1 Corinthians 12

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 About the gifts of the Spirit, brothers, I want you to be quite certain.	1 Pour ce qui est des dons spirituels, frères, je ne veux pas vous voir dans l'ignorance.
2 You remember that, when you were pagans, you were irresistibly drawn to inarticulate heathen gods.	2 Quand vous étiez païens, vous le savez, vous étiez entraînés irrésistiblement vers les idolesmuettes.
3 Because of that, I want to make it quite clear to you that no one who says 'A curse on Jesus' can bespeaking in the Spirit of God, and nobody is able to say, 'Jesus is Lord' except in the Holy Spirit.	3 C'est pourquoi, je vous le déclare: personne, parlant avec l'Esprit de Dieu, ne dit: "Anathèmeà Jésus", et nul ne peut dire: "Jésus est Seigneur", s'il n'est avec l'Esprit Saint.
4 There are many different gifts, but it is always the same Spirit;	4 Il y a, certes, diversité de dons spirituels, mais c'est le même Esprit;
5 there are many different ways of serving, but it is always the same Lord.	5 diversité de ministères, mais c'est le même Seigneur;
6 There are many different forms of activity, but in everybody it is the same God who is at work in themal .	6 diversité d'opérations, mais c'est le même Dieu qui opère tout en tous.
7 The particular manifestation of the Spirit granted to each one is to be used for the general good.	7 A chacun la manifestation de l'Esprit est donnée en vue du bien commun.
8 To one is given from the Spirit the gift of utterance expressing wisdom; to another the gift of utteranceexpressing knowledge, in accordance with the same Spirit;	8 A l'un, c'est un discours de sagesse qui est donné par l'Esprit; à tel autre un discours descience, selon le même Esprit;
9 to another, faith, from the same Spirit; and to another, the gifts of healing, through this one Spirit;	9 à un autre la foi, dans le même Esprit; à tel autre les dons de guérisons, dans l'unique Esprit;
10 to another, the working of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, the power of distinguishingspirits; to one, the gift of different tongues and to another, the interpretation of tongues.	10 à tel autre la puissance d'opérer des miracles; à tel autre la prophétie; à tel autre lediscernement des esprits; à un autre les diversités de langues, à tel autre le don de les interpréter.
11 But at work in al these is one and the same Spirit, distributing them at wil to each individual.	11 Mais tout cela, c'est l'unique et même Esprit qui l'opère, distribuant ses dons à chacun enparticulier comme il l'entend.
12 For as with the human body which is a unity although it has many parts -- al the parts of the body,though many, stil making up one single body -- so it is with Christ.	12 De même, en effet, que le corps est un, tout en ayant plusieurs membres, et que tous lesmembres du corps, en dépit de leur pluralité, ne forment qu'un seul corps, ainsi en est-il du Christ.
13 We were baptised into one body in a single Spirit, Jews as wel as Greeks, slaves as wel as freemen, and we were all given the same Spirit to drink.	13 Aussi bien est-ce en un seul Esprit que nous tous avons été baptisés en un seul corps, Juifsou Grecs, esclaves ou hommes libres, et tous nous avons été abreuvés d'un seul Esprit.
14 And indeed the body consists not of one member but of many.	14 Aussi bien le corps n'est-il pas un seul membre, mais plusieurs.
15 If the foot were to say, 'I am not a hand and so I do not belong to the body,' it does not belong to thebody any the less for that.	15 Si le pied disait: "Parce que je ne suis pas la main, je ne suis pas du corps", il n'en serait pasmoins du corps pour cela.
16 Or if the ear were to say, 'I am not an eye, and so I do not belong to the body,' that would not stop itsbelonging to the body.	16 Et si l'oreille disait: "Parce que je ne suis pas l'oeil, je ne suis pas du corps", elle n'en seraitpas moins du corps pour cela.
17 If the whole body were just an eye, how would there be any hearing? If the whole body were hearing,how would there be any smel ing?	17 Si tout le corps était oeil, où serait l'ouïe? Si tout était oreille, où serait l'odorat?
18 As it is, God has put al the separate parts into the body as he chose.	18 Mais, de fait, Dieu a placé les membres, et chacun d'eux dans le corps, selon qu'il a voulu.
19 If they were al the same part, how could it be a body?	19 Si le tout était un seul membre, où serait le corps?
20 As it is, the parts are many but the body is one.	20 Mais, de fait, il y a plusieurs membres, et cependant un seul corps.
21 The eye cannot say to the hand, 'I have no need of you,' and nor can the head say to the feet, 'I haveno need of you.'	21 L'oeil ne peut donc dire à la main: "Je n'ai pas besoin de toi", ni la tête à son tour dire auxpieds: "Je n'ai pas besoin de vous."
22 What is more, it is precisely the parts of the body that seem to be the weakest which are theindispensable ones.	22 Bien plus, les membres du corps qui sont tenus pour plus faibles sont nécessaires;
23 It is the parts of the body which we consider least dignified that we surround with the greatest dignity;and our less presentable parts are given greater presentability	23 et ceux que nous tenons pour les moins honorables du corps sont ceux-là mêmes que nousentourons de plus d'honneur, et ce que nous avons d'indécent, on le traite avec le plus de décence;
24 which our presentable parts do not need. God has composed the body so that greater dignity isgiven to the parts which were without it,	24 ce que nous avons de décent n'en a pas besoin. Mais Dieu a disposé le corps de manière àdonner davantage d'honneur à ce qui en manque,
25 and so that there may not be disagreements inside the body but each part may be equal y concernedfor all the others.	25 pour qu'il n'y ait point de division dans le corps, mais qu'au contraire les membres setémoignent une mutuelle sollicitude.
26 If one part is hurt, al the parts share its pain. And if one part is honoured, all the parts share its joy.	26 Un membre souffre-t-il? Tous les membres souffrent avec lui. Un membre est-il àl'honneur? Tous les membres se réjouissent avec lui.
27 Now Christ's body is yourselves, each of you with a part to play in the whole.	27 Or vous êtes, vous, le corps du Christ, et membres chacun pour sa part.
28 And those whom God has appointed in the Church are, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdlyteachers; after them, miraculous powers, then gifts of healing, helpful acts, guidance, various kinds of tongues.	28 Et ceux que Dieu a établis dans l'Eglise sont premièrement les apôtres, deuxièmement lesprophètes, troisièmement les docteurs... Puis il y a les miracles, puis les dons de guérisons, d'assistance, degouvernement, les diversités de langues.
29 Are al of them apostles? Or all prophets? Or all teachers? Or al miracle-workers?	29 Tous sont-ils apôtres? Tous prophètes? Tous docteurs? Tous font-ils des miracles?
30 Do al have the gifts of healing? Do al of them speak in tongues and al interpret them?	30 Tous ont-ils des dons de guérisons? Tous parlent-ils en langues? Tous interprètent-ils?
31 Set your mind on the higher gifts. And now I am going to put before you the best way of all.	31 Aspirez aux dons supérieurs. Et je vais encore vous montrer une voie qui les dépasse toutes.
