Acts of the Apostles 14

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 It happened that at Iconium they went to the Jewish synagogue, in the same way, and they spoke soeffectively that a great many Jews and Greeks became believers.	1 Anche a Iconio entrarono nella sinagoga dei Giudei e parlarono con tanta efficacia che un gran numero di Giudei e di Greci abbracciarono la fede.
2 (However, the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the gentiles against the brothers and set them inopposition.)	2 Ma i Giudei increduli eccitarono i pagani ed esasperarono i loro animi contro i fratelli.
3 Accordingly Paul and Barnabas stayed on for some time, preaching fearlessly in the Lord; and heattested al they said about his gift of grace, al owing signs and wonders to be performed by them.	3 Ciò nonostante si trattennero colà per molto tempo, parlando con coraggio nel Signore, che dava testimonianza alla predicazione della sua grazia e concedeva che si compissero segni e prodigi per mano loro.
4 The people in the city were divided; some supported the Jews, others the apostles,	4 La popolazione della città si divise: alcuni stavano con i Giudei, altri con gli apostoli.
5 but eventual y with the connivance of the authorities a move was made by gentiles as well as Jews tomake attacks on them and to stone them.	5 Ma quando pagani e Giudei si mossero con i loro capi per maltrattarli e lapidarli,
6 When they came to hear of this, they went off for safety to Lycaonia where, in the towns of Lystra andDerbe and in the surrounding country,	6 saputolo, si rifugiarono nelle città della Licaonia, a Listra, a Derbe e nei dintorni.
7 they preached the good news.	7 E colà predicavano il vangelo.
8 There was a man sitting there who had never walked in his life, because his feet were crippled frombirth;	8 Vi era un uomo in Listra incapace di reggersi in piedi, essendo zoppo fin dalla nascita. Stava sempre seduto e non aveva mai fatto un passo.
9 he was listening to Paul preaching, and Paul looked at him intently and saw that he had the faith to becured.	9 Costui sentì Paolo mentre parlava. Paolo, guardandolo fisso e vedendo che aveva fede per essere guarito,
10 Paul said in a loud voice, 'Get to your feet-stand up,' and the cripple jumped up and began to walk.	10 disse a gran voce: "A'lzati diritto sui tuoi piedi". Egli balzò su e cominciò a camminare.
11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done they shouted in the language of Lycaonia, 'The gods havecome down to us in human form.'	11 Le turbe, vedendo ciò che Paolo aveva fatto, si misero a gridare in licaonico: "Gli dèi in forma umana sono discesi tra noi".
12 They addressed Barnabas as Zeus, and since Paul was the principal speaker they cal ed himHermes.	12 E chiamavano Bàrnaba Zeus e Paolo Ermes, poiché era il più eloquente.
13 The priests of Zeus-outside-the-Gate, proposing that al the people should offer sacrifice with them,brought garlanded oxen to the gates.	13 Intanto il sacerdote di Zeus, il cui tempio si trovava alle porte della città, condusse dei tori inghirlandati presso le porte e voleva offrire un sacrificio insieme con la folla.
14 When the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening they tore their clothes, and rushedinto the crowd, shouting,	14 Quando gli apostoli Bàrnaba e Paolo vennero a sapere di ciò, stracciando le loro vesti si precipitarono in mezzo alla folla gridando:
15 'Friends, what do you think you are doing? We are only human beings, mortal like yourselves. Wehave come with good news to make you turn from these empty idols to the living God who made sky and earthand the sea and all that these hold.	15 "Uomini, perché fate queste cose? Anche noi siamo esseri umani come voi, con le vostre debolezze, e vi predichiamo di convertirvi da queste cose vane al Dio vivente, che ha fatto il cielo e la terra, il mare e tutto ciò che in essi si trova.
16 In the past he al owed al the nations to go their own way;	16 Egli nelle generazioni passate ha tollerato che tutte le genti andassero per le loro strade.
17 but even then he did not leave you without evidence of himself in the good things he does for you: hesends you rain from heaven and seasons of fruitfulness; he fil s you with food and your hearts with merriment.'	17 Ma non ha lasciato se stesso privo di testimonianza, operando benefici, dandovi dal cielo le piogge e le stagioni fruttifere, saziandovi di cibo e riempiendo di letizia i vostri cuori".
18 With this speech they just managed to prevent the crowd from offering them sacrifice.	18 Dicendo ciò, a mala pena riuscirono a trattenere le folle dall'offrir loro un sacrificio.
19 Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and turned the people against them. They stonedPaul and dragged him outside the town, thinking he was dead.	19 Ma giunsero dei Giudei da Antiochia e da Iconio, i quali si guadagnarono le folle e lapidarono Paolo e lo trascinarono fuori della città, pensandolo morto.
20 The disciples came crowding round him but, as they did so, he stood up and went back to the town.The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.	20 Ma quando i discepoli gli fecero cerchio intorno, egli si alzò ed entrò in città. Il giorno dopo partì con Bàrnaba per Derbe.
21 Having preached the good news in that town and made a considerable number of disciples, they wentback through Lystra, Iconium and Antioch.	21 Dopo aver evangelizzato quella città e fatto molti discepoli, tornarono a Listra, a Iconio e ad Antiochia,
22 They put fresh heart into the disciples, encouraging them to persevere in the faith, saying, 'We mustal experience many hardships before we enter the kingdom of God.'	22 fortificando gli animi dei discepoli ed esortandoli a perseverare nella fede, dicendo che è attraverso molte tribolazioni che dobbiamo entrare nel regno di Dio.
23 In each of these churches they appointed elders, and with prayer and fasting they commended themto the Lord in whom they had come to believe.	23 Per loro costituirono nelle singole chiese degli anziani e, dopo aver pregato e digiunato, li raccomandarono al Signore nel quale avevano creduto.
24 They passed through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia.	24 Attraversata la Pisidia, giunsero nella Panfilia
25 Then after proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia	25 e, dopo aver predicato la parola a Perge, discesero ad Attalia
26 and from there sailed for Antioch, where they had original y been commended to the grace of God forthe work they had now completed.	26 e di lì fecero vela per Antiochia, da dove erano stati raccomandati alla grazia di Dio per l'opera che avevano compiuto.
27 On their arrival they assembled the church and gave an account of all that God had done with them,and how he had opened the door of faith to the gentiles.	27 Giunti colà e radunata la chiesa, annunciarono tutto ciò che Dio aveva compiuto per mezzo loro e come aveva aperto ai pagani la porta della fede.
28 They stayed there with the disciples for some time.	28 Ivi rimasero non poco tempo con i discepoli.
