletes, ajorcas, anillos, arracadas y collares, para hacer expiación por nosotros delante de Yahveh.»	50 For this reason, we offer as gifts to the Lord whatever gold each one was able to find amid the spoils, in anklets and arm bands, rings and bracelets, and little chains, so that you may intercede for us to the Lord.”
51 Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron de ellos el oro y las joyas.	51 And Moses and Eleazar the priest received all the gold in its various kinds,
52 El total del oro de la reserva que reservaron para Yahveh, de parte de los jefes de millar y de cien, fue 16.750 siclos.	52 weighing sixteen thousand seven hundred fifty shekels, from the tribunes and the centurions.
53 Los combatientes habían tomado cada uno su botín.	53 For whatever each one had taken away in the spoils was his own.
54 Pero Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron el oro de los jefes de millar y de cien y lo llevaron a la Tienda del Encuentro, para que sirviera ante Yahveh de memorial en favor de los israelitas.	54 And having been accepted, they took it into the tabernacle of the testimony, as a memorial of the sons of Israel before the Lord.
