1 Habló Yahveh a Moisés y le dijo:	1 The LORD said to Moses,
2 «Haz que los israelitas tomen venganza de los madianitas. Luego irás a reunirte con tu parentela.»	2 "Avenge the Israelites on the Midianites, and then you shall be taken to your people."
3 Moisés habló al pueblo y le dijo: «Que se armen algunos de vosotros para la guerra de Yahveh contra Madián, para tomar de Madián la venganza de Yahveh.	3 So Moses told the people, "Select men from your midst and arm them for war, to attack the Midianites and execute the LORD'S vengeance on them.
4 Pondréis sobre las armas mil de cada tribu, de todas las tribus de Israel.»	4 From each of the tribes of Israel you shall send a band of one thousand men to war."
5 Los millares de Israel suministraron, a razón de mil por cada tribu, 12.000 hombres armados para la guerra.	5 From the clans of Israel, therefore, a thousand men of each tribe were levied, so that there were twelve thousand men armed for war.
6 Moisés envió al combate mil por cada tribu, y con ellos a Pinjás, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, que llevaba en su mano los objetos sagrados y las trompetas del clamoreo.	6 Moses sent them out on the campaign, a thousand from each tribe, with Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the priest for the campaign, who had with him the sacred vessels and the trumpets for sounding the alarm.
7 Atacaron a Madián como había mandado Yahveh a Moisés y mataron a todos los varones.	7 They waged war against the Midianites, as the LORD had commanded Moses, and killed every male among them.
8 Mataron también a los reyes de Madián: Eví, Réquem, Sur, Jur y Rebá, cinco reyes madianitas; y a Balaam, hijo de Beor, lo mataron a filo de espada.	8 Besides those slain in battle, they killed the five Midianite kings: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba; and they also executed Balaam, son of Beor, with the sword.
9 Los israelitas hicieron cautivas a las mujeres de Madián y a sus niños y saquearon su ganado, sus rebaños, y todos sus bienes.	9 But the Israelites kept the women of the Midianites with their little ones as captives, and all their herds and flocks and wealth as spoil,
10 Dieron fuego a todas las ciudades en que habitaban y a todos sus campamentos.	10 while they set on fire all the towns where they had settled and all their encampments.
11 Reunieron todo el botín que habían capturado, hombres y bestias,	11 Then they took all the booty, with the people and beasts they had captured, and brought the captives, together with the spoils and booty,
12 y llevaron los cautivos, la presa y el botín ante Moisés, ante el sacerdote Eleazar y ante toda la comunidad de los israelitas, al campamento, en las Estepas de Moab, que están cerca del Jordán, a la altura de Jericó.	12 to Moses and the priest Eleazar and to the Israelite community at their camp on the plains of Moab, along the Jericho stretch of the Jordan.
13 Moisés, el sacerdote Eleazar y todos los principales de la comunidad salieron a su encuentro hasta fuera del campamento.	13 When Moses and the priest Eleazar, with all the princes of the community, went outside the camp to meet them,
14 Moisés se encolerizó contra los jefes de las tropas, jefes de millar y jefes de cien, que volvían de la expedición guerrera.	14 Moses became angry with the officers of the army, the clan and company commanders, who were returning from combat.
15 Les dijo Moisés: «¿Pero habéis dejado con vida a todas las mujeres?	15 "So you have spared all the women!" he exclaimed.
16 Precisamente ellas fueron las que indujeron a prevaricar contra Yahveh a los israelitas, siguiendo el consejo de Balaam, cuando lo de Peor; por eso azotó la plaga a la comunidad de Yahveh.	16 "Why, they are the very ones who on Balaam's advice prompted the unfaithfulness of the Israelites toward the LORD in the Peor affair, which began the slaughter of the LORD'S community.
17 Matad, pues, a todos los niños varones. Y a toda mujer que haya conocido varón, que haya dormido con varón, matadla también.	17 Slay, therefore, every male child and every woman who has had intercourse with a man.
18 Pero dejad con vida para vosotros a todas las muchachas que no hayan dormido con varón.	18 But you may spare and keep for yourselves all girls who had no intercourse with a man.
19 Y vosotros, todos los que hayáis matado a alguno y todos los que hayáis tocado a algún muerto, acampad fuera del campamento siete días. Purificaos vosotros y vuestros cautivos, el día tercero y el día séptimo.	19 "Moreover, you shall stay outside the camp for seven days, and those of you who have slain anyone or touched anyone slain in battle shall purify yourselves on the third and on the seventh day. This applies both to you and to your captives.
20 Purificad también todos los vestidos, todos los objetos de cuero, todo tejido de pelo de cabra y todo objeto de madera.»	20 You shall also purify every article of cloth, leather, goats' hair, or wood."
21 Dijo el sacerdote Eleazar a los hombres de la tropa que habían ido a la guerra: «Este es el precepto de la Ley que ordenó Yahveh a Moisés.	21 Eleazar the priest told the soldiers who had returned from combat: "This is what the law, as prescribed by the LORD to Moses, ordains:
22 El oro, la plata, el bronce, el hierro, el estaño y el plomo,	22 Whatever can stand fire, such as gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin and lead,
23 todo lo que puede pasar por el fuego, lo pasaréis por el fuego y quedará puro. Pero será purificado con las aguas lustrales. Pero todo lo que no pueda pasar por el fuego lo pasaréis por las aguas.»	23 you shall put into the fire, that it may become clean; however, it must also be purified with lustral water. But whatever cannot stand fire you shall put into the water.
24 Lavaréis vuestros vestidos el día séptimo y quedaréis puros. Luego podréis entrar en el campamento.	24 On the seventh day you shall wash your clothes, and then you will again be clean. After that you may enter the camp."
