1 Is there any benefit, then, in being a Jew? Is there any advantage in being circumcised?	1 Che ha adunque di più il Giudeo? Od a che giova la circoncisione?
2 A great deal, in every way. First of al , it was to the Jews that the message of God was entrusted.	2 Molto per ogni verso. E principalmente, perché sono stati confidati ad essi gli oracoli di Dio:
3 What if some of them were unfaithful? Do you think their lack of faith could cancel God's faithfulness?	3 Imperocché che importa, che alcuni di essi non abbian creduto? forse che la loro incredulità renderà vana la fedeltà di Dio? Mai no.
4 Out of the question! God wil always be true even if no human being can be relied on. As scripturesays: That you may show your saving justice when you pass sentence and your victory may appear when yougive judgement.	4 Dio è verace: gli uomini poi tutti menzogneri, conforme sta scritto: Onde tu sii giustificato nelle tue parole, e riporti vittoria, quando se' chiamato in giudizio.
5 But if our injustice serves to bring God's saving justice into view, can we say that God is unjust when --to use human terms -- he brings his retribution down on us?	5 Che se l'ingiustizia nostra innalza la giustizia di Dio, che direm noi? E egli ingiusto Dio, che castiga?
6 Out of the question! It would mean that God could not be the judge of the world.	6 (Parlo secondo l'uomo.) Mai no: altrimenti in che modo giudicherà Dio questo mondo?
7 You might as wel say that if my untruthfulness makes God demonstrate his truthfulness, to his greaterglory, then I should not be judged to be a sinner at al .	7 Imperocché se la verità di Dio ridondò in gloria di lui per la mia menzogna: perché son io tuttora giudicato qual peccatore?
8 In this case, the slanderous report some people are spreading would be true, that we teach that oneshould do evil that good may come of it. In fact such people are justly condemned.	8 E perché (come malamente dicono di noi, e come spacciano alcuni, che si dica da noi) non facciamo il male, affinchè ne venga il bene? de' quali è giusta la dannazione.
9 Wel : are we any better off? Not at al : we have already indicted Jews and Greeks as being al alikeunder the dominion of sin.	9 Che è adunque? Siamo noi da più di essi? Certo che no. Imperocché abbiam dimostrato, che e Giudei, e Greci tutti sono sotto il peccato,
10 As scripture says: Not one of them is upright, not a single one,	10 Conforme sta scritto: non v' ha, chi sia giusto:
11 not a single one is wise, not a single one seeks God.	11 Non havvi, chi abbia intelligenza, non v' ha, chi cerchi Dio.
12 Al have turned away, all alike turned sour, not one of them does right, not a single one.	12 Tutti sono usciti di strada, sono insieme diventati inutili, non v'ha chi faccia il bene, non ve n' ha neppur uno.
13 Their throats are wide -- open graves, their tongues seductive. Viper's venom behind their lips;	13 La loro gola è un aperto sepolcro, tessono inganni colle loro lingue: chiudon veleno di aspidi le loro labbra:
14 their speech is ful of cursing and bitterness.	14 La bocca de' quali è ripiena di maledizione, e di amarezza.
15 Their feet quick to shed innocent blood,	15 I loro piedi veloci a spargere il sangue:
16 wherever they go there is havoc and ruin.	16 Nelle loro vie è afflizione, e calamità:
17 They do not know the way of peace,	17 E non han conosciuta la via della pace:
18 there is no fear of God before their eyes.	18 Non è dinanzi a' loro occhi il timore di Dio.
19 Now we are wel aware that whatever the Law says is said for those who are subject to the Law, sothat every mouth may be silenced, and the whole world brought under the judgement of God.	19 Or noi sappiamo, che tutto quel, che dice la legge, per quelli lo dice, che sono sotto la legge: onde si chiuda ogni bocca, e il mondo tutto di condannazione sia degno dinanzi a Dio:
20 So then, no human being can be found upright at the tribunal of God by keeping the Law; al that theLaw does is to tell us what is sinful.	20 Conciossiachè non sarà giustificato dinanzi a lui alcun uomo per le opere della legge. Imperocché dalla legge vien la cognizione del peccato.
21 God's saving justice was witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, but now it has been revealedaltogether apart from law:	21 Adesso poi senza la legge si è manifestata la giustizia di Dio, comprovata dalla legge, e da' profeti.
22 God's saving justice given through faith in Jesus Christ to al who believe.	22 La giustizia di Dio per la fede di Gesù Cristo in tutti, e sopra tutti quelli, che credono in lui: imperocché non v' ha distinzione:
23 No distinction is made: all have sinned and lack God's glory,	23 Imperocché tutti hanno peccato, ed hanno bisogno della gloria di Dio.
24 and all are justified by the free gift of his grace through being set free in Christ Jesus.	24 Sendo giustificati gratuitamente per la grazia di lui, per mezzo della redenzione, che è in Cristo Gesù,
25 God appointed him as a sacrifice for reconciliation, through faith, by the shedding of his blood, and soshowed his justness; first for the past, when sins went unpunished because he held his hand;	25 Il quale da Dio fu preordinato propiziatore in virtù del suo sangue per mezzo della fede, affine di far conoscere la sua giustizia nella remissione de' pre cedenti delitti,
26 and now again for the present age, to show how he is just and justifies everyone who has faith inJesus.	26 Sopportati da Dio fino a che facesse conoscere la sua giustizia nel tempo di adesso: onde sia egli giusto, e giusto faccia, chi ha fede in Gesù Cristo.
27 So what becomes of our boasts? There is no room for them. On what principle- that only actionscount? No; that faith is what counts,	27 Dov'è adunque il tuo vantamento? E tolto via. E per qual legge? Delle opere? No: ma per la legge della fede.
28 since, as we see it, a person is justified by faith and not by doing what the Law tel s him to do.	28 Imperocché concludiamo, che l'uomo è giustificato per mezzo della fede senza le opere della legge.
29 Do you think God is the God only of the Jews, and not of gentiles too? Most certainly of gentiles too,	29 È egli forse Dio de' soli Giudei? non è egli ancor delle genti? Certamente anche delle genti:
30 since there is only one God; he will justify the circumcised by their faith, and he will justify theuncircumcised through their faith.	30 Imperocché uno è Dio, il quale giustifica i circoncisi per mezzo della fede, e gli incirconcisi per mezzo della fede.
31 Are we saying that the Law has been made pointless by faith? Out of the question; we are placing theLaw on its true footing.	31 Distruggiamo noi adunque la legga con la fede? Mai no: anzi confermiamo, la legge.
