1 The apostles and the brothers in Judaea heard that gentiles too had accepted the word of God,	1 Les apôtres et les frères qui étaient en Judée apprirent que des non-Juifs avaient accueilli la parole de Dieu.
2 and when Peter came up to Jerusalem the circumcised believers protested to him	2 Quand Pierre monta à Jérusalem, des Juifs devenus croyants lui firent des reproches:
3 and said, 'So you have been visiting the uncircumcised and eating with them!'	3 "Tu es entré chez des gens qui ne sont pas circoncis et tu as mangé avec eux!”
4 Peter in reply gave them the details point by point,	4 Et Pierre commença à leur exposer les faits dans l’ordre:
5 'One day, when I was in the town of Jaffa,' he began, 'I fell into a trance as I was praying and had avision of something like a big sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners. This sheet came right downbeside me.	5 "J’étais en prière dans la ville de Joppé quand j’ai eu une extase. Quelque chose descendait du ciel, c’était comme une tente très vaste qui reposait sur ses quatre coins, et elle arrivait du ciel jusqu’à moi.
6 I looked careful y into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds ofheaven.	6 Comme je la regardais et cherchais à comprendre, j’y ai vu des animaux sauvages, des bêtes féroces, des reptiles et des oiseaux.
7 Then I heard a voice that said to me, "Now, Peter, kill and eat!"	7 Et puis j’ai entendu une voix qui me disait: ‘Lève-toi, Pierre, tue et mange.’
8 But I answered, "Certainly not, Lord; nothing profane or unclean has ever crossed my lips."	8 “J’ai répondu: ‘Tu ne voudrais pas, Seigneur! Rien d’impur ou de souillé n’est encore entré dans ma bouche.’
9 And a second time the voice spoke from heaven, "What God has made clean, you have no right to callprofane."	9 “Et la voix qui venait du ciel me dit: ‘Ne vois pas d’impureté là où Dieu a fait les choses pures.’
10 This was repeated three times, before the whole of it was drawn up to heaven again.	10 “Cela s’est reproduit trois fois et tout a été remonté au ciel.
11 'Just at that moment, three men stopped outside the house where we were staying; they had beensent from Caesarea to fetch me,	11 Immédiatement après, trois hommes arrivaient de Césarée à la maison où j’étais; on les avait envoyés me chercher.
12 and the Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going back with them. The six brothers here camewith me as wel , and we entered the man's house.	12 “C’est alors que l’Esprit m’a dit d’aller avec eux sans faire de difficultés. Avec moi sont partis les six frères que voilà, et nous sommes entrés dans la maison de cet homme.
13 He told us he had seen an angel standing in his house who said, "Send to Jaffa and fetch Simonknown as Peter;	13 Il nous a alors raconté comment il avait vu dans sa maison un ange qui s’était présenté devant lui et lui avait dit: Envoie chercher à Joppé Simon surnommé Pierre;
14 he has a message for you that wil save you and your entire household."	14 il te donnera un message grâce auquel tu seras sauvé avec tous ceux de ta maison.
15 'I had scarcely begun to speak when the Holy Spirit came down on them in the same way as it cameon us at the beginning,	15 “Je commence à m’expliquer, et voici que le Saint Esprit tombe sur eux comme il avait fait pour nous au début.
16 and I remembered that the Lord had said, "John baptised with water, but you will be baptised with theHoly Spirit."	16 Je me suis alors rappelé la parole du Seigneur qui disait: Jean a baptisé dans l’eau, mais vous, vous serez baptisés dans l’Esprit Saint.
17 I realised then that God was giving them the identical gift he gave to us when we believed in the LordJesus Christ; and who was I to stand in God's way?'	17 Puisque Dieu leur avait accordé le même don qu’à nous quand nous avons cru au Seigneur Jésus Christ, pouvais-je moi m’opposer à Dieu?”
18 This account satisfied them, and they gave glory to God, saying, 'God has clearly granted to thegentiles too the repentance that leads to life.'	18 Avec ces explications ils se tranquillisèrent. Ils rendirent gloire à Dieu en disant: "Ainsi donc, Dieu donne aussi aux autres peuples la conversion qui mène à la vie!”
19 Those who had scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen travel ed as far asPhoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, but they proclaimed the message only to Jews.	19 Certains qui s’étaient dispersés à cause de la persécution, au moment de l’affaire d’Étienne, étaient allés jusqu’en Phénicie, à Chypre et à Antioche. Mais ils ne prêchaient la parole qu’aux Juifs.
20 Some of them, however, who came from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch where they startedpreaching also to the Greeks, proclaiming the good news of the Lord Jesus to them.	20 Quelques-uns cependant, des hommes de Chypre et de Cyrène qui étaient venus à Antioche, s’adressèrent également aux Grecs et leur donnèrent la bonne nouvelle du Seigneur Jésus.
21 The Lord helped them, and a great number believed and were converted to the Lord.	21 La main du Seigneur fut avec eux, et il y eut pas mal de monde pour croire et se tourner vers le Seigneur.
22 The news of them came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem and they sent Barnabas out toAntioch.	22 Ce qu’on en racontait arriva aux oreilles de l’Église qui était à Jérusalem et ils envoyèrent Barnabé jusqu’à Antioche.
23 There he was glad to see for himself that God had given grace, and he urged them all to remainfaithful to the Lord with heartfelt devotion;	23 Une fois sur place, il fut témoin de la grâce de Dieu. Il s’en réjouit et les invita à persévérer dans le Seigneur en y mettant tout leur cœur.
24 for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. And a large number of people werewon over to the Lord.	24 C’était un homme excellent, plein de foi et d’Esprit Saint. Finalement, bon nombre de personnes firent leur adhésion au Seigneur.
25 Barnabas then left for Tarsus to look for Saul,	25 Barnabé partit pour Tarse pour y chercher Saul.
26 and when he found him he brought him to Antioch. And it happened that they stayed together in thatchurch a whole year, instructing a large number of people. It was at Antioch that the disciples were first cal ed'Christians'.	26 Il le trouva et l’amena à Antioche. Là, durant une année entière, ils travaillèrent ensemble dans l’Église, instruisant beaucoup de monde. C’est à Antioche que les disciples reçurent pour la première fois le nom de Chrétiens.
27 While they were there some prophets came down to Antioch from Jerusalem,	27 À cette époque, des prophètes descendirent de Jérusalem à Antioche.
28 and one of them whose name was Agabus, seized by the Spirit, stood up and predicted that a severeand universal famine was going to happen. This in fact happened while Claudius was emperor.	28 L’un d’eux, qui s’appelait Agabus, se leva sous l’action de l’Esprit et fit comprendre qu’une grande famine allait affecter toute la terre habitée. Elle eut lieu sous l’empereur Claude.
29 The disciples decided to send relief, each to contribute what he could afford, to the brothers living inJudaea.	29 Chacun des disciples commença alors à mettre de côté, à la mesure de ses moyens, ce qu’il enverrait pour l’aide aux frères qui vivaient en Judée.
30 They did this and delivered their contributions to the elders through the agency of Barnabas and Saul.	30 Quand ce fut fait, on l’envoya aux Anciens, par l’intermédiaire de Barnabé et de Saul.
