Philippians 1

1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all God's holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, togetherwith their presiding elders and the deacons.	1 פּוֹלוֹס וְטִימוֹתִיּוֹס עַבְדֵי הַמָּשִׁיחַ יֵשׁוּעַ אֶל־כָּל־הַקְּדשִׁים בַּמָּשִׁיחַ יֵשׁוּעַ אֲשֶׁר הֵם בְּפִילִפִּי עִם־הַפְּקִידִים וְהַשַּׁמָּשִׁים
2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	2 חֶסֶד לָכֶם וְשָׁלוֹם מֵאֵת הָאֱלֹהִים אָבִינוּ וַאֲדֹנֵינוּ יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ
3 I thank my God whenever I think of you,	3 אוֹדֶה לֵאלֹהָי מִדֵּי זָכְרִי אֶתְכֶם
4 and every time I pray for you al , I always pray with joy	4 וְתָמִיד בְּכָל־תְּפִלּוֹתַי אֶתְחַנֵּן בְּשִׂמְחָה בְּעַד כֻּלְּכֶם
5 for your partnership in the gospel from the very first day up to the present.	5 עַל־הִתְחַבְּרוּתְכֶם אֶל־הַבְּשׂוֹרָה לְמִן־הַיּוֹם הָרִאשׁוֹן וְעַד־הֵנָּה
6 I am quite confident that the One who began a good work in you wil go on completing it until the Day ofJesus Christ comes.	6 וּבֹטֵחַ אֲנִי כִּי הַמַּתְחִיל בָּכֶם הַמַּעֲשֶׂה הַטּוֹב גַּם־יִגְמְרֶנּוּ עַד־יוֹם יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ
7 It is only right that I should feel like this towards you all, because you have a place in my heart, sinceyou have all shared together in the grace that has been mine, both my chains and my work defending andestablishing the gospel.	7 כַּאֲשֶׁר רָאוּי לִי לַחֲשֹׁב כָּכָה עַל־כֻּלְּכֶם בַּעֲבוּר שְׂאֵתִי אֶתְכֶם בִּלְבָבִי בְּמוֹסֵרַי וּבְהַצְדִּיקִי וּבְחַזְּקִי אֶת־הַבְּשׂוֹרָה בַּאֲשֶׁר כֻּלְּכֶם חֲבֵרַי בֶּחָסֶד
8 For God wil testify for me how much I long for you al with the warm longing of Christ Jesus;	8 כִּי הָאֱלֹהִים לִי לְעֵד אֲשֶׁר לְכֻלְּכֶם נִכְסַפְתִּי בְּאַהֲבַת יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ
9 it is my prayer that your love for one another may grow more and more with the knowledge andcomplete understanding	9 וְעַל־זֹאת מִתְפַּלֵּל אָנֹכִי כִּי־תִרְבֶּה וְתִגְדַּל אַהֲבַתְכֶם בְּהַשְׂכֵּל וּבְכָל־דָּעַת
10 that will help you to come to true discernment, so that you wil be innocent and free of any trace of guiltwhen the Day of Christ comes,	10 לְמַעַן תִּבְחֲנוּ אֶת־הַמֻּבְחָרוֹת וִהְיִיתֶם זַכִּים וּבְלִי מִכְשׁוֹל עַד־יוֹם הַמָּשִׁיחַ
11 entirely fil ed with the fruits of uprightness through Jesus Christ, for the glory and praise of God.	11 מְלֵאִים פְּרִי הַצְּדָקָה עַל־יְדֵי יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ לִכְבוֹד אֱלֹהִים וּתְהִלָּתוֹ
12 Now I want you to realise, brothers, that the circumstances of my present life are helping rather thanhindering the advance of the gospel.	12 וְהִנְנִי מוֹדִיעַ אֶתְכֶם אֶחָי כִּי אֲשֶׁר מְצָאַתְנִי הָיְתָה אַךְ־לְיִתְרוֹן הַבְּשׂוֹרָה
13 My chains in Christ have become wel known not only to al the Praetorium, but to everybody else,	13 עַד אֲשֶׁר נִגְלוּ מוֹסְרוֹתַי בַּמָּשִׁיחַ בְּכָל־שַׁעַר הַמֶּלֶךְ וּלְכֹל הַנִּשְׁאָרִים
14 and so most of the brothers in the Lord have gained confidence from my chains and are getting moreand more daring in announcing the Message without any fear.	14 וְרֹב הָאַחִים בַּאֲדֹנֵינוּ הוֹסִיפוּ אֹמֶץ בְּמוֹסְרוֹתַי וְהִתְחַזְּקוּ יוֹתֵר בִּלְבָבָם לְדַבֵּר אֶת־הַדָּבָר בְּלִי־פָחַד
15 It is true that some of them are preaching Christ out of malice and rivalry; but there are many as welwhose intentions are good;	15 הֵן יֵשׁ מַגִּידִים אֶת־הַמָּשִׁיחַ מִקִּנְאָה וָרִיב וְיֵשׁ מַגִּידִים בְּכַוָּנָה טוֹבָה
16 some are doing it out of love, knowing that I remain firm in my defence of the gospel.	16 אֵלֶּה מִמְּרִיבָה מַגִּידִים אֶת־הַמָּשִׁיחַ לֹא בְלֵב־טָהוֹר כִּי חשְׁבִים לְהוֹסִיף צָרָה עַל־מוֹסֵרָי
