John 16

NEW JERUSALEM	MODERN HEBREW BIBLE
1 I have told you al this so that you may not fal away.	1 את אלה דברתי אליכם למען לא תכשלו
2 They wil expel you from the synagogues, and indeed the time is coming when anyone who kills youwil think he is doing a holy service to God.	2 הנה ינדו אתכם ואף באה השעה אשר כל הרג אתכם ידמה להקריב עבודה לאלהים
3 They wil do these things because they have never known either the Father or me.	3 וכזאת יעשו לכם יען גם את אבי וגם אתי לא ידעו
4 But I have told you all this, so that when the time for it comes you may remember that I told you. I didnot tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you;	4 אבל הגדתי לכם את אלה למען אשר בבא השעה תזכרום כי אנכי אמרתי אליכם וכאלה לא אמרתי אליכם מראש כי הייתי עמכם
5 but now I am going to the one who sent me. Not one of you asks, 'Where are you going?'	5 ועתה הלך אנכי אל שלחי ולא ישאלני איש מכם אנה תלך
6 Yet you are sad at heart because I have told you this.	6 אך על דברי את אלה אליכם מלא לבבכם עצבת
7 Stil , I am telling you the truth: it is for your own good that I am going, because unless I go, theParaclete wil not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.	7 אולם האמת אגיד לכם כי לכתי אך טוב לכם כי אם לא אלך לא יבא אליכם הפרקליט ואם אלך אשלחהו אליכם
8 And when he comes, he wil show the world how wrong it was, about sin, and about who was in theright, and about judgement:	8 והיה בבאו יוכיח את העולם על דבר החטא והצדק והמשפט
9 about sin: in that they refuse to believe in me;	9 על החטא כי לא האמינו בי
10 about who was in the right: in that I am going to the Father and you will see me no more;	10 ועל הצדק כי אלך אל אבי ולא תוסיפו לראות אתי
11 about judgement: in that the prince of this world is already condemned.	11 ועל המשפט כי נדון שר העולם הזה
12 I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you to bear now.	12 עוד רבות לי להגיד לכם אך לא תוכלון שאת עתה
13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he wil not bespeaking of his own accord, but wil say only what he has been told; and he wil reveal to you the things to come.	13 ורוח האמת בבאו הוא ידריך אתכם אל כל האמת כי לא ידבר מעצמו כי אם אשר ישמע ידבר והאתיות יגיד לכם
14 He wil glorify me, since al he reveals to you wil be taken from what is mine.	14 הוא יפארני כי משלי יקח ויגיד לכם
15 Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: all he reveals to you wil be taken from what ismine.	15 כל אשר לאבי לי הוא על כן אמרתי כי משלי יקח ויגיד לכם
16 In a short time you will no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again.	16 הן מעט ולא תראוני ועוד מעט ותחזוני כי אני הלך אל אבי
17 Then some of his disciples said to one another, 'What does he mean, "In a short time you wil nolonger see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again," and, "I am going to the Father"?	17 ומקצת תלמידיו נדברו איש אל אחיו לאמר מה זה אמר אלינו הן מעט ולא תראוני ועוד מעט ותחזוני ואמרו אני הלך אל אבי
18 What is this "short time"? We don't know what he means.'	18 ויאמרו מה זה אשר אמר מעט לא ידענו מה דבר
19 Jesus knew that they wanted to question him, so he said, 'You are asking one another what I meantby saying, "In a short time you wil no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again."	19 וידע ישוע כי עם לבבם לשאל אתו ויאמר אליהם העל זאת אתם דרשים ביניכם כי אמרתי הן מעט ולא תראוני ועוד מעט ותחזוני
20 'In al truth I tell you, you wil be weeping and wailing while the world wil rejoice; you will be sorrowful,but your sorrow wil turn to joy.	20 אמן אמן אני אמר לכם כי אתם תבכו ותילילו והעולם ישמח הן אתם תעצבו אכן עצבכם יהפך לששון
21 A woman in childbirth suffers, because her time has come; but when she has given birth to the childshe forgets the suffering in her joy that a human being has been born into the world.	21 האשה בלדתה עצב לה כי באה עתה ואחרי ילדה את הילד לא תזכר עוד את עצבונה משמחתה כי אדם נולד לעולם
22 So it is with you: you are sad now, but I shal see you again, and your hearts wil be ful of joy, andthat joy no one shal take from you.	22 וגם אתם כעת תתעצבו אך אשוב אראה אתכם ושש לבכם ואין לקח שמחתכם מכם
23 When that day comes, you will not ask me any questions. In all truth I tel you, anything you ask fromthe Father he wil grant in my name.	23 וביום ההוא לא תשאלוני דבר אמן אמן אני אמר לכם כי כל אשר תשאלו מאת אבי בשמי יתננו לכם
24 Until now you have not asked anything in my name. Ask and you wil receive, and so your joy wil becomplete.	24 עד עתה לא שאלתם דבר בשמי שאלו ותקחו למען תמלא שמחתכם
25 I have been tel ing you these things in veiled language. The hour is coming when I shall no longerspeak to you in veiled language but tell you about the Father in plain words.	25 את אלה דברתי אליכם במשלים אכן שעה באה ולא אדבר עוד אליכם במשלים כי אם ברור אמלל לכם על אבי
26 When that day comes you wil ask in my name; and I do not say that I shal pray to the Father for you,	26 ביום ההוא תשאלו בשמי ואינני אמר לכם כי אני אעתיר לאבי בעדכם
27 because the Father himself loves you for loving me, and believing that I came from God.	27 כי אבי גם הוא אהב אתכם עקב אשר אהבתוני והאמנתם כי מאת אלהים יצאתי
28 I came from the Father and have come into the world and now I am leaving the world to go to theFather.'	28 מאת האב יצאתי ואבא לעולם אשובה אעזב את העולם ואלך אל אבי
29 His disciples said, 'Now you are speaking plainly and not using veiled language.	29 ויאמרו אליו תלמידיו הנה כעת ברור תמלל ולא תמשל משל
30 Now we see that you know everything and need not wait for questions to be put into words; becauseof this we believe that you came from God.'	30 עתה ידענו כי כל ידעת ולא תצטרך כי ישאלך איש בזאת נאמין כי מאת אלהים יצאת
31 Jesus answered them: Do you believe at last?	31 ויען אתם ישוע עתה תאמינו
32 Listen; the time wil come -- indeed it has come already -- when you are going to be scattered, eachgoing his own way and leaving me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.	32 הנה שעה באה ועתה זה הגיעה ונפצותם איש איש לביתו ואתי תעזבו לבדי ואינני לבדי כי אבי עמדי
33 I have told you al this so that you may find peace in me. In the world you wil have hardship, but becourageous: I have conquered the world.	33 את אלה דברתי אליכם למען בי יהיה לכם שלום בעולם יהיה לכם עני אך יאמץ לבבכם אני נצחתי את העולם
