Acts of the Apostles 14

1 It happened that at Iconium they went to the Jewish synagogue, in the same way, and they spoke soeffectively that a great many Jews and Greeks became believers.	1 ויהי באיקניון ויבאו יחדו אל בית כנסת היהודים וידברו שם עד כי האמין המון רב מן היהודים ומן היונים
2 (However, the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the gentiles against the brothers and set them inopposition.)	2 אך היהודים אשר לא האמינו עוררו והכעיסו את נפשות הגוים על האחים
3 Accordingly Paul and Barnabas stayed on for some time, preaching fearlessly in the Lord; and heattested al they said about his gift of grace, al owing signs and wonders to be performed by them.	3 וישבו שם ימים רבים וילמדו בבטחונם ביהוה העמיד על דבר חסדו בעשותו על ידם אתות ומופתים
4 The people in the city were divided; some supported the Jews, others the apostles,	4 ויחלק המון העיר לחצי אלה נטו אחרי היהודים ואלה אחרי השליחים
5 but eventual y with the connivance of the authorities a move was made by gentiles as well as Jews tomake attacks on them and to stone them.	5 ויהי רגשת הגוים והיהודים עם ראשיהם להתעלל בהם ולסקלם
6 When they came to hear of this, they went off for safety to Lycaonia where, in the towns of Lystra andDerbe and in the surrounding country,	6 ויודע להם ויברחו לערי לוקוניא אל לוסטרא ודרבי וסביבותן
7 they preached the good news.	7 ויבשרו שם הבשורה
8 There was a man sitting there who had never walked in his life, because his feet were crippled frombirth;	8 ואיש נכה רגלים היה בלוסטרא והוא ישב פסח מבטן אמו ולא הלך מימיו
9 he was listening to Paul preaching, and Paul looked at him intently and saw that he had the faith to becured.	9 וישמע את פולוס מדבר והוא הסתכל בו וירא כי אמונה בו להושע
10 Paul said in a loud voice, 'Get to your feet-stand up,' and the cripple jumped up and began to walk.	10 ויאמר בקול גדול עמד הכן על רגליך וידלג ויתהלך
11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done they shouted in the language of Lycaonia, 'The gods havecome down to us in human form.'	11 והמון העם כראותם את אשר עשה פולוס נשאו את קולם ויאמרו בלשון לוקונית ירדו אלינו האלהים בדמות אנשים
12 They addressed Barnabas as Zeus, and since Paul was the principal speaker they cal ed himHermes.	12 ויקראו לבר נבא בל ולפולוס קראו הרמיס באשר הוא ראש המדברים
13 The priests of Zeus-outside-the-Gate, proposing that al the people should offer sacrifice with them,brought garlanded oxen to the gates.	13 וכהן בית בל אשר מחוץ לעירם הביא השערה שורים ועטרות ויחפץ לזבח הוא והמון העם
14 When the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening they tore their clothes, and rushedinto the crowd, shouting,	14 ויהי כשמע זאת השליחים פולוס ובר נבא ויקרעו את בגדיהם וירוצו אל תוך העם
15 'Friends, what do you think you are doing? We are only human beings, mortal like yourselves. Wehave come with good news to make you turn from these empty idols to the living God who made sky and earthand the sea and all that these hold.	15 ויצעקו לאמר אנשים למה תעשו כזאת גם אנחנו בני אדם חלשים כמוכם ונבשרה אתכם למען שוב תשובו מן הבליכם אלה אל אלהים חיים אשר עשה את השמים ואת הארץ ואת הים ואת כל אשר בם
16 In the past he al owed al the nations to go their own way;	16 ואשר בדרות קדם הניח לכל הגוים ללכת בדרכיהם
17 but even then he did not leave you without evidence of himself in the good things he does for you: hesends you rain from heaven and seasons of fruitfulness; he fil s you with food and your hearts with merriment.'	17 וגם לא חדל להעיד על עצמו וייטב לנו בתתו מטר מן השמים ועתות שבע וימלא לבותינו מזון וששון
18 With this speech they just managed to prevent the crowd from offering them sacrifice.	18 ואף בדברים האלה כמעט לא עצרו כח לכלוא את העם מזבח להם
19 Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and turned the people against them. They stonedPaul and dragged him outside the town, thinking he was dead.	19 ויבאו שמה יהודים מן אנטיוכיא ומן איקניון ויסיתו את העם וירגמו את פולוס באבנים ויסחבהו חוצה לעיר בחשבם כי מת
20 The disciples came crowding round him but, as they did so, he stood up and went back to the town.The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.	20 ויסבו אתו התלמידים ויקם ויבא העירה וממחרת יצא אל דרבי הוא ובר נבא
21 Having preached the good news in that town and made a considerable number of disciples, they wentback through Lystra, Iconium and Antioch.	21 ויבשרו את הבשורה בעיר ההיא ואחרי העמידם תלמידים הרבה שבו אל לוסטרא ואיקניון ואנטיוכיא
22 They put fresh heart into the disciples, encouraging them to persevere in the faith, saying, 'We mustal experience many hardships before we enter the kingdom of God.'	22 ויחזקו את נפשות התלמידים ויזהירו אתם לעמד באמונה וכי רק בצרות רבות בוא נבוא אל מלכות האלהים
23 In each of these churches they appointed elders, and with prayer and fasting they commended themto the Lord in whom they had come to believe.	23 ויבחרו להם זקנים בכל קהלה וקהלה ויתפללו ויצומו ויפקידום ביד האדון אשר האמינו בו
24 They passed through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia.	24 ויעברו בפיסדיא ויבאו אל פמפוליא
25 Then after proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia	25 וישמיעו את דבר יהוה בפרגי וירדו אל אטליא
26 and from there sailed for Antioch, where they had original y been commended to the grace of God forthe work they had now completed.	26 ומשם באו באניה אל אנטיוכיא אשר נמסרו שם לחסד אלהים על המלאכה אשר מלאו אתה
27 On their arrival they assembled the church and gave an account of all that God had done with them,and how he had opened the door of faith to the gentiles.	27 ובבאם שמה הקהילו את העדה ויגידו את כל אשר עשה אתם האלהים ואת אשר פתח לגוים פתח האמונה
28 They stayed there with the disciples for some time.	28 וישבו שם עם התלמידים ימים לא מעטים