17 There are others who are proclaiming Christ out of jealousy, not in sincerity but meaning to add to theweight of my chains.	17 וְאֵלֶּה מֵאַהֲבָה בַּאֲשֶׁר הֵם יֹדְעִים כִּי־נָתוּן אָנֹכִי לְהַצְדִּיק אֶת־הַבְּשׂוֹרָה
18 But what does it matter? Only that in both ways, whether with false motives or true, Christ isproclaimed, and for that I am happy;	18 אַךְ מַה־בְּכָךְ הֲלֹא בְכָל־אוֹפָן אִם בַּעֲלִילָה אוֹ בֶאֱמֶת יֻגַּד הַמָּשִׁיחַ וַאֲנִי הִנְנִי שָׂמֵחַ בָּזֹאת וְגַם אֶשְׂמָח
19 and I shal go on being happy, too, because I know that this is what wil save me, with your prayers andwith the support of the Spirit of Jesus Christ;	19 כִּי יוֹדֵעַ אֲנִי שֶׁתִּהְיֶה־לִּי זֹאת לִישׁוּעָה בִּתְפִלַּתְכֶם וּבְעֶזְרַת רוּחַ יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ
20 al in accordance with my most confident hope and trust that I shal never have to admit defeat, but withcomplete fearlessness I shall go on, so that now, as always, Christ wil be glorified in my body, whether by mylife or my death.	20 וְאוֹחִיל וַאֲקַוֶּה שֶׁלֹּא אֵבוֹשׁ בְּכָל־דָּבָר כִּי אִם־בְּכָל־בִּטָּחוֹן כַּאֲשֶׁר מֵאָז כֵּן גַּם־עַתָּה יִתְגַּדֵּל הַמָּשִׁיחַ בְּגוּפִי אִם־בְּחַיַּי אִם־בְּמוֹתִי
21 Life to me, of course, is Christ, but then death would be a positive gain.	21 כִּי הַמָּשִׁיחַ הוּא חַיָּי וְהַמָּוֶת רֶוַח־לִי
22 On the other hand again, if to be alive in the body gives me an opportunity for fruitful work, I do notknow which I should choose.	22 אוּלָם אִם־לִחְיוֹת בַּבָּשָׂר עוֹד יוֹסִיף־לִי פְּרִי עֲמָלִי אֵין־לִי לְהַגִּיד בְּמָה אֶבְחָר
23 I am caught in this dilemma: I want to be gone and to be with Christ, and this is by far the strongerdesire-	23 כִּי מָשׁוּךְ אֲנִי מִן־הַשְּׁנָיִם נַפְשִׁי אִוְּתָה לְהִפָּטֵר וְלִהְיוֹת עִם־הַמָּשִׁיחַ כִּי־זֶה הַמֻּבְחָר
24 and yet for your sake to stay alive in this body is a more urgent need.	24 אֲבָל לַעֲמֹד עוֹד בַּבָּשָׂר צָרִיךְ יֹתֵר בַּעֲבוּרְכֶם
25 This much I know for certain, that I shal stay and stand by you al , to encourage your advance andyour joy in the faith,	25 וַאֲנִי בֹטֵחַ וְיֹדֵעַ כִּי אִוָּתֵר וְאֶעֱמֹד עִם־כֻּלְּכֶם יָחַד לְאַמֵּץ אֶתְכֶם וּלְהַגְדִּיל שִׂמְחַת אֱמוּנַתְכֶם
26 so that my return to be among you may increase to overflowing your pride in Jesus Christ on myaccount.	26 לְמַעַן תִּרְבֶּה עַל־יָדִי תְּהִלַּתְכֶם בַּמָּשִׁיחַ יֵשׁוּעַ בְּשׁוּבִי לָבוֹא אֲלֵיכֶם
27 But you must always behave in a way that is worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come toyou and see for myself or whether I only hear al about you from a distance, I shall find that you are standing firmand united in spirit, battling, as a team with a single aim, for the faith of the gospel,	27 רַק הִתְנַהֲגוּ כָּרָאוּי לִבְשׂוֹרַת הַמָּשִׁיחַ לְמַעַן אֶשְׁמַע עֲלֵיכֶם אִם־בְּבוֹאִי לִרְאוֹתְכֶם אִם־בִּהְיוֹתִי רָחוֹק כִּי קַיָּמִים אַתֶּם בְּרוּחַ אַחַת וְעֹזְרִים אֹתִי בְּנֶפֶשׁ אַחַת לְהִלָּחֵם בְּעַד אֱמוּנַת הַבְּשׂוֹרָה
28 undismayed by any of your opponents. This will be a clear sign, for them that they are to be lost, andfor you that you are to be saved.	28 וְאֵינְכֶם חֲרֵדִים מְאוּמָה מִפְּנֵי הַמִּתְקוֹמְמִים אֲשֶׁר זֹאת לָהֶם אוֹת לְאָבְדָם וְלָכֶם לִישׁוּעַתְכֶם וּמֵאֵת הָאֱלֹהִים הִיא
29 This comes from God, for you have been granted the privilege for Christ's sake not only of believing inhim but of suffering for him as wel ;	29 כִּי־נִתַּן לָכֶם בְּעַד הַמָּשִׁיחַ לֹא־לְבַד לְהַאֲמִין בּוֹ כִּי אִם־גַּם לְהִתְעַנּוֹת בַּעֲדוֹ
30 you are fighting the same battle which you saw me fighting for him and which you hear I am fightingstill.	30 כִּי גַם־לָכֶם הַמִּלְחָמָה אֲשֶׁר רְאִיתֶם בִּי וַאֲשֶׁר עַתָּה שֹׁמְעִים אַתֶּם עָלָי
