Philippians 1

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all God's holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, togetherwith their presiding elders and the deacons.	1 Paul et Timothée, serviteurs du Christ Jésus, à tous les saints dans le Christ Jésus qui sont à Philippes, avecleurs épiscopes et leurs diacres.
2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	2 A vous grâce et paix de par Dieu notre Père et le Seigneur Jésus Christ!
3 I thank my God whenever I think of you,	3 Je rends grâces à mon Dieu chaque fois que je fais mémoire de vous,
4 and every time I pray for you al , I always pray with joy	4 en tout temps dans toutes mes prières pour vous tous, prières que je fais avec joie,
5 for your partnership in the gospel from the very first day up to the present.	5 car je me rappelle la part que vous avez prise à l'Evangile depuis le premier jour jusqu'àmaintenant;
6 I am quite confident that the One who began a good work in you wil go on completing it until the Day ofJesus Christ comes.	6 j'en suis bien sûr d'ailleurs, Celui qui a commencé en vous cette oeuvre excellente en poursuivral'accomplissement jusqu'au Jour du Christ Jésus.
7 It is only right that I should feel like this towards you all, because you have a place in my heart, sinceyou have all shared together in the grace that has been mine, both my chains and my work defending andestablishing the gospel.	7 Il n'est que juste pour moi d'avoir ces sentiments à l'égard de vous tous, car je vous porte en moncoeur, vous qui, dans mes chaînes comme dans la défense et l'affermissement de l'Evangile, vous associez tous àma grâce.
8 For God wil testify for me how much I long for you al with the warm longing of Christ Jesus;	8 Oui, Dieu m'est témoin que je vous aime tous tendrement dans le coeur du Christ Jésus!
9 it is my prayer that your love for one another may grow more and more with the knowledge andcomplete understanding	9 Et voici ma prière: que votre charité croissant toujours de plus en plus s'épanche en cette vraiescience et ce tact affiné
10 that will help you to come to true discernment, so that you wil be innocent and free of any trace of guiltwhen the Day of Christ comes,	10 qui vous donneront de discerner le meilleur et de vous rendre purs et sans reproche pour le Jourdu Christ,
11 entirely fil ed with the fruits of uprightness through Jesus Christ, for the glory and praise of God.	11 dans la pleine maturité de ce fruit de justice que nous portons par Jésus Christ, pour la gloire etlouange de Dieu.
12 Now I want you to realise, brothers, that the circumstances of my present life are helping rather thanhindering the advance of the gospel.	12 Je désire que vous le sachiez, frères, mon affaire a tourné plutôt au profit de l'Evangile:
13 My chains in Christ have become wel known not only to al the Praetorium, but to everybody else,	13 en effet, dans tout le Prétoire et partout ailleurs, mes chaînes ont acquis, dans le Christ, unevraie notoriété,
14 and so most of the brothers in the Lord have gained confidence from my chains and are getting moreand more daring in announcing the Message without any fear.	14 et la plupart des frères, enhardis dans le Seigneur du fait même de ces chaînes, redoublent d'unebelle audace à proclamer sans crainte la Parole.
15 It is true that some of them are preaching Christ out of malice and rivalry; but there are many as welwhose intentions are good;	15 Certains, il est vrai, le font par envie, en esprit de rivalité, mais pour les autres, c'est vraimentdans de bons sentiments qu'ils prêchent le Christ.
16 some are doing it out of love, knowing that I remain firm in my defence of the gospel.	16 Ces derniers agissent par charité, sachant bien que je suis voué à défendre ainsi l'Evangile;
17 There are others who are proclaiming Christ out of jealousy, not in sincerity but meaning to add to theweight of my chains.	17 quant aux premiers, c'est par esprit d'intrigue qu'ils annoncent le Christ; leurs intentions ne sontpas pures: ils s'imaginent ainsi aggraver le poids de mes chaînes.
18 But what does it matter? Only that in both ways, whether with false motives or true, Christ isproclaimed, and for that I am happy;	18 Mais qu'importe? Après tout, d'une manière comme de l'autre, hypocrite ou sincère, le Christest annoncé, et je m'en réjouis. Je persisterai même à m'en réjouir,
19 and I shal go on being happy, too, because I know that this is what wil save me, with your prayers andwith the support of the Spirit of Jesus Christ;	19 car je sais que cela servira à mon salut, grâce à vos prières et au secours de l'Esprit de JésusChrist qui me sera fourni;
20 al in accordance with my most confident hope and trust that I shal never have to admit defeat, but withcomplete fearlessness I shall go on, so that now, as always, Christ wil be glorified in my body, whether by mylife or my death.	20 telle est l'attente de mon ardent espoir: rien ne me confondra, je garderai au contraire toute monassurance et, cette fois-ci comme toujours, le Christ sera glorifié dans mon corps, soit que je vive soit que jemeure.
21 Life to me, of course, is Christ, but then death would be a positive gain.	21 Pour moi, certes, la Vie c'est le Christ, et mourir représente un gain.
22 On the other hand again, if to be alive in the body gives me an opportunity for fruitful work, I do notknow which I should choose.	22 Cependant, si la vie dans cette chair doit me permettre encore un fructueux travail, j'hésite àfaire un choix...
23 I am caught in this dilemma: I want to be gone and to be with Christ, and this is by far the strongerdesire-	23 Je me sens pris dans cette alternative: d'une part, j'ai le désir de m'en aller et d'être avec leChrist, ce qui serait, et de beaucoup, bien préférable;
24 and yet for your sake to stay alive in this body is a more urgent need.	24 mais de l'autre, demeurer dans la chair est plus urgent pour votre bien.
25 This much I know for certain, that I shal stay and stand by you al , to encourage your advance andyour joy in the faith,	25 Au fait, ceci me persuade: je sais que je vais rester et demeurer près de vous tous pour votreavancement et la joie de votre foi,
26 so that my return to be among you may increase to overflowing your pride in Jesus Christ on myaccount.	26 afin que mon retour et ma présence parmi vous soient pour vous un nouveau sujet de fiertédans le Christ Jésus.
27 But you must always behave in a way that is worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come toyou and see for myself or whether I only hear al about you from a distance, I shall find that you are standing firmand united in spirit, battling, as a team with a single aim, for the faith of the gospel,	27 Menez seulement une vie digne de l'Evangile du Christ, afin que je constate, si je viens chezvous, ou que j'entende dire, si je reste absent, que vous tenez ferme dans un même esprit, luttant de concert etd'un coeur unanime pour la foi de l'Evangile,
28 undismayed by any of your opponents. This will be a clear sign, for them that they are to be lost, andfor you that you are to be saved.	28 et nullement effrayés par vos adversaires: c'est là un présage certain, pour eux de la ruine etpour vous du salut. Et cela vient de Dieu:
29 This comes from God, for you have been granted the privilege for Christ's sake not only of believing inhim but of suffering for him as wel ;	29 car c'est par sa faveur qu'il vous a été donné, non pas seulement de croire au Christ, maisencore de souffrir pour lui.
30 you are fighting the same battle which you saw me fighting for him and which you hear I am fightingstill.	30 Par là vous menez le même combat que vous m'avez vu soutenir et que, vous le savez, jesoutiens encore.
