NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
1 That is why al you who are holy brothers and share the same heavenly cal should turn your minds toJesus, the apostle and the high priest of our profession of faith.1 Unde, fratres sancti, vocationis caelestis participes, considerate apostolum et pontificem confessionis nostrae Iesum,
2 He was trustworthy to the one who appointed him, just like Moses, who remained trustworthy in all hishousehold;2 qui fidelis est ei, qui fecit illum, sicut et Moyses in tota domo illius.
3 but he deserves a greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house is more honoured than thehouse itself.3 Amplioris enim gloriae iste prae Moyse dignus est habitus, quanto ampliorem honorem habet quam domus, qui fabricavit illam.
4 Every house is built by someone, of course; but God built everything that exists.4 Omnis namque domus fabricatur ab aliquo; qui autem omnia fabricavit, Deus est.
5 It is true that Moses was trustworthy in the household of God, as a servant is, acting as witness to thethings which were yet to be revealed,5 Et Moyses quidem fidelis erat in tota domo eius tamquam famulus in testimonium eorum, quae dicenda erant,
6 but Christ is trustworthy as a son is, over his household. And we are his household, as long as wefearlessly maintain the hope in which we glory.6 Christus vero tamquam Filius super domum illius; cuius domus sumus nos, si fiduciam et gloriationem spei retineamus.
7 That is why, as the Holy Spirit says: If only you would listen to him today!7 Quapropter, sicut dicit Spiritus Sanctus:
“ Hodie, si vocem eius audieritis,
8 Do not harden your hearts, as at the rebel ion, as at the time of testing in the desert,8 nolite obdurare corda vestra sicut in exacerbatione,
secundum diem tentationis in deserto,
9 when your ancestors chal enged me, and put me to the test, and saw what I could do9 ubi tentaverunt me patres vestri in probatione
et viderunt opera mea
10 for forty years. That was why that generation sickened me and I said, 'Always fickle hearts, thatcannot grasp my ways!'10 quadraginta annos. Propter quod infensus fui generationi huic et dixi: Semper errant corde.
Ipsi autem non cognoverunt vias meas;
11 And then in my anger I swore that they would never enter my place of rest.11 sicut icut iuravi in ira mea:
Non introibunt in requiem meam ”.
12 Take care, brothers, that none of you ever has a wicked heart, so unbelieving as to turn away from theliving God.12 Videte, fratres, ne forte sit in aliquo vestrum cor malum incredulitatis discedendi a Deo vivo,
13 Every day, as long as this today lasts, keep encouraging one another so that none of you is hardenedby the lure of sin,13 sed adhortamini vosmetipsos per singulos dies, donec illud “ hodie ” vocatur, ut non obduretur quis ex vobis fallacia peccati;
14 because we have been granted a share with Christ only if we keep the grasp of our first confidencefirm to the end.14 participes enim Christi effecti sumus, si tamen initium substantiae usque ad finem firmum retineamus,
15 In this saying: If only you would listen to him today; do not harden your hearts, as at the Rebel ion,15 dum dicitur:
“ Hodie, si vocem eius audieritis,
nolite obdurare corda vestra quemadmodum in illa exacerbatione ”.
16 who was it who listened and then rebelled? Surely al those whom Moses led out of Egypt.16 Qui sunt enim qui audientes exacerbaverunt? Nonne universi, qui profecti sunt ab Aegypto per Moysen?
17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Surely with those who sinned and whose dead bodiesfel in the desert.17 Quibus autem infensus fuit quadraginta annos? Nonne illis, qui peccaverunt, quorum membra ceciderunt in deserto?
18 To whom did he swear they would never enter his place of rest? Surely those who would not believe.18 Quibus autem iuravit non introire in requiem ipsius, nisi illis, qui increduli fuerunt?
19 So we see that it was their refusal to believe which prevented them from entering.19 Et videmus quia non potuerunt introire propter incredulitatem.
