1 Is there any benefit, then, in being a Jew? Is there any advantage in being circumcised?	1 Que tem, pois, a mais o judeu? Ou qual é a utilidade da circuncisão?
2 A great deal, in every way. First of al , it was to the Jews that the message of God was entrusted.	2 Muita (vantagem têm os Judeus sobre os gentios) de toda a maneira. Principalmente porque lhes foram confiados os oráculos de Deus.
3 What if some of them were unfaithful? Do you think their lack of faith could cancel God's faithfulness?	3 Que importa se alguns deles não creram? Porventura a sua incredulidade destruirá a fidelidade de Deus? Não, certamente.
4 Out of the question! God wil always be true even if no human being can be relied on. As scripturesays: That you may show your saving justice when you pass sentence and your victory may appear when yougive judgement.	4 Deus é verdadeiro, e todo o homem é mentiroso, como está escrito: Para que sejas (ó Deus) justificado nas tuas palavras e venças quando fores julgado (Ps. 60, 6).
5 But if our injustice serves to bring God's saving justice into view, can we say that God is unjust when --to use human terms -- he brings his retribution down on us?	5 Se, porém, a nossa injustiça faz brilhar a justiça de Deus, que diremos? Porventura é injusto Deus que castiga?
6 Out of the question! It would mean that God could not be the judge of the world.	6 (Falo à maneira dos homens.) Não, por certo ; doutra maneira, como julgaria Deus este mundo?
7 You might as wel say that if my untruthfulness makes God demonstrate his truthfulness, to his greaterglory, then I should not be judged to be a sinner at al .	7 Com efeito, se a verdade de Deus, pela minha mentira cresceu para glória sua, porque sou eu assim julgado como pecador?
8 In this case, the slanderous report some people are spreading would be true, that we teach that oneshould do evil that good may come of it. In fact such people are justly condemned.	8 E porque e que (como dizem caluniosamente de nós, como alguns afirmam que nós dizemos) não havemos de fazer o mal para que venham bens? Destes é justa a condenação.
9 Wel : are we any better off? Not at al : we have already indicted Jews and Greeks as being al alikeunder the dominion of sin.	9 Que (concluir) pois? Temos alguma vantagem sobre eles? De nenhuma sorte. Porque já demonstramos que Judeus e Gregos estão todos sob o pecado,
10 As scripture says: Not one of them is upright, not a single one,	10 como está escrito: Não há nenhum justo;
11 not a single one is wise, not a single one seeks God.	11 não há quem tenha inteligência, não há quem busque a Deus.
12 Al have turned away, all alike turned sour, not one of them does right, not a single one.	12 Todos se extraviaram, todos à uma se tornaram inúteis, não há quem faça o bem, não há sequer um (8. 14-1-3).
13 Their throats are wide -- open graves, their tongues seductive. Viper's venom behind their lips;	13 A garganta deles é um sepulcro aberto; com as suas línguas tecem enganos. Um veneno de áspides se encobre debaixo dos seus lábios (Ps. 5, 10 ; Ps. 140, 4);
14 their speech is ful of cursing and bitterness.	14 a sua boca está cheia de maldição e de amargura (Ps. 10, 7).
15 Their feet quick to shed innocent blood,	15 Os seus pés são velozes para derramar sangue;
16 wherever they go there is havoc and ruin.	16 a dor e a infelicidade estão nos seus caminhos,
17 They do not know the way of peace,	17 e não conheceram o caminho da paz (Is. 59, 7-8).
18 there is no fear of God before their eyes.	18 Não há temor de Deus diante dos seus olhos (Ps. 36, 2).
19 Now we are wel aware that whatever the Law says is said for those who are subject to the Law, sothat every mouth may be silenced, and the whole world brought under the judgement of God.	19 Ora nós sabemos que tudo aquilo que a lei diz, o diz para aqueles que estão sob a lei, para que toda a boca seja fechada e todo o mundo caia sob a justiça de Deus.
20 So then, no human being can be found upright at the tribunal of God by keeping the Law; al that theLaw does is to tell us what is sinful.	20 Pelas obras da lei não será justificado nenhum homem diante dele. Efetivamente, pela lei vem o conhecimento do pecado.
21 God's saving justice was witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, but now it has been revealedaltogether apart from law:	21 Mas agora manifestou-se sem a lei a justiça de Deus, testificada pela lei e pelos profetas.
22 God's saving justice given through faith in Jesus Christ to al who believe.	22 A justiça de Deus (é infundada) pela fé de Jesus Cristo em todos e sobre todos os que crêem nele, sem distinção,
23 No distinction is made: all have sinned and lack God's glory,	23 porque todos pecaram e estão privados da glória de Deus
24 and all are justified by the free gift of his grace through being set free in Christ Jesus.	24 e são justificados gratuitamente pela sua graça, por meio da redenção, que está em Jesus Cristo,
25 God appointed him as a sacrifice for reconciliation, through faith, by the shedding of his blood, and soshowed his justness; first for the past, when sins went unpunished because he held his hand;	25 a quem Deus pôs, pelo seu sangue derramado, como um meio de propiciação, que opera pela fé, a fim de manifestar a sua justiça, por haver tolerado, com a sua paciência divina os pecados de outrora,
26 and now again for the present age, to show how he is just and justifies everyone who has faith inJesus.	26 a fim de manifestar a sua justiça no tempo presente, de maneira a ser reconhecido justo e fonte de justiça para aquele que tem fé em Jesus Cristo.
27 So what becomes of our boasts? There is no room for them. On what principle- that only actionscount? No; that faith is what counts,	27 Onde está, pois, (ó judeu) a tua glória? Foi excluída. Por que lei? Pela das obras? Não; mas pela lei da fé.
28 since, as we see it, a person is justified by faith and not by doing what the Law tel s him to do.	28 Porquanto sustentamos que o homem é justificado pela fé, sem as obras da lei.
29 Do you think God is the God only of the Jews, and not of gentiles too? Most certainly of gentiles too,	29 Porventura Deus só o é dos Judeus? Não o é ele também dos gentios? Sim, certamente, ele o é também dos gentios,
30 since there is only one God; he will justify the circumcised by their faith, and he will justify theuncircumcised through their faith.	30 porque há um só Deus, que justifica pela fé os circuncidados e que também pela fé justifica os incircuncidados.
31 Are we saying that the Law has been made pointless by faith? Out of the question; we are placing theLaw on its true footing.	31 Destruímos nós, pois, a lei com a fé? Longe disso; antes confirmamos a lei.
