The apostles and the brothers in Judaea heard that gentiles too had accepted the word of God,1 Now the Apostles and brothers who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the Word of God.
and when Peter came up to Jerusalem the circumcised believers protested to him2 Then, when Peter had gone up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision argued against him,
and said, 'So you have been visiting the uncircumcised and eating with them!'3 saying, “Why did you enter to uncircumcised men, and why did you eat with them?”
Peter in reply gave them the details point by point,4 And Peter began to explain to them, in an orderly manner, saying:
'One day, when I was in the town of Jaffa,' he began, 'I fell into a trance as I was praying and had avision of something like a big sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners. This sheet came right downbeside me.5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and I saw, in an ecstasy of mind, a vision: a certain container descending, like a great linen sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners. And it drew near to me.
I looked careful y into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds ofheaven.6 And looking into it, I considered and saw the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the reptiles, and the flying things of the air.
Then I heard a voice that said to me, "Now, Peter, kill and eat!"7 Then I also heard a voice saying to me: ‘Rise up, Peter. Kill and eat.’
But I answered, "Certainly not, Lord; nothing profane or unclean has ever crossed my lips."8 But I said: ‘Never, lord! For what is common or unclean has never entered into my mouth.’
And a second time the voice spoke from heaven, "What God has made clean, you have no right to callprofane."9 Then the voice responded a second time from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed, you shall not call common.’
This was repeated three times, before the whole of it was drawn up to heaven again.10 Now this was done three times. And then everything was taken up again into heaven.
'Just at that moment, three men stopped outside the house where we were staying; they had beensent from Caesarea to fetch me,11 And behold, immediately there were three men standing near the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea.
and the Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going back with them. The six brothers here camewith me as wel , and we entered the man's house.12 Then the Spirit told me that I should go with them, doubting nothing. And these six brothers went with me also. And we entered into the house of the man.
He told us he had seen an angel standing in his house who said, "Send to Jaffa and fetch Simonknown as Peter;13 And he described for us how he had seen an Angel in his house, standing and saying to him: ‘Send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is surnamed Peter.
he has a message for you that wil save you and your entire household."14 And he shall speak to you words, by which you shall be saved with your whole house.’
'I had scarcely begun to speak when the Holy Spirit came down on them in the same way as it cameon us at the beginning,15 And when I had begun to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, just as upon us also, in the beginning.
and I remembered that the Lord had said, "John baptised with water, but you will be baptised with theHoly Spirit."16 Then I remembered the words of the Lord, just as he himself said: ‘John, indeed, baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
I realised then that God was giving them the identical gift he gave to us when we believed in the LordJesus Christ; and who was I to stand in God's way?'17 Therefore, if God gave them the same grace, as also to us, who have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I would be able to prohibit God?”
This account satisfied them, and they gave glory to God, saying, 'God has clearly granted to thegentiles too the repentance that leads to life.'18 Having heard these things, they were silent. And they glorified God, saying: “So has God also given to the Gentiles repentance unto life.”
Those who had scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen travel ed as far asPhoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, but they proclaimed the message only to Jews.19 And some of them, having been dispersed by the persecution that had occurred under Stephen, traveled around, even to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the Word to no one, except to Jews only.
Some of them, however, who came from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch where they startedpreaching also to the Greeks, proclaiming the good news of the Lord Jesus to them.20 But some of these men from Cyprus and Cyrene, when they had entered into Antioch, were speaking also to the Greeks, announcing the Lord Jesus.
The Lord helped them, and a great number believed and were converted to the Lord.21 And the hand of the Lord was with them. And a great number believed and were converted to the Lord.
The news of them came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem and they sent Barnabas out toAntioch.22 Now the news came to the ears of the Church at Jerusalem about these things, and they sent Barnabas as far as Antioch.
There he was glad to see for himself that God had given grace, and he urged them all to remainfaithful to the Lord with heartfelt devotion;23 And when he had arrived there and had seen the grace of God, he was gladdened. And he exhorted them all to continue in the Lord with a resolute heart.
for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. And a large number of people werewon over to the Lord.24 For he was a good man, and he was filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. And a great multitude was added to the Lord.
Barnabas then left for Tarsus to look for Saul,25 Then Barnabas set out for Tarsus, so that he might seek Saul. And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch.
and when he found him he brought him to Antioch. And it happened that they stayed together in thatchurch a whole year, instructing a large number of people. It was at Antioch that the disciples were first cal ed'Christians'.26 And they were conversing there in the Church for an entire year. And they taught such a great multitude, that it was at Antioch that the disciples were first known by the name of Christian.
While they were there some prophets came down to Antioch from Jerusalem,27 Now in these days, prophets from Jerusalem went over to Antioch.
and one of them whose name was Agabus, seized by the Spirit, stood up and predicted that a severeand universal famine was going to happen. This in fact happened while Claudius was emperor.28 And one of them, named Agabus, rising up, signified through the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine over the entire world, which did happen under Claudius.
The disciples decided to send relief, each to contribute what he could afford, to the brothers living inJudaea.29 Then the disciples declared, according to what each one possessed, what they would offer to be sent to the brothers living in Judea.
They did this and delivered their contributions to the elders through the agency of Barnabas and Saul.30 And so they did, sending it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
