1 Is there any benefit, then, in being a Jew? Is there any advantage in being circumcised?	1 Qual è dunque la superiorità del giudeo e quale l'utilità della circoncisione?
2 A great deal, in every way. First of al , it was to the Jews that the message of God was entrusted.	2 Grande sotto ogni riguardo. Anzitutto perché ad essi furono affidate le promesse divine.
3 What if some of them were unfaithful? Do you think their lack of faith could cancel God's faithfulness?	3 Che dunque? Se alcuni furono infedeli, la loro infedeltà annullerà forse la fedeltà di Dio?
4 Out of the question! God wil always be true even if no human being can be relied on. As scripturesays: That you may show your saving justice when you pass sentence and your victory may appear when yougive judgement.	4 Non sia mai detto. Ma è necessario che Dio si manifesti verace, ogni uomo, invece, menzognero, secondo che sta scritto: affinché tu sia dichiarato giusto nella tua parola e vinca quando vieni chiamato in giudizio.
5 But if our injustice serves to bring God's saving justice into view, can we say that God is unjust when --to use human terms -- he brings his retribution down on us?	5 Se poi la nostra malvagità mette in risalto la giustizia di Dio, che diremo? Dio sarebbe ingiusto, quando scatena su di noi la sua collera? Uso un linguaggio antropomorfico.
6 Out of the question! It would mean that God could not be the judge of the world.	6 Non sia mai detto. Se così fosse, come potrebbe Dio giudicare l'umanità?
7 You might as wel say that if my untruthfulness makes God demonstrate his truthfulness, to his greaterglory, then I should not be judged to be a sinner at al .	7 Se infatti la veracità di Dio sovrabbonda a sua gloria in contrasto con la mia infedeltà, perché anch'io sono giudicato come peccatore?
8 In this case, the slanderous report some people are spreading would be true, that we teach that oneshould do evil that good may come of it. In fact such people are justly condemned.	8 Forse, come siamo calunniati e come alcuni affermano che diciamo, dovremmo fare il male perché ne derivi il bene? Su costoro cade una giusta condanna.
9 Wel : are we any better off? Not at al : we have already indicted Jews and Greeks as being al alikeunder the dominion of sin.	9 E allora? Abbiamo dei vantaggi? Niente affatto! Affermammo prima, infatti, accusando, che Giudei e Greci sono tutti sotto il dominio del peccato,
10 As scripture says: Not one of them is upright, not a single one,	10 come sta scritto: Non esiste giusto, neppure uno,
11 not a single one is wise, not a single one seeks God.	11 non c'è chi comprende, non c'è chi cerca Dio;
12 Al have turned away, all alike turned sour, not one of them does right, not a single one.	12 tutti furono fuorviati, tutti si sono corrotti; non c'è chi fa il bene, nemmeno una persona;
13 Their throats are wide -- open graves, their tongues seductive. Viper's venom behind their lips;	13 sepolcro spalancato è la loro gola, tramano inganni con la loro lingua, veleno di aspidi sta sotto le loro labbra;
14 their speech is ful of cursing and bitterness.	14 la loro bocca rigurgita di maledizioni e di acidità maligna;
15 Their feet quick to shed innocent blood,	15 i loro piedi corrono veloci a versare il sangue,
16 wherever they go there is havoc and ruin.	16 strage e lamento sono sul loro cammino
17 They do not know the way of peace,	17 e non conobbero la via del bene.
18 there is no fear of God before their eyes.	18 Non c'è timore di Dio davanti ai loro occhi.
19 Now we are wel aware that whatever the Law says is said for those who are subject to the Law, sothat every mouth may be silenced, and the whole world brought under the judgement of God.	19 Ora noi sappiamo che quanto dice la legge lo afferma per coloro che sono sotto la legge, cosicché ogni bocca ammutolisca e tutto il mondo divenga reo davanti a Dio:
20 So then, no human being can be found upright at the tribunal of God by keeping the Law; al that theLaw does is to tell us what is sinful.	20 poiché dalle opere della legge nessuna carne verrà giustificata dinanzi a lui. Per mezzo della legge, infatti, si ha la conoscenza del peccato.
21 God's saving justice was witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, but now it has been revealedaltogether apart from law:	21 Ma ora, a prescindere dalla legge, la giustizia di Dio si è rivelata, testimoniata dalla legge e dai profeti;
22 God's saving justice given through faith in Jesus Christ to al who believe.	22 la giustizia di Dio, per mezzo della fede in Gesù Cristo, per tutti coloro che credono, poiché non c'è distinzione.
23 No distinction is made: all have sinned and lack God's glory,	23 Tutti infatti peccarono e sono privi della gloria di Dio,
24 and all are justified by the free gift of his grace through being set free in Christ Jesus.	24 e vengono giustificati gratuitamente per suo favore, mediante la redenzione che si trova per mezzo di Gesù Cristo.
25 God appointed him as a sacrifice for reconciliation, through faith, by the shedding of his blood, and soshowed his justness; first for the past, when sins went unpunished because he held his hand;	25 Dio lo ha esposto pubblicamente come propiziatorio, per mezzo della fede nel suo sangue, per mostrare la sua giustizia nella remissione dei peccati passati,
26 and now again for the present age, to show how he is just and justifies everyone who has faith inJesus.	26 collegata con l'attesa paziente di Dio, per mostrare la sua giustizia nel momento presente, allo scopo di essere giusto e di giustificare chi si basa sulla fede in Gesù.
27 So what becomes of our boasts? There is no room for them. On what principle- that only actionscount? No; that faith is what counts,	27 Dov'è dunque il vanto? Fu eliminato. Attraverso quale legge? Delle opere? Niente affatto, ma per la legge della fede.
28 since, as we see it, a person is justified by faith and not by doing what the Law tel s him to do.	28 Pensiamo dunque che l'uomo viene giustificato per mezzo della fede senza le opere della legge.
29 Do you think God is the God only of the Jews, and not of gentiles too? Most certainly of gentiles too,	29 O forse Dio è Dio solo dei Giudei? Non lo è forse anche dei pagani? Sì, certamente, anche dei pagani,
30 since there is only one God; he will justify the circumcised by their faith, and he will justify theuncircumcised through their faith.	30 poiché vi è un solo Dio, che giustificherà i circoncisi in base alla fede, gli incirconcisi per mezzo della fede.
31 Are we saying that the Law has been made pointless by faith? Out of the question; we are placing theLaw on its true footing.	31 Aboliamo dunque la legge per mezzo della fede? Non sia mai detto! Al contrario diamo una base alla legge.
