Joshua 20

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Yahweh said to Joshua,	1 O Senhor disse a Josué: Dirás aos israelitas:
2 'Speak to the Israelites and say to them, "Choose yourselves the cities of refuge of which I spoke toyou through Moses,	2 separai para vós as cidades de refúgio das quais vos falei por meio de Moisés,
3 to which anyone who has accidental y (unintentional y) kil ed someone else may flee, and which wilserve you as refuge from the avenger of blood.	3 para que nelas se possa refugiar o homicida que tiver matado alguém inadvertidamente, sem querer: elas vos servirão de refúgio contra o vingador do sangue.
4 (The kil er must flee to one of these towns. He will stop at the entrance to the town gate and explain hiscase to the town elders. These wil admit him to their town and assign him a place to live among them.	4 O homicida dirigir-se-á a uma dessas cidades e, parando à entrada da porta, exporá o seu caso aos anciãos da cidade; deste modo o recolherão entre eles na cidade e lhe darão lugar em que habite no meio deles.
5 If the avenger of blood pursues him, they must not hand the kil er over to him, since he has kil ed hisfel ow unintentionally and was not motivated by long-standing hatred for him.	5 Se o vingador do sangue o perseguir, não lhe entregarão o homicida, porque matou inadvertidamente o seu próximo, sem que antes o odiasse.
6 He must stay in this town) until he is brought to trial before the community (until the death of the highpriest then in office. Only then may the kil er go back to his own town and to his own house in the town fromwhich he has fled)."	6 Habitará nessa cidade até que compareça em juízo diante da assembléia, e até que morra o sumo sacerdote que estiver em exercício naquele tempo. Então voltará o homicida para a sua casa, na cidade de onde tinha fugido.
7 For this purpose they designated Kedesh in Galilee, in the highlands of Naphtali, Shechem in thehighlands of Ephraim, and Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah.	7 Designaram Cedes na Galiléia, na montanha de Neftali, Siquém, na montanha de Efraim, e Cariat-Arbé, que é Hebron, na montanha de Judá.
8 On the other, eastern, side of the Jordan opposite Jericho, in the desert of the tableland, they choseBezer of the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan of the tribe ofManasseh.	8 Além do Jordão de Jericó, ao oriente, designaram Bosor, da tribo de Rubem, na planície do deserto; Ramot em Galaad, da tribo de Gad, e Gaulon em Basã, da tribo de Manassés.
9 Such were the towns designated for al the Israelites and for foreigners living among them, so thatanyone who had accidental y kil ed someone could flee there and might escape the hand of the avenger ofblood, until brought to trial before the community.	9 Tais foram as cidades designadas a todos os filhos de Israel, e ao estrangeiro que habitar entre eles, a fim de que aquele que tivesse matado alguém, inadvertidamente, se refugiasse nelas, e não morresse pela mão do vingador do sangue antes de ter comparecido diante da assembléia.
