1 Is there any benefit, then, in being a Jew? Is there any advantage in being circumcised?	1 Che cosa dunque ha in più il Giudeo? E qual è l’utilità della circoncisione?
2 A great deal, in every way. First of al , it was to the Jews that the message of God was entrusted.	2 Grande, sotto ogni aspetto. Anzitutto perché a loro sono state affidate le parole di Dio.
3 What if some of them were unfaithful? Do you think their lack of faith could cancel God's faithfulness?	3 Che dunque? Se alcuni furono infedeli, la loro infedeltà annullerà forse la fedeltà di Dio?
4 Out of the question! God wil always be true even if no human being can be relied on. As scripturesays: That you may show your saving justice when you pass sentence and your victory may appear when yougive judgement.	4 Impossibile! Sia chiaro invece che Dio è veritiero, mentre ogni uomo è mentitore, come sta scritto: Affinché tu sia riconosciuto giusto nelle tue parole e vinca quando sei giudicato.
5 But if our injustice serves to bring God's saving justice into view, can we say that God is unjust when --to use human terms -- he brings his retribution down on us?	5 Se però la nostra ingiustizia mette in risalto la giustizia di Dio, che diremo? Dio è forse ingiusto quando riversa su di noi la sua ira? Sto parlando alla maniera umana.
6 Out of the question! It would mean that God could not be the judge of the world.	6 Impossibile! Altrimenti, come potrà Dio giudicare il mondo?
7 You might as wel say that if my untruthfulness makes God demonstrate his truthfulness, to his greaterglory, then I should not be judged to be a sinner at al .	7 Ma se la verità di Dio abbondò nella mia menzogna, risplende di più per la sua gloria, perché anch’io sono giudicato ancora come peccatore?
8 In this case, the slanderous report some people are spreading would be true, that we teach that oneshould do evil that good may come of it. In fact such people are justly condemned.	8 E non è come alcuni ci fanno dire: «Facciamo il male perché ne venga il bene»; essi ci calunniano ed è giusto che siano condannati.
9 Wel : are we any better off? Not at al : we have already indicted Jews and Greeks as being al alikeunder the dominion of sin.	9 Che dunque? Siamo forse noi superiori? No! Infatti abbiamo già formulato l’accusa che, Giudei e Greci, tutti sono sotto il dominio del peccato,
10 As scripture says: Not one of them is upright, not a single one,	10 come sta scritto: Non c’è nessun giusto, nemmeno uno,
11 not a single one is wise, not a single one seeks God.	11 non c’è chi comprenda, non c’è nessuno che cerchi Dio!
12 Al have turned away, all alike turned sour, not one of them does right, not a single one.	12 Tutti hanno smarrito la via, insieme si sono corrotti; non c’è chi compia il bene, non ce n’è neppure uno.
13 Their throats are wide -- open graves, their tongues seductive. Viper's venom behind their lips;	13 La loro gola è un sepolcro spalancato, tramavano inganni con la loro lingua, veleno di serpenti è sotto le loro labbra,
14 their speech is ful of cursing and bitterness.	14 la loro bocca è piena di maledizione e di amarezza.
15 Their feet quick to shed innocent blood,	15 I loro piedi corrono a versare sangue;
16 wherever they go there is havoc and ruin.	16 rovina e sciagura è sul loro cammino
17 They do not know the way of peace,	17 e la via della pace non l’hanno conosciuta.
18 there is no fear of God before their eyes.	18 Non c’è timore di Dio davanti ai loro occhi.
19 Now we are wel aware that whatever the Law says is said for those who are subject to the Law, sothat every mouth may be silenced, and the whole world brought under the judgement of God.	19 Ora, noi sappiamo che quanto la Legge dice, lo dice per quelli che sono sotto la Legge, di modo che ogni bocca sia chiusa e il mondo intero sia riconosciuto colpevole di fronte a Dio.
20 So then, no human being can be found upright at the tribunal of God by keeping the Law; al that theLaw does is to tell us what is sinful.	20 Infatti in base alle opere della Legge nessun vivente sarà giustificato davanti a Dio, perché per mezzo della Legge si ha conoscenza del peccato.
21 God's saving justice was witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, but now it has been revealedaltogether apart from law:	21 Ora invece, indipendentemente dalla Legge, si è manifestata la giustizia di Dio, testimoniata dalla Legge e dai Profeti:
22 God's saving justice given through faith in Jesus Christ to al who believe.	22 giustizia di Dio per mezzo della fede in Gesù Cristo, per tutti quelli che credono. Infatti non c’è differenza,
23 No distinction is made: all have sinned and lack God's glory,	23 perché tutti hanno peccato e sono privi della gloria di Dio,
24 and all are justified by the free gift of his grace through being set free in Christ Jesus.	24 ma sono giustificati gratuitamente per la sua grazia, per mezzo della redenzione che è in Cristo Gesù.
25 God appointed him as a sacrifice for reconciliation, through faith, by the shedding of his blood, and soshowed his justness; first for the past, when sins went unpunished because he held his hand;	25 È lui che Dio ha stabilito apertamente come strumento di espiazione, per mezzo della fede, nel suo sangue, a manifestazione della sua giustizia per la remissione dei peccati passati
26 and now again for the present age, to show how he is just and justifies everyone who has faith inJesus.	26 mediante la clemenza di Dio, al fine di manifestare la sua giustizia nel tempo presente, così da risultare lui giusto e rendere giusto colui che si basa sulla fede in Gesù.
27 So what becomes of our boasts? There is no room for them. On what principle- that only actionscount? No; that faith is what counts,	27 Dove dunque sta il vanto? È stato escluso! Da quale legge? Da quella delle opere? No, ma dalla legge della fede.
28 since, as we see it, a person is justified by faith and not by doing what the Law tel s him to do.	28 Noi riteniamo infatti che l’uomo è giustificato per la fede, indipendentemente dalle opere della Legge.
29 Do you think God is the God only of the Jews, and not of gentiles too? Most certainly of gentiles too,	29 Forse Dio è Dio soltanto dei Giudei? Non lo è anche delle genti? Certo, anche delle genti!
30 since there is only one God; he will justify the circumcised by their faith, and he will justify theuncircumcised through their faith.	30 Poiché unico è il Dio che giustificherà i circoncisi in virtù della fede e gli incirconcisi per mezzo della fede.
31 Are we saying that the Law has been made pointless by faith? Out of the question; we are placing theLaw on its true footing.	31 Togliamo dunque ogni valore alla Legge mediante la fede? Nient’affatto, anzi confermiamo la Legge.
