Joshua 20

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Yahweh said to Joshua,	1 El Señor dijo a Josué:
2 'Speak to the Israelites and say to them, "Choose yourselves the cities of refuge of which I spoke toyou through Moses,	2 «Habla en estos términos a los israelitas: Determinen cuáles serán las ciudades de refugio –esas de las que yo les hablé por medio de Moisés–
3 to which anyone who has accidental y (unintentional y) kil ed someone else may flee, and which wilserve you as refuge from the avenger of blood.	3 para que allí puedan encontrar asilo los homicidas que hayan matado a una persona sin premeditación e inadvertidamente. Así ustedes tendrán un refugio contra el vengador del homicidio.
4 (The kil er must flee to one of these towns. He will stop at the entrance to the town gate and explain hiscase to the town elders. These wil admit him to their town and assign him a place to live among them.	4 El homicida huirá a una de estas ciudades, se detendrá a la entrada de la puerta, y expondrá su caso a los ancianos de la ciudad. Estos lo admitirán, y le asignarán un lugar para que habite con ellos.
5 If the avenger of blood pursues him, they must not hand the kil er over to him, since he has kil ed hisfel ow unintentionally and was not motivated by long-standing hatred for him.	5 Y si el vengador del homicidio lo persigue, no lo pondrán en sus manos, porque mató a su prójimo inadvertidamente, sin haberlo odiado antes.
6 He must stay in this town) until he is brought to trial before the community (until the death of the highpriest then in office. Only then may the kil er go back to his own town and to his own house in the town fromwhich he has fled)."	6 Después de comparecer delante de la comunidad para ser juzgado, el homicida permanecerá en aquella ciudad hasta la muerte del Sumo Sacerdote que esté en funciones en aquellos días. Entonces podrá entrar de nuevo en la ciudad y en su casa, en la ciudad de donde había huido».
7 For this purpose they designated Kedesh in Galilee, in the highlands of Naphtali, Shechem in thehighlands of Ephraim, and Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah.	7 Con este fin, los israelitas consagraron las siguientes ciudades: Quedes, en Galilea, en la montaña de Neftalí; Siquem, en la montaña de Efraím; Quiriat Arba –o sea Hebrón– en la montaña de Judá.
8 On the other, eastern, side of the Jordan opposite Jericho, in the desert of the tableland, they choseBezer of the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan of the tribe ofManasseh.	8 Y al otro lado del Jordán, al este de Jericó, se designó a Béser –de la tribu de Rubén, que estaba situada en el desierto, sobre el altiplano– a Ramot de Galaad, de la tribu de Gad, y a Golán, situada en Basán y perteneciente a la tribu de Manasés.
9 Such were the towns designated for al the Israelites and for foreigners living among them, so thatanyone who had accidental y kil ed someone could flee there and might escape the hand of the avenger ofblood, until brought to trial before the community.	9 Estas fueron las ciudades asignadas a todos los israelitas y a los extranjeros que residían en medio de ellos, para que todo el que matara sin premeditación a una persona pudiera refugiarse en ellas, y así no muriera en manos del vengador del homicidio, antes de comparecer delante de la comunidad.
