Philippians 1

1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all God's holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, togetherwith their presiding elders and the deacons.	1 Lettre de Paul et de Timothée, serviteurs du Christ Jésus, à vous tous qui, à Philippes, êtes dans le Christ Jésus, à tous les saints avec leurs évêques et leurs diacres.
2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	2 Recevez de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus Christ, la grâce et la paix.
3 I thank my God whenever I think of you,	3 Je rends grâces à Dieu chaque fois que je pense à vous,
4 and every time I pray for you al , I always pray with joy	4 c’est-à-dire dans ma prière pour vous à tout moment. Et ma prière est joyeuse,
5 for your partnership in the gospel from the very first day up to the present.	5 quand je repense à la part que vous avez prise dans l’évangélisation depuis le premier jour jusqu’à maintenant.
6 I am quite confident that the One who began a good work in you wil go on completing it until the Day ofJesus Christ comes.	6 Je suis convaincu que celui qui a commencé chez vous ce bon travail le poursuivra jusqu’au Jour du Seigneur Jésus.
7 It is only right that I should feel like this towards you all, because you have a place in my heart, sinceyou have all shared together in the grace that has been mine, both my chains and my work defending andestablishing the gospel.	7 Et c’est bien ce que je dois espérer pour vous tous, car ici-même, que je sois enchaîné ou occupé à défendre et à affermir l’Évangile, vous m’êtes intérieurement présents, vous partagez tous avec moi cette grâce.
8 For God wil testify for me how much I long for you al with the warm longing of Christ Jesus;	8 Dieu m’est témoin que je pense à vous avec toute la tendresse du Christ Jésus.
9 it is my prayer that your love for one another may grow more and more with the knowledge andcomplete understanding	9 Je voudrais que chez vous l’amour aille en croissant en même temps que la connaissance et la lucidité.
10 that will help you to come to true discernment, so that you wil be innocent and free of any trace of guiltwhen the Day of Christ comes,	10 Je voudrais que vous donniez à chaque chose sa valeur, de façon que vous soyez purs et sans reproche au Jour du Christ,
11 entirely fil ed with the fruits of uprightness through Jesus Christ, for the glory and praise of God.	11 ayant mené à terme grâce au Christ Jésus les fruits de la vie nouvelle. Ce sera pour la gloire de Dieu, et ce sera mon honneur.
12 Now I want you to realise, brothers, that the circumstances of my present life are helping rather thanhindering the advance of the gospel.	12 Frères, je veux que vous le sachiez, mes problèmes ont plutôt fait avancer l’Évangile.
13 My chains in Christ have become wel known not only to al the Praetorium, but to everybody else,	13 Chez les gens du Prétoire et chez les autres, mes chaînes ont fait parler du Christ.
14 and so most of the brothers in the Lord have gained confidence from my chains and are getting moreand more daring in announcing the Message without any fear.	14 Elles ont été un stimulant pour la plupart de nos frères dans le Seigneur, qui sont maintenant plus hardis pour annoncer ouvertement la Parole.
15 It is true that some of them are preaching Christ out of malice and rivalry; but there are many as welwhose intentions are good;	15 Il est vrai que certains le font par envie et pour me faire concurrence, mais d’autres proclament le Christ avec de bonnes intentions.
16 some are doing it out of love, knowing that I remain firm in my defence of the gospel.	16 Ils savent que je suis là pour la cause de l’Évangile, et l’amour les inspire.
17 There are others who are proclaiming Christ out of jealousy, not in sincerity but meaning to add to theweight of my chains.	17 Les premiers, au contraire, annoncent le Christ par esprit de rivalité, et non avec un cœur droit, car ils pensent me rendre ainsi la captivité plus pénible.
18 But what does it matter? Only that in both ways, whether with false motives or true, Christ isproclaimed, and for that I am happy;	18 Mais qu’importe? De toute façon, que l’on soit vrai ou qu’on fasse semblant, le Christ est annoncé et je m’en réjouis. J’ai de quoi me réjouir;
19 and I shal go on being happy, too, because I know that this is what wil save me, with your prayers andwith the support of the Spirit of Jesus Christ;	19 je sais que tout cela se terminera bien pour moi, grâce à votre prière, car l’Esprit de Jésus Christ se surpassera.
20 al in accordance with my most confident hope and trust that I shal never have to admit defeat, but withcomplete fearlessness I shall go on, so that now, as always, Christ wil be glorified in my body, whether by mylife or my death.	20 C’est là mon attente et mon espérance: à la fin je ne serai pas déçu. Au contraire, sans aucun doute, maintenant comme toujours le Christ sera glorifié en ma personne, que je vive ou que je meure.
21 Life to me, of course, is Christ, but then death would be a positive gain.	21 La vie, pour moi, c’est le Christ, et je gagne à mourir.
22 On the other hand again, if to be alive in the body gives me an opportunity for fruitful work, I do notknow which I should choose.	22 Mais aussi, tant que je vis, mon travail rapporte, si bien que je ne sais que choisir.
23 I am caught in this dilemma: I want to be gone and to be with Christ, and this is by far the strongerdesire-	23 Je suis pris entre les deux: j’aimerais larguer les amarres et rejoindre le Christ, ce qui serait bien meilleur.
24 and yet for your sake to stay alive in this body is a more urgent need.	24 Mais pour vous il vaut mieux que je reste en cette vie.
25 This much I know for certain, that I shal stay and stand by you al , to encourage your advance andyour joy in the faith,	25 De fait, je suis convaincu que je resterai. Je vous serai rendu pour votre avantage, et votre foi en sera plus joyeuse.
26 so that my return to be among you may increase to overflowing your pride in Jesus Christ on myaccount.	26 Grâce à moi et à mon retour chez vous, vous vous sentirez encore un peu plus fiers du Christ Jésus.
27 But you must always behave in a way that is worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come toyou and see for myself or whether I only hear al about you from a distance, I shall find that you are standing firmand united in spirit, battling, as a team with a single aim, for the faith of the gospel,	27 Mais conduisez-vous d’une façon digne de l’Évangile du Christ. Soit que je vienne et que je le voie, ou que de loin j’entende parler de vous, maintenez vos rangs: un même esprit et une même ardeur dans le combat pour la foi de l’Évangile.
28 undismayed by any of your opponents. This will be a clear sign, for them that they are to be lost, andfor you that you are to be saved.	28 Ne vous laissez pas impressionner par vos adversaires. On verra là qu’ils vont à leur perte et que vous êtes sauvés, et que vous l’êtes par Dieu.
29 This comes from God, for you have been granted the privilege for Christ's sake not only of believing inhim but of suffering for him as wel ;	29 Car c’est une grâce pour vous que non seulement vous ayez cru au Christ mais aussi que vous ayez à souffrir pour lui
30 you are fighting the same battle which you saw me fighting for him and which you hear I am fightingstill.	30 et que vous ayez à combattre comme vous m’avez vu faire et comme vous entendez dire de moi.
