Joshua 20

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Yahweh said to Joshua,	1 Yahvé dit à Josué:
2 'Speak to the Israelites and say to them, "Choose yourselves the cities of refuge of which I spoke toyou through Moses,	2 "Parle aux Israélites et dis-leur: Donnez-vous les villes de refuge dont je vous ai parlé parl'intermédiaire de Moïse,
3 to which anyone who has accidental y (unintentional y) kil ed someone else may flee, and which wilserve you as refuge from the avenger of blood.	3 où pourra s'enfuir le meurtrier qui a frappé quelqu'un par inadvertance (involontairement), et quivous serviront de refuge contre le vengeur du sang.
4 (The kil er must flee to one of these towns. He will stop at the entrance to the town gate and explain hiscase to the town elders. These wil admit him to their town and assign him a place to live among them.	4 (C'est donc vers une de ces villes que le meurtrier devra s'enfuir. Il se tiendra à l'entrée de la porte dela ville et exposera son cas aux anciens de la ville. Ceux-ci l'admettront dans leur ville et lui assigneront un lieuoù il habitera parmi eux.
5 If the avenger of blood pursues him, they must not hand the kil er over to him, since he has kil ed hisfel ow unintentionally and was not motivated by long-standing hatred for him.	5 Si le vengeur du sang le poursuit, ils ne livreront pas le meurtrier entre ses mains, car c'estinvolontairement qu'il a frappé son prochain, sans avoir eu contre lui de haine invétérée.
6 He must stay in this town) until he is brought to trial before the community (until the death of the highpriest then in office. Only then may the kil er go back to his own town and to his own house in the town fromwhich he has fled)."	6 Il devra rester dans cette ville) jusqu'à ce qu'il comparaisse en jugement devant la communauté(jusqu'à la mort du grand prêtre en fonction à cette époque. Alors seulement le meurtrier pourra retourner dans saville et sa maison, dans la ville d'où il s'est enfui.)"
7 For this purpose they designated Kedesh in Galilee, in the highlands of Naphtali, Shechem in thehighlands of Ephraim, and Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah.	7 On consacra donc Qédesh en Galilée, dans la montagne de Nephtali, Sichem dans la montagned'Ephraïm, et Qiryat-Arba -- c'est Hébron -- dans la montagne de Juda.
8 On the other, eastern, side of the Jordan opposite Jericho, in the desert of the tableland, they choseBezer of the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan of the tribe ofManasseh.	8 De l'autre côté du Jourdain de Jéricho à l'orient, on désigna dans le désert, sur le plateau, Béçer de latribu de Ruben, Ramot en Galaad, de la tribu de Gad et Golân en Bashân, de la tribu de Manassé.
9 Such were the towns designated for al the Israelites and for foreigners living among them, so thatanyone who had accidental y kil ed someone could flee there and might escape the hand of the avenger ofblood, until brought to trial before the community.	9 Telles furent les villes désignées pour tous les Israélites et pour les étrangers qui résident parmi eux,pour qu'y pût fuir quiconque aurait frappé quelqu'un par inadvertance, et qu'il échappât à la main du vengeur dusang, jusqu'à sa comparution devant la communauté.
