NEW JERUSALEMKING JAMES BIBLE
About the gifts of the Spirit, brothers, I want you to be quite certain.1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
You remember that, when you were pagans, you were irresistibly drawn to inarticulate heathen gods.2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
Because of that, I want to make it quite clear to you that no one who says 'A curse on Jesus' can bespeaking in the Spirit of God, and nobody is able to say, 'Jesus is Lord' except in the Holy Spirit.3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
There are many different gifts, but it is always the same Spirit;4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
there are many different ways of serving, but it is always the same Lord.5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
There are many different forms of activity, but in everybody it is the same God who is at work in themal .6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
The particular manifestation of the Spirit granted to each one is to be used for the general good.7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
To one is given from the Spirit the gift of utterance expressing wisdom; to another the gift of utteranceexpressing knowledge, in accordance with the same Spirit;8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
to another, faith, from the same Spirit; and to another, the gifts of healing, through this one Spirit;9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
to another, the working of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, the power of distinguishingspirits; to one, the gift of different tongues and to another, the interpretation of tongues.10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
But at work in al these is one and the same Spirit, distributing them at wil to each individual.11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
For as with the human body which is a unity although it has many parts -- al the parts of the body,though many, stil making up one single body -- so it is with Christ.12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
We were baptised into one body in a single Spirit, Jews as wel as Greeks, slaves as wel as freemen, and we were all given the same Spirit to drink.13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
And indeed the body consists not of one member but of many.14 For the body is not one member, but many.
If the foot were to say, 'I am not a hand and so I do not belong to the body,' it does not belong to thebody any the less for that.15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
Or if the ear were to say, 'I am not an eye, and so I do not belong to the body,' that would not stop itsbelonging to the body.16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
If the whole body were just an eye, how would there be any hearing? If the whole body were hearing,how would there be any smel ing?17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
As it is, God has put al the separate parts into the body as he chose.18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
If they were al the same part, how could it be a body?19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
As it is, the parts are many but the body is one.20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
The eye cannot say to the hand, 'I have no need of you,' and nor can the head say to the feet, 'I haveno need of you.'21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
What is more, it is precisely the parts of the body that seem to be the weakest which are theindispensable ones.22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
It is the parts of the body which we consider least dignified that we surround with the greatest dignity;and our less presentable parts are given greater presentability23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
which our presentable parts do not need. God has composed the body so that greater dignity isgiven to the parts which were without it,24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
and so that there may not be disagreements inside the body but each part may be equal y concernedfor all the others.25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
If one part is hurt, al the parts share its pain. And if one part is honoured, all the parts share its joy.26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
Now Christ's body is yourselves, each of you with a part to play in the whole.27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
And those whom God has appointed in the Church are, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdlyteachers; after them, miraculous powers, then gifts of healing, helpful acts, guidance, various kinds of tongues.28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
Are al of them apostles? Or all prophets? Or all teachers? Or al miracle-workers?29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
Do al have the gifts of healing? Do al of them speak in tongues and al interpret them?30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
Set your mind on the higher gifts. And now I am going to put before you the best way of all.31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
