1 Yahweh said to Joshua,	1 E il Signore parlò a Giosuè, e disse: Parla a' figliuoli d'Israele, e di' loro:
2 'Speak to the Israelites and say to them, "Choose yourselves the cities of refuge of which I spoke toyou through Moses,	2 Separate le città pe' fuggiaschi, delle quali io vi parlai per mezzo di Mosè:
3 to which anyone who has accidental y (unintentional y) kil ed someone else may flee, and which wilserve you as refuge from the avenger of blood.	3 Nelle quali chiunque avrà ucciso un uomo senza volerlo possa ricoverarsi: e possa sottrarsi all'ira del prossimo parente, che vuol far vendetta dell'ucciso.
4 (The kil er must flee to one of these towns. He will stop at the entrance to the town gate and explain hiscase to the town elders. These wil admit him to their town and assign him a place to live among them.	4 Quando quegli si sarà ricoverato in una di queste città, si presenterà alla porta della città, ed esporrà a' seniori di quella città le prove di sua innocenza: e dopo questo lo ricetteranno, e gli daran luogo da abitare.
5 If the avenger of blood pursues him, they must not hand the kil er over to him, since he has kil ed hisfel ow unintentionally and was not motivated by long-standing hatred for him.	5 E se il vendicatore dell'ucciso gli terrà dietro, nol daranno nelle mani di lui: perchè egli ha ucciso il suo prossimo per ignoranza, e non è provato ch'ei fosse due giorni, o tre giorni prima suo nemico.
6 He must stay in this town) until he is brought to trial before the community (until the death of the highpriest then in office. Only then may the kil er go back to his own town and to his own house in the town fromwhich he has fled)."	6 E abiterà in quella città, fino a tanto ch’ei comparisca in giudizio per render ragione di quel che ha fatto, e muoia il sommo sacerdote di quel tempo. Allora l’omicida tornerà, e rientrerà nella città, e nella sua casa, donde era fuggito.
7 For this purpose they designated Kedesh in Galilee, in the highlands of Naphtali, Shechem in thehighlands of Ephraim, and Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah.	7 Furono adunque stabilite Cedes nella Galilea sulla montagna di Nephtali, e Sichem sul monte Ephraim, e Cariath-Arbe, o sia Hebron sulle montagne di Giuda.
8 On the other, eastern, side of the Jordan opposite Jericho, in the desert of the tableland, they choseBezer of the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan of the tribe ofManasseh.	8 E di là dal Giordano all'oriente di Gerico stabiliron Bosor, la quale è situata nella pianura del deserto, della tribù di Ruben, e Ramoth in Galaad della tribù di Gad, e Gaulon in Basan della tribù di Manasse.
9 Such were the towns designated for al the Israelites and for foreigners living among them, so thatanyone who had accidental y kil ed someone could flee there and might escape the hand of the avenger ofblood, until brought to trial before the community.	9 Queste città furono stabilite per tutti i figliuoli d'Israele, e pei forestieri abitanti con essi: affinchè in esse si ricoverasse chiunque avesse ucciso un uomo senza volerlo, e non morisse per la mano del parente bramoso di far vendetta del sangue sparso, fino a tanto che quegli comparisse dinanzi al popolo a trattar la sua causa.
