Acts of the Apostles 14

1 It happened that at Iconium they went to the Jewish synagogue, in the same way, and they spoke soeffectively that a great many Jews and Greeks became believers.	1 In Ikonion gingen sie ebenfalls in die Synagoge der Juden und redeten in dieser Weise und eine große Zahl von Juden und Griechen wurde gläubig.
2 (However, the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the gentiles against the brothers and set them inopposition.)	2 Die Juden aber, die sich widersetzten, erregten und erbitterten die Heiden gegen die Brüder.
3 Accordingly Paul and Barnabas stayed on for some time, preaching fearlessly in the Lord; and heattested al they said about his gift of grace, al owing signs and wonders to be performed by them.	3 Längere Zeit nun blieben sie dort und predigten freimütig im Vertrauen auf den Herrn; er legte Zeugnis ab für das Wort seiner Gnade, indem er durch die Hände der Apostel Zeichen und Wunder geschehen ließ.
4 The people in the city were divided; some supported the Jews, others the apostles,	4 Doch das Volk in der Stadt spaltete sich; die einen hielten zu den Juden, die andern zu den Aposteln.
5 but eventual y with the connivance of the authorities a move was made by gentiles as well as Jews tomake attacks on them and to stone them.	5 Als die Apostel merkten, dass die Heiden und die Juden zusammen mit ihren Führern entschlossen waren, sie zu misshandeln und zu steinigen,
6 When they came to hear of this, they went off for safety to Lycaonia where, in the towns of Lystra andDerbe and in the surrounding country,	6 flohen sie in die Städte von Lykaonien, Lystra und Derbe, und in deren Umgebung.
7 they preached the good news.	7 Dort verkündeten sie das Evangelium.
8 There was a man sitting there who had never walked in his life, because his feet were crippled frombirth;	8 In Lystra war ein Mann, der von Geburt an gelähmt war; er saß ohne Kraft in den Füßen da und hatte nie gehen können.
9 he was listening to Paul preaching, and Paul looked at him intently and saw that he had the faith to becured.	9 Er hörte der Predigt des Paulus zu. Dieser blickte ihm fest ins Auge; und da er sah, dass der Mann darauf vertraute, gerettet zu werden,
10 Paul said in a loud voice, 'Get to your feet-stand up,' and the cripple jumped up and began to walk.	10 rief er laut: Steh auf! Stell dich aufrecht auf deine Füße! Da sprang der Mann auf und ging umher.
11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done they shouted in the language of Lycaonia, 'The gods havecome down to us in human form.'	11 Als die Menge sah, was Paulus getan hatte, fing sie an zu schreien und rief auf Lykaonisch: Die Götter sind in Menschengestalt zu uns herabgestiegen.
12 They addressed Barnabas as Zeus, and since Paul was the principal speaker they cal ed himHermes.	12 Und sie nannten den Barnabas Zeus, den Paulus aber Hermes, weil er der Wortführer war.
13 The priests of Zeus-outside-the-Gate, proposing that al the people should offer sacrifice with them,brought garlanded oxen to the gates.	13 Der Priester des «Zeus vor der Stadt» brachte Stiere und Kränze an die Tore und wollte zusammen mit der Volksmenge ein Opfer darbringen.
14 When the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening they tore their clothes, and rushedinto the crowd, shouting,	14 Als die Apostel Barnabas und Paulus davon hörten, zerrissen sie ihre Kleider, sprangen unter das Volk und riefen:
15 'Friends, what do you think you are doing? We are only human beings, mortal like yourselves. Wehave come with good news to make you turn from these empty idols to the living God who made sky and earthand the sea and all that these hold.	15 Männer, was tut ihr? Auch wir sind nur Menschen, von gleicher Art wie ihr; wir bringen euch das Evangelium, damit ihr euch von diesen nichtigen Götzen zu dem lebendigen Gott bekehrt, der den Himmel, die Erde und das Meer geschaffen hat und alles, was dazugehört.
16 In the past he al owed al the nations to go their own way;	16 Er ließ in den vergangenen Zeiten alle Völker ihre Wege gehen.
17 but even then he did not leave you without evidence of himself in the good things he does for you: hesends you rain from heaven and seasons of fruitfulness; he fil s you with food and your hearts with merriment.'	17 Und doch hat er sich nicht unbezeugt gelassen: Er tat Gutes, gab euch vom Himmel her Regen und fruchtbare Zeiten; mit Nahrung und mit Freude erfüllte er euer Herz.
18 With this speech they just managed to prevent the crowd from offering them sacrifice.	18 Doch selbst mit diesen Worten konnten sie die Volksmenge kaum davon abbringen, ihnen zu opfern.
19 Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and turned the people against them. They stonedPaul and dragged him outside the town, thinking he was dead.	19 Von Antiochia und Ikonion aber kamen Juden und überredeten die Volksmenge. Und sie steinigten den Paulus und schleiften ihn zur Stadt hinaus, in der Meinung, er sei tot.
20 The disciples came crowding round him but, as they did so, he stood up and went back to the town.The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.	20 Als aber die Jünger ihn umringten, stand er auf und ging in die Stadt. Am anderen Tag zog er mit Barnabas nach Derbe weiter.
21 Having preached the good news in that town and made a considerable number of disciples, they wentback through Lystra, Iconium and Antioch.	21 Als sie dieser Stadt das Evangelium verkündet und viele Jünger gewonnen hatten, kehrten sie nach Lystra, Ikonion und Antiochia zurück.
22 They put fresh heart into the disciples, encouraging them to persevere in the faith, saying, 'We mustal experience many hardships before we enter the kingdom of God.'	22 Sie sprachen den Jüngern Mut zu und ermahnten sie, treu am Glauben fest zu halten; sie sagten: Durch viele Drangsale müssen wir in das Reich Gottes gelangen.
23 In each of these churches they appointed elders, and with prayer and fasting they commended themto the Lord in whom they had come to believe.	23 In jeder Gemeinde bestellten sie durch Handauflegung Älteste und empfahlen sie mit Gebet und Fasten dem Herrn, an den sie nun glaubten.
24 They passed through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia.	24 Nachdem sie durch Pisidien gezogen waren, kamen sie nach Pamphylien,
25 Then after proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia	25 verkündeten in Perge das Wort und gingen dann nach Attalia hinab.
26 and from there sailed for Antioch, where they had original y been commended to the grace of God forthe work they had now completed.	26 Von dort fuhren sie mit dem Schiff nach Antiochia, wo man sie für das Werk, das sie nun vollbracht hatten, der Gnade Gottes empfohlen hatte.
27 On their arrival they assembled the church and gave an account of all that God had done with them,and how he had opened the door of faith to the gentiles.	27 Als sie dort angekommen waren, riefen sie die Gemeinde zusammen und berichteten alles, was Gott mit ihnen zusammen getan und dass er den Heiden die Tür zum Glauben geöffnet hatte.
28 They stayed there with the disciples for some time.	28 Und sie blieben noch längere Zeit bei den Jüngern.