25 Habló Yahveh a Moisés y le dijo:	25 The LORD said to Moses:
26 «Sacad la cuenta, tú, el sacerdote Eleazar y los principales de las familias de la comunidad, del botín y de los cautivos, hombres y bestias.	26 "With the help of the priest Eleazar and of the heads of the ancestral houses, count up all the human captives and the beasts that have been taken;
27 Luego repartirás el botín, la mitad para los combatientes que fueron a la guerra y la otra mitad para toda la comunidad.	27 then divide them evenly, giving half to those who took active part in the war by going out to combat, and half to the rest of the community.
28 Reservarás para Yahveh, de la parte de los combatientes que fueron a la guerra, uno por cada quinientos, sean hombres, bueyes, asnos u ovejas.	28 You shall levy a tax for the LORD on the warriors who went out to combat: one out of every five hundred persons, oxen, asses and sheep
29 Lo tomarás de la mitad que les corresponde y se lo darás al sacerdote Eleazar, como reserva para Yahveh.	29 in their half of the spoil you shall turn over to the priest Eleazar as a contribution to the LORD.
30 Y de la mitad de los israelitas, uno por cada cincuenta, sean hombres, bueyes, asnos u ovejas, cualquier clase de bestias, y se lo darás a los levitas, que están encargados del ministerio de la Morada de Yahveh.	30 From the Israelites' half you shall take one out of every fifty persons, and the same from the different beasts, oxen, asses and sheep, and give them to the Levites, who have charge of the LORD'S Dwelling."
31 Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar hicieron como había mandado Yahveh a Moisés.	31 So Moses and the priest Eleazar did this, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
32 Fue el botín, el remanente de lo que la gente de guerra había saqueado: 675.000 cabezas de ganado lanar,	32 This booty, what was left of the loot which the soldiers had taken, amounted to six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep,
33 72.000 de vacuno	33 seventy-two thousand oxen,
34 y 61.000 de ganado asnal.	34 sixty-one thousand asses,
35 En cuanto a las personas, las mujeres que no habían dormido con varón eran, en total, 32.000.	35 and thirty-two thousand girls who were still virgins.
36 La mitad correspondiente a los que fueron al combate: 337.500 cabezas de ganado lanar,	36 The half that fell to those who had gone out to combat was: three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
37 siendo la parte de Yahveh de ganado lanar, 675 cabezas;	37 of which six hundred and seventy-five fell as tax to the LORD;
38 36.000 de vacuno, siendo la parte de Yahveh 72,	38 thirty-six thousand oxen, of which seventy-two fell as tax to the LORD;
39 30.500 de asnal, siendo la parte de Yahveh 61.	39 thirty thousand five hundred asses, of which sixty-one fell as tax to the LORD;
40 Las personas eran 16.000, correspondiendo a Yahveh, 32.	40 and sixteen thousand persons, of whom thirty-two fell as tax to the LORD.
41 Moisés dio al sacerdote Eleazar la reserva de Yahveh, como había ordenado Yahveh a Moisés.	41 The taxes contributed to the LORD, Moses gave to the priest Eleazar, as the LORD had commanded him.
42 La mitad perteneciente a los israelitas, que había separado Moisés de la de los combatientes,	42 The half for the other Israelites, which fell to the community when Moses had taken it from the soldiers, was:
43 esta mitad correspondiente a la comunidad era de 337.500 cabezas de ganado lanar;	43 three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
44 36.000 de vacuno;	44 thirty-six thousand oxen,
45 30.500 de asnal,	45 thirty thousand five hundred asses,
46 y 16.000 personas.	46 and sixteen thousand persons.
47 Tomó Moisés de la mitad de los israelitas, a razón de uno por cincuenta, hombres y bestias, y se los dio a los levitas, que se encargan del ministerio de la Morada de Yahveh, como había ordenado Yahveh a Moisés.	47 From this, the Israelites' share, Moses, as the LORD had ordered, took one out of every fifty, both of persons and of beasts, and gave them to the Levites, who had charge of the LORD'S Dwelling.
48 Se presentaron ante Moisés los jefes de las tropas de Israel que habían ido a la guerra, jefes de millar y jefes de cien,	48 Then the officers who had been clan and company commanders of the army came up to Moses
49 y dijeron a Moisés: «Tus siervos han sacado la cuenta de los combatientes que tenían a sus órdenes, y no falta ni uno.	49 and said to him, "Your servants have counted up the soldiers under our command, and not one is missing.
50 Por eso traemos de ofrenda a Yahveh lo que cada uno de nosotros ha encontrado en objetos de oro, brazaletes, ajorcas, anillos, arracadas y collares, para hacer expiación por nosotros delante de Yahveh.»	50 So, to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD, each of us will bring as an offering to the LORD some gold article he has picked up, such as an anklet, a bracelet, a ring, an earring, or a necklace."
51 Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron de ellos el oro y las joyas.	51 Moses and the priest Eleazar accepted this gold from them, all of it in well-wrought articles.
52 El total del oro de la reserva que reservaron para Yahveh, de parte de los jefes de millar y de cien, fue 16.750 siclos.	52 The gold that they gave as a contribution to the LORD amounted in all to sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels. This was from the clan and company commanders;
53 Los combatientes habían tomado cada uno su botín.	53 what the common soldiers had looted each one kept for himself.
54 Pero Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron el oro de los jefes de millar y de cien y lo llevaron a la Tienda del Encuentro, para que sirviera ante Yahveh de memorial en favor de los israelitas.	54 Moses, then, and the priest Eleazar accepted the gold from the clan and company commanders, and put it in the meeting tent as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.
