Acts of the Apostles 14

1 It happened that at Iconium they went to the Jewish synagogue, in the same way, and they spoke soeffectively that a great many Jews and Greeks became believers.	1 Or avvenne che in Iconio Paolo e Barnaba entrarono insieme nella sinagoga dei Giudei e parlarono in maniera che gran numero dei Giudei e Greci credette.
2 (However, the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the gentiles against the brothers and set them inopposition.)	2 Ma i Giudei che non credettero misero su ed irritarono gli animi dei Gentili contro i fratelli.
3 Accordingly Paul and Barnabas stayed on for some time, preaching fearlessly in the Lord; and heattested al they said about his gift of grace, al owing signs and wonders to be performed by them.	3 Ciò non ostante essi vi si fermarono molto tempo a lavorare, fiduciosi nel Signore, che confermava la parola colla sua grazia, concedendo che segni e prodigi si operassero per le loro mani.
4 The people in the city were divided; some supported the Jews, others the apostles,	4 E il popolo della città si divise, chi stava per i Giudei, chi per gli Apostoli.
5 but eventual y with the connivance of the authorities a move was made by gentiles as well as Jews tomake attacks on them and to stone them.	5 Ma, sollevatisi coi loro i capi i Giudei ed i Gentili affine di oltraggiarli e lapidarli,
6 When they came to hear of this, they went off for safety to Lycaonia where, in the towns of Lystra andDerbe and in the surrounding country,	6 inteso ciò, si rifugiarono nelle città di Licaonia, Bistri e Derbe e per tutto il paese d'intorno e vi evangelizzarono.
7 they preached the good news.	7 Or si trovava in Listri un uomo paralizzato nelle gambe, che essendo zoppo dal seno materno, non aveva mai camminalo.
8 There was a man sitting there who had never walked in his life, because his feet were crippled frombirth;	8 Costui senti Paolo predicaro. E Paolo, mirandolo e vedendo che aveva fede di essere salvato,
9 he was listening to Paul preaching, and Paul looked at him intently and saw that he had the faith to becured.	9 gli disse ad alta voce: Levati ritto sui tuoi piedi. E saltò su e si mise a camminare.
10 Paul said in a loud voice, 'Get to your feet-stand up,' and the cripple jumped up and began to walk.	10 Allora la folla, veduto ciò che Paolo aveva fatto, alzò la voce dicendo in dialetto di Licaonia: Sono discesi a noi gli dèi in sembianze di uomini.
11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done they shouted in the language of Lycaonia, 'The gods havecome down to us in human form.'	11 E davano a Barnaba il nome di Giove, di Mercurio a Paolo, essendo egli il primo a parlare.
12 They addressed Barnabas as Zeus, and since Paul was the principal speaker they cal ed himHermes.	12 E di più il sacerdote di Giove, che stava all'entrata della città, condotti dinanzi alle porte dei tori colle corone, voleva insieme alle turbe offrire un sacrifizio.
13 The priests of Zeus-outside-the-Gate, proposing that al the people should offer sacrifice with them,brought garlanded oxen to the gates.	13 Ma gli Apostoli Barnaba e Paolo, udito ciò, stracciandosi le vesti, si gettarono in mezzo alle turbe,
14 When the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening they tore their clothes, and rushedinto the crowd, shouting,	14 gridando: O Licaoni, perchè fate questo? Anche noi siamo dei mortali della vostra stessa natura! e vi predichiamo di convertirvi da queste vanità al Dio vivo, che ha fatto il cielo e la terra e il mare e tutto quello che è in essi;
15 'Friends, what do you think you are doing? We are only human beings, mortal like yourselves. Wehave come with good news to make you turn from these empty idols to the living God who made sky and earthand the sea and all that these hold.	15 il quale nel passato lasciò che ogni nazione seguisse la sua via,
16 In the past he al owed al the nations to go their own way;	16 non lasciandosi però senza testimonianza, facendo dal cielo del bene colle piogge e le fertili stagioni e dando in abbondanza nutrimento e letizia ai nostri cuori.
17 but even then he did not leave you without evidence of himself in the good things he does for you: hesends you rain from heaven and seasons of fruitfulness; he fil s you with food and your hearts with merriment.'	17 E anche parlando così, riuscivano a mala pena a trattenere il popolo da offrire loro il sacrifizio.
18 With this speech they just managed to prevent the crowd from offering them sacrifice.	18 Sopraggiunsero poi da Antiochia e da Iconio alcuni Giudei, che, sobillate le turbe e lapidato Paolo, lo trascinarono fuori della città stimandolo morto.
19 Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and turned the people against them. They stonedPaul and dragged him outside the town, thinking he was dead.	19 Ma, vedutosi intorno i discepoli, Paolo s'alzò ed entrò in città ed il giorno dopo partì con Barnaba per Derbe.
20 The disciples came crowding round him but, as they did so, he stood up and went back to the town.The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.	20 Ed avendo annunziato il Vangelo a quella città e fatti molti discepoli, ripassarono da Listri, da Iconio e da Antiochia,
21 Having preached the good news in that town and made a considerable number of disciples, they wentback through Lystra, Iconium and Antioch.	21 confortando le anime dei discepoli ed esortandoli a perseverare nella fede, e dicendo che al regno di Dio dobbiamo arrivarvi attraverso molte tribolazioni.
22 They put fresh heart into the disciples, encouraging them to persevere in the faith, saying, 'We mustal experience many hardships before we enter the kingdom of God.'	22 Dopo aver ordinato per essi dei sacerdoti in ciascuna chiesa, dopo preghiere e digiuni, li raccomandarono al Signore nel quale avevan creduto.
23 In each of these churches they appointed elders, and with prayer and fasting they commended themto the Lord in whom they had come to believe.	23 Traversata poi la Pisidia, giunsero nella Panfilia;
24 They passed through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia.	24 quindi, annunziata la parola del Signore in Perge, scesero ad Attalia.
25 Then after proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia	25 E di lì fecero vela per Antiochia, donde erano partiti, raccomandati alla grazia di Dio per l'opera che avevano compiuta.
26 and from there sailed for Antioch, where they had original y been commended to the grace of God forthe work they had now completed.	26 E, appena giunti, radunata la chiesa, raccontarono quanto Dio avesse fatto con essi e come avesse aperta ai Gentili la porta della fede.
27 On their arrival they assembled the church and gave an account of all that God had done with them,and how he had opened the door of faith to the gentiles.	27 Poi si trattennero non poco tempo coi discepoli.
28 They stayed there with the disciples for some time.
